THE AMAZING RACE #19 official thread. No Spoilers!! Premieres Sept. 25

So don't you think it would have been featured more if they were like the people you know? Wouldn't it make the editing really choppy if they did it constantly? Not even so much as a Thank you to the skies above for the prizes they have won thus far.

I too know similar people. Perhaps not to the extreme as you describe. But when something significant were to happen...not a millisecond would elapse before they would being praising with gratitude.

I think it came up--it was featured and we have now had a few episodes in between and then this occurred. It did seem like the guy was mega-jealous and struggled knowing that it was irrational to be THAT jealous. KWIM? Ever have one of those moments you would smack yourself for thinking something but couldn't stop thinking about it? So instead of smacking himself...he did what he did.

Anyway--that is my theory.

Your story reminds me of an episode of toddlers and tiaras...a very devout step-mom prayed about putting her step-daughter in pageants. And they were VERY devout and don't do things like Halloween...so she puts her in a Halloween pageant. Anyway--so I can see what you mean. But I think it would have been difficult to edit that episode and omit references.

So if the snowboarders wore it on their sleeve so to speak to that extreme, I feel we would have heard far more mentions than the 2 episodes where it was a small incidental portion of the entire episode.
As an atheist, I am pretty sensitive about people who wear their religion on their sleeve. The snowboarders have talked about their religion more than just a few minutes in those two episodes. They have been "praising" their way through the entire season. I am sure that someone who is more religious wouldn't notice their ongoing religiousness, but I did. Frankly, they lost me as a fan when they said their god was better than everyone else's god a few weeks ago. Their latest "jealousy in my heart" comments just made me roll my eyes. That being said, if praying for forgiveness for jealousy gets you a brand-new custom Mustang, I must be doing something wrong :rotfl:.

You would have loved that Toddlers and Tiaras episode, then.;)

It does seem you are hypersensitive given past comments you have made. You are now looking for them to say anything and it sets off your radar. I honestly don't get that. You come across as pretty dang tolerant...EXCEPT for this. So of course you will notice ANY mention as excessive and over the top. So much for live and let live.

I didn't say that they were excessive or over the top with their religion except the two episodes where it was front and center. They were more "everyday" religious in the other episodes. I noticed it, made note of it but it didn't bother me. I was perfectly 100% fine with them (they were my favorite team!) until the "my god is better than your god" episode.

Oh dear me - that's hysterical!! :rotfl:

"Reality" shows featuring the very devoutly religious always crack me up though, just in principal. :happytv: Survivor is a great one for that. Last season, it was Matt, sitting on Redemption Island praying everyday because he felt it was God's will that he win his challenges and continue on in the game, so as to minister to the other players by example... :confused3 (Let me cream you in challenges so I can show you what a kind, loving person I am?)

This season it has been Brandon Hantz, who prays all the time that he not be tempted from his marriage vows by women walking around the island in bathing suits. (Mikayla is evil, she is a temptress, because she is good looking...??)

What was it? Don't know if I noticed and didn't pay attention or I missed it completely?

It came from Bad Boys. Will Smiths yells at Martin Lawrence "Now that's how you s'pose to drive. From now on, that's how you drive!"

this has always cracked me up too... I mean I'm not the most religious person but why would God care how well you did in the race... its a GAME. Now praying that no one is injured, that your all safe, etc. I can understand but to do well in the game? And why would God help you more then the other person that may also be of your faith...

Yeah I don't get it.

Sorry, I can't get excited about the snowboarders and their religious talk. I'm not religious at all, but know many people who are sustained by their faith. If it gives them strength and comfort, who am I to argue?

In this case, the one guy had envy in his heart--one of the seven deadly sins. Prayer helped him release this, which made him feel better. In general, I think the snowboarders have been extremely kind to other teams, helping out and encouraging them. Whether it's being a Good Samaritan or encouraging good karma--who cares?

Looking at how this episode was edited, I have to think that Cathi and Bill were way back. It didn't seem like they were ever really close to competitive.

I'm hoping Marcus and Amani win. They seem like such a nice couple--a true team in life. I love the fact that she's not the classic "trophy wife", and they hope to inspire their children.

I agree with the bolded the only time they were discouraging was the bit of heckling with Marcus, which was all in good fun. (I did like the whole "yeah but we LIKE water" bit with the rafts)

AS for Bill and Cathi being way behind... I'm not sure, because they were in the water for the detour before the team with Sandy and some guy I don't know the name of finished.

I would like to know when they did fall way behind, because they weren't that far back when it came to the detour. Marcus and Amani were still there when Bill and Cathi got there. Jeremy and Sandy were still at their waffle station, when they saw Bill and Cathi on the water doing the detour. The only thing I can figure, is that Bill and Cathi really got lost doing the pigeon challenge and that is what put them so far behind.

I have a feeling Bill and Cathi might have had to do a speedbump that was edited out. Since the first place team got a prize even though it was a continuous leg, it makes sense that the last place team would have to do a speedbump. Since it didn't affect the outcome, they wouldn't necessarily show it in favor of showing something more interesting.

That was my thought as well but if not I think it was with the pigeon portion. You could see how dark it got during their hunt for the address which might have been because of a roadblock or just getting lost.

They used to have video blogs of the eliminated teams. If they still have those it might explain it.

If I was the ones that were last tonight and just watched tonight I would be mad. Those other two teams were going to the wrong place just like they did but the taxi drivers just took them to to take them to the right place.

Sure they could have still come in last because we don't know how long it took them to get back and figure it out but the way they showed it I think they could have made it back at least before one of the teams.

Not sure who I want to win now.

That was a surprise ending! I got confused at the end over who got where, how. And I can blame it on my old eyes ;), but I had to see that last clue about six times - and finally in the close-up - before I realized what it was. Notice that all four teams misinterpreted where/what the clue was, as well as what it meant.

Come to think of it, how DID the taxi drivers figure out where to go, when the racers couldn't?

OK, now I REALLY don't care who wins...all my favorites are gone!
DH, who rarely watches any of the AR episodes, was FURIOUS that the cab drivers cost the snowboarders a chance at winning. They were my faves too, but I have watched AR enough to have seen similar happenings too many times.

Jeremy & Sandy(?) figured it out. They drew the picture and their cabbie recognized it.

I am very pleased with tonight's episode. My favorite team remains (Armani and Marcus) and my least favorite team is gone :thumbsup2. Unfortunately, I will probably miss the finale. We'll be in Milwaukee that day for a swim meet and I don't think we'll get back in time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a football game will delay things :wizard:. Speaking of which ... why couldn't it start late tonight?!? I was watching the Packer's game and still had to run out for dinner. We had spinach empinadas, baked platains and coconut ride with pigeon peas.

I imagine the Amazing Race people are going to get a lot of mail and email about this one. Jeremy and Sandy drew a picture, so their cab driver was able to identify it, so they should have come in first place. But then two teams were going to try the "Balboa" idea like the snowboarders did, and they obviously has no idea where they were going, other than their cab drivers took them their. That, to me, is similar to teams who, in past episodes, ended up at the pit stop but skipped a step, so Phil would send them back. I don't really dislike any of the teams, so I'd be equally satisfied with whoever makes it into the top 3 and who wins, but I think that the teams should have solved the clue on their own to have it count. I probably would be less bothered by it if Jeremy and Sandy figured it out and then told the other teams the answer, as that has happened in the past with teams, too, so that they could eliminate a stronger team, but this was totally weird -- the cab drivers telling each other and the teams completely oblivious. I hope that the snowboarders are invited back for a future race.

I agree with this. :thumbsup2
