THE AMAZING RACE #19 official thread. No Spoilers!! Premieres Sept. 25

The twins really had trouble with setting up the beach chairs/tents. I think their umbrella's kept falling down and they couldn't get them in the ground. They did get nice advice, the NFL player told them to turn the umbrella's to get them in and the older lady told them to dig with a sea shell.

Was this the area Leo DeCaprio (sp?) was in a movie called "Beaches" where he got in mixed up in the drug trade?

You could tell pretty quickly. It wasn't that dramatic to the end, and when they stepped on the mat, he asked them about the race before telling them they were eliminated.

What's interesting is that they apparently don't have any money on the next leg...according to the preview. I'm wondering if it's because it showed they have Indonesian money and forgot to exchange it? Otherwise I can't figure it out...

I can't figure out why they didn't exchange their currency when the other teams did. I think it will really bite them in the butt next week. I was actually expecting them to get a penalty for not paying their cabbie. I loved his eye roll when they said he gave them a ride for free.

I mentioned to DH that I really like how the teams this season are willing to help and at least encourage each other. Of course the cut throat back stabbing teams are probably better for ratings.

Loving the snowboarders and the football player and his wife. Actually like all of them but the cranky whiny brother sister team.

Still not sure about the mat thing? I was looking and some sort of stepped on the edge but nothing like we have seen in previous seasons. Maybe Phil got tired of having the stinky, sweaty, mucked up contestants that close to him!

I don't mind if teams "cheat" b giving each other the answers. They tend to team up for a while and it is interesting to me to see how each team partners together. There is always a team who rationalizes why they don't need to share ;) I thought the the football player really dropped the ball when he was given the answers to a challenge and could not focus enough to listen.
I only mind when someone gives an answer to a team I don't like. It's perfectly acceptable when a team I like gets assistance. :rotfl2:

::yes:: Not smart not to exchange their money at the airport.

We were joking that maybe they've been hit with budget cuts and are trying to avoid wear and tear on the mat. ;)

THIS gets my vote as well! Phil tired of all those sweaty smelly people hugging him.

Don't they exchange in the airport? Perhaps they were in so much of a rush that they figured it might be okay or they simply forgot. (I always wondered how they always seem to have the correct currency.)

I assume they usually exchange at one of the airports. For goodness sakes! They were in THREE of them that trip ... one of them was convenient for all the other teams.

Oh--I wasn't saying they wouldn't be convenient...I'm just trying to think of why they wouldn't use it. What I posted was the best I could come up with.

I have to say that Andy and Tommy have plummeted in my personal standings from my favorites to last place due to their religious intolerance :sad2:. I found it shocking that they were really so narrow minded since they seemed so open to new places and adventures.

What did I miss? I thought they just talked about their own religious feelings...but I have to admit I was dozing here and there. I thought they said something about respecting the people religion where they were. These are the snowboarders, right? I don't remember anything that seemed narrow minded.

That is what I thought.

I don't recall anything either. Plus they weren't the only team to say anything. It can be difficult for persons of one faith to have to immerse themselves in another. I didn't see them do anything that made them seem intolerant. And could it be that the production people actually ask them questions to provide a needed soundbite? (hence all the pre-task commentary about their faith.)

And for ma and pa--seems they area competitive team afterall.:rotfl: The other team was funny when they said "don't let them fool you...they can run" Or something like that.

No, another team talked about respecting other religions. The snowboarders said (and I am paraphrasing here) it was "hard" going to so many Buddhist Temples when they were Christian and that all you had to do is read the bible and you would know "the truth". That is not respectful at all.

ETA: I'll pull the direct quotes out of the DVR tomorrow. I replayed it a couple times because I was too shocked by what they said and my impression remained the same.

I was also surprised at what I heard, but didn't hear it too well, so I was thinking the same thing -- check the DVR tomorrow. I hope that it was aired out of context because I don't want to not like them anymore. :rotfl: (of course we will never know what questions may have been asked to get those responses and what other comments, if any, were left out.)

Oh, and I loved how excited the twins were washing the elephants and scooping the poop. :happytv: I didn't really like them so much before, but did tonight. I was glad they got to stick around for one more leg, that they enjoyed so much.

Me too! They seemed so positive and loving the whole experience. I'm glad they were able to find some cab drivers to give them free rides.

I'd be interested in knowing just what they said, because I thought I was listening at that time and I just didn't get that they were disrespectful. I'd have to know what came before and after as well. Although even if they said it just as you have it, if that's what they believe then that's what they believe. I don't get the disrespectful part, if they were just saying how they believe. Maybe they were asked a leading question. It wouldn't make me not like them.

To me, it sounds like they were asked a question and then answered.

"So--how does this make you feel to go to all these temples?"

Tolerance works both ways. Not cheering for them because they expressed one or two sentences in a situation where we do not know the full context--well whatever floats ones boat. I try to look past all that nonsense. People have their beliefs, it doesn't make them bad people or less worthy of a win, IMHO. (And there have been teams who had something going on that *I* wasn't "approving" of, and yet, I could still cheer for them.)

And as stated--another team member said something as well. She "respected" the temple, but you could interpret that she doesn't "Believe" in it. So in that way, she is no different from the guys--who did show the temple respect, except for remembering how items were placed. They did treat it with respect during transport. Now if they trashed it or were careless--that would, to me, be a sign that they were being disrespectful. Expressing a belief (that you may or may not believe) is not disrespectful.

I didn't find what they said to be disrespectful either. That is what they believe, and I took it as them just stating their beliefs. Of course, if one disagrees with them, it may be impossible for the snowboarders to express those opinions in a way that would not offend. Regardless, I knew there would be those here that would no longer be rooting for them because it has happened everytime someone mentions their Christian faith.

I thought that the sister of the brother/sister team mentioned something about her religion as well. Like the snowboarders, what I heard wasn't offensive but I could have missed something :confused3 (wouldn't be the first time!)

I just watched my DVR and wrote down what the teams said. It's clear that Tommy and Andy and Jennifer and Justin were asked the same question off camera.

Tommy and Andy

Tommy: Andy and I are both Christians and it's been interesting with the Buddhist temples and these tasks, but God is definitely greater than any temple.

Andy: I don't feel weird vibes coming here. We have the one true God and it's pretty straight forward if you read the bible.

Jennifer and Justin

Jennifer: Doing this, while it may not be the same religion as mine, still warrants the same amount of respect. I wouldn't want someone coming into my church and disrespecting my crosses or anything like that.

The responses are MUCH different. Tommy said that his god is greater than Buddha right in front of the Buddhist judge and Andy sat on someone else's holy ground and dismissed all other religions. How is that respectful? Jennifer had it right: do unto others. Treat other religions with respect as you would want other people to respect your religion.
