The Amazing Race 7...official Thread

For me it was obvious and predictable that Gretchen and Meredith were going to be eliminated.

I agree withPuffkin comment about Chip and Kim. I remember them well from two episodes ago and I remember Chip was ALWAYS doing the roadblocks and detours, etc. I remember saying "again?????, Chip's doing it"

I'm routing for Rob and Amber or Uchenna and ___________ sorry???. ANd I consider myself the biggest fan of AR. Shame on me for not remembering her name!!

Oh yeah, Kris & John did deserve to win it! They played the game wonderfully, they didn't play dirty (like some nameless people :)) they treated each other respectfully & treated the locals with respect. They were probably one of the best teams Amazing Race has had.

Can anyone tell me what happened in the first 30 minutes. I missed it. Re-cap, anyone?

::yes::

On a side note - G & M live in the same development as my grandparents! They live in The Villages, FL - about an hour north of WDW. Apparently, G & M had viewing parties every Tuesday night at one of the club houses. We were visiting my grandparents recently and G & M were all over The Villages newspaper.

Yes, G's whining really was awful - but I give them tons of credit for getting as far as they did.

Oh that's very cool! We sometimes drive through the Villages on the way to WDW when I'm riding with my mom and she doesn't feel like getting on the interstate. :teeth:

My hubby says he can't wait until he's 55 so we can move there too! It is very nice, and I would like to move there one day - but let's not rush things! :rotfl:

Next week will be exciting with 3 good races left. Glad that Meredith and Grethen are not in the final 3, they just are not good racers. With this final three it will be a race to the finish line.

They were better than 7 other teams ;)

for a Recap of last night first half....

The teams left the pit stop and had to go to a nearby train station for their next clue and walk through some people in religious garb who were twirling around in some type of religious ritual. J/U left first at 10:45 p.m. approximately. G/M were about an hour later (they lost a LOT of time last week) and R/A were 45 minutes after them. R/K brought up the rear about 10 minutes behind R/A.

The clue told them to go to London. All teams caught up at the airport since the flights didn't leave until the morning. J/U booked a direct flight on Turkish Air to London. G/M booked the same flight. It is not clear if they looked for a faster flight with connections. They did show J/U talking and he wanted to check connecting flights but she said that was too risky, that direct was their best bet. So, I don't know if they knew about the faster flight or not. They didn't show G/M even trying to find a faster flight.

R/A used the Internet and found a faster flight connecting in Frankfurt. They then purchased tickets on the direct flight to try and fool R/K. However, Kelly saw the flight on the departures board and they were able to arrange to get on that flight. It was risky though because both teams were put on standby for the left from Frankfurt to London.

In Frankfurt, it was a foot race to the counter to get to the top of the standby list. R/A won and got there first on easily got on the flight. R/K were also able to get on the flight through standby, so the gamble paid off. They got to London about two hours before the other two teams on the direct flight.

R/A met a guy in the airport and he offered to help them out. He was very good at the train system, and seemed to know London very well. All the other teams took taxis, but the train appeared to be much faster (though confusing).

I think that was all in the first hour, I hope I didn't miss anything....

It's not that they won already before that makes me believe they shouldn't be in this competition. It's that they have been given international exposure through their two previous appearances on Survivor that have given them an advantage. They've received help thaat other teams did not, because people recognized them.

Are you the one that is kidding? Do you truly believe that the check she got from Survivor was a full million dollars? They do take out the federal portion of taxes before they even get the check, so the check she received was probably around $700,000. Far from being a millionaire. .

Yep. I read that Rupert had to pay 520,000 in federal taxes! Then state taxes on top of that, a far cry from a true million that's for sure.

Bet they had a great time last week watching Rob run his mouth about what idiots they are, "the blind leading the blind."

They received help that other teams did not because they asked for help when others didn't. True, a few individuals knew them by name, but they didn't provide any more assistance than another team would have gotten themselves. In fact, at the hospital in South Africa (I believe it was there - correct me if I'm wrong) Amber mentioned their "fame" was holding them back at times. Didn't several people in India come up to Meredith and Gretchen asking for autographs? I don't remember Rob & Amber getting that treatment. It's not just Survivor, it's the TV cameras currently following them around, the way they draw the locals into conversations, and shrewd game play.

Thanks Puffkin-I'm glad our dentist is open late on Tuesday's, but I keep forgetting AR is on. I got home when they were taking boats out of the water. Thanks.

Disagree!
Lying & being sneaky is not the only way to win a reality contest. Look at Chip & Kim a few seasons back. I don't recall them EVER being sneaky like Snob...I mean, Rob has!!!

I guess you are conveniently forgetting that Chip and Kim yeilded Colin and Christy. But I guess that is okay because Colin was such a jerk too.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Chip and he was awesome but they only won because Chip did EVERY Roadblock but one. Im sure Kim helped with logistics and reading maps but when it came to hard stuff she wouldn't even consider doing it. They would not win the Amazing Race with the new rules no matter how nice they are.

I don't see how you can say that Rob is being sneaky. Should they share all the information they get from being friendly and talking to locals? Should they share the information they get from actually **Gasp** researching things? I guess we need to rename the show to the Amazing Love Fest next season.

I am interested to see how this season influences the way the game is played next season. I bet all the people will be asking locals for help unless they change the rules somehow. I think R & A are playing a wonderful game. I like U & J too, just don't want to see R & K win.

I don't have a problem with Rob and Amber asking for the locals help. I don't have a problem with a local staying with the them the whole day. On the contrary, I think that's all great strategy. It makes for really fun and interesting viewing. Shame on the other racers for not thinking of that. What I don't care for is Rob's "don't open the back door", "don't let anyone else use the computer", "don't talk to anyone else". I think that's sneaky and/or snarky. I wouldn't care for anyone who did that, regardless of who they were or what other reality show they were on.

This is the first season that I've watched all the way through. So, no other teams have used local help like Romber? I wonder why.

People have used locals in the past. I am surprised it isn't used more often.

Didja notice how for all her whining Gretchen was by far the stronger member of the G&M team? You didn't see Meredith do the climbing/rapelling in the last episode - and if he could just drive the dadburn bus they'd still be in it. Actually, if he hadn't given Kelly money they'd probably still be in the race (and didja notice how Gretchen wasn't in the frame when he gave them the money? I wonder if she knew - oh to be a fly in the wall in their family room when she watches the tape of that scene!).

One other note - Amber was right in wanting to yield U&J - Rob's ego took the better of them (at that point R&K were shoo-ins for making it to the next round baring a total collapse) and instead of getting rid of a powerful team he basically ensured that the weakest team (G&M) would be eliminated.

Cool show! Stroke of genious to cast R&A - wonder what their appearance fee was? Can't wait for the wedding, and the inevitable 9 month reality show "We're Pregnant!" - now there's a true "The Truman Show" waiting to happen, as their child is raised as the star of an ongoing series of reality shows.
