THE AMAZING RACE #19 official thread. No Spoilers!! Premieres Sept. 25

I would think there should be some kind of penalty involved for taking the train without the tickets.

There might be, we don't know yet since we they haven't checked in.

They might also let it slide because they did buy the tickets, they were just stupid and lost them... I also don't understand why it appeared that they didn't just retrace their steps. When I lose something that's the first thing I do.

I love Amani & Marcus. They're just fantastic. Never negative, encouraging each other...I also love how competitive he gets. Which makes sense since he's a former NFL player, but he's not negative about it.

::yes:: I was disappointed that they didn't win something for coming in first. (or did I miss it :confused3) I was so excited to see them get to the mat first!

They did win something. A trip, but I cannot remember to where.

Did anyone else find it just a little bit "off" that a conductor *never* asked to see tickets during the second leg of the train journey, when Ernie and Cindy were technically "stowaways"?

We wondered if the producers might have worked a little behind-the-scenes mojo to keep things on track. Having one of the teams stranded THAT far behind the rest of the production crew - a whole country away - with no money to get another ticket and no other way to get there, might have presented some problems.

Maybe the camera crew that panned in on the dropped tickets picked them up, and the show producers presented them to the crew on the train and asked them to leave the racers alone? Maybe, after the interview that was given on the train where Ernie and Cindy were so worried, they actually DID come around asking for tickets and at that point the producers gave them to them and just didn't show that part on camera?? :confused3

No, I don't. I take a train quite a bit. Often, the conductor never makes it to us.

Twice someone has lost a passport and the crew has zoomed in on it, yet they never touched it. Once in Russia the team had to go to the Embassy to get it straightened out. This season, someone found it at the gas station (in LA) and took it to the airport after "tweeting".

I think they just got very lucky.

In Germany train tickets are sold on an "honor" system. Ticket checks are random and often do not happen at all. Riding a train without a ticket is known as riding "schwarz" (black). If you are caught, you are fined and tossed off the train. Amazingly, the system works very well and most people purchase tickets.

Wow gotta say that body building stuff was off the charts. I know that I never could have done that challenge and was surprised that they were made to do it. I really feel they could have come up with something else. They all looked pretty good in their bikinis but I feel that the judges were really hard on them.

What a bummer!! I would have liked to see Bill and Cathi stay. Just great racers!!

Loved the mustang challenge. And winning not only a mustang, but one that you can customize to your tastes - how sweet is that!!!

Did anybody else catch Marcus's movie quote, when he got back to Amani? I love the movie and the actor, so I caught it really quickly. DH didn't catch it the first time, but when I rewound it he did.

We found it kinda funny, that last week Marcus and Amani won a trip to Panama and next week that is where they travel to. After living in Panama with the military, DH and I can't wait to see where all they send them. DS16 said he will be watching, he normally doesn't. He was born down there and any time TAR or Survivor has anything to do with Panama, he watches.

The commuter train from Gilroy to San Francisco is also like this. It is the honor system and I have ridden it up and back several times and never had a conductor ask for my ticket.

What was it? Don't know if I noticed and didn't pay attention or I missed it completely?

Sorry to see Cathi & Bill go. But they put up a good race!

Love Amani & Marcus - I hope they avoid being eliminated this next leg. I like the sno-boarders, but their God-talk is getting a little annoying - they are going to be the team to beat to the finish line.

Any of the remaining teams deserve to win and I'm fine with any of them. They're a nice group - wishing each other luck: good karma!

I was also very sorry to see Bill and Cathi go - I would have liked to see them in the finals. I think they, and Marcus and Amani, were my favorite teams. Now I will have to root for Marcus and Amani.

I still can't stand Ernie and Cindy, and the other team - Jeremy and what's her-name. Both of those teams really get on my nerves.

And the snow-boarders - good grief. When they were in the car after the Mustang challenge, and the one fellow said he was jealous of his friend (what guy wouldn't be??) because he got to drive the Mustang, but then he "prayed about it and the evil sin was taken from his heart" - I wasn't sure if I was going to laugh hysterically or throw my coffee cup at the TV. I really hope they don't win.

New Jersey Transit from Secaucus to New York Penn Station is like that too, only not on purpose. Only because it's too darn packed to allow the conductor to walk through :lmao:

Did you notice that the one said he had sin in his heart (from being jealous of the other one getting to "ride the ponies"), but prayed about it and was able to get over it? Well that camera interview was AFTER he had won a mustang himself -- yeah, pretty easy to get over it at that point! :lmao: Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's roadblock challenge . . .

I am a Christian as well, but I and most religious people I know do not feel the need to bring up topics like the sin in our hearts. I know some people do, but I tend to think the cameraman is asking very pointed questions, specifically to get these quotes out of them. Doesn't seem natural for the snowboarders to just start telling the camera about it.

:lmao: Oh, tag fairy!!

::yes::

Remember, they shoot hours and hours of film. The contestents don't know what will be aired and what will end up on the cutting room floor.

Well, I have to correct you here.

He was indeed talking about the issue while they were going from the mustang task to the next task.

The interviews have producers asking them about various things that occurred during that particular leg of the race. There is no way for certain that you discern that he wasn't already over it. Since we don't hear the full interview including the questions asked/prompts use to get the contestants to talk about whatever it is the producers wish to talk about, you can't rule it out.

Though your last sentence makes me giggle.:lmao:

I do agree with you that the producers/interviewers/camera-people ask very pointed questions and lead them from topic to topic; and that a lot of the footage gets left on the cutting-room floor. I also agree that many, even most, Christian people do not feel the need to randomly start blurting out Testimonials in Taxi-cabs. ;)

However, I have known several, in my own personal life, that do. One of the ladies I work with is obsessive about praying about everything. She is incapable of making a decision, even down to what outfit to choose for an event, without praying about it. Ask her out to lunch? She'll pray about it and get back to you. And she ALWAYS shares what she considers the answers/resolutions to her prayers with EVERYONE.

My best friend's ex-boss used to walk around the office sprinkling the desks and the houseplants with Holy Water to keep the office blessed and peaceful.

So, maybe the snow-boarders wouldn't have randomly said that, but then again maybe they would have...

So don't you think it would have been featured more if they were like the people you know? Wouldn't it make the editing really choppy if they did it constantly? Not even so much as a Thank you to the skies above for the prizes they have won thus far.

I too know similar people. Perhaps not to the extreme as you describe. But when something significant were to happen...not a millisecond would elapse before they would being praising with gratitude.

I think it came up--it was featured and we have now had a few episodes in between and then this occurred. It did seem like the guy was mega-jealous and struggled knowing that it was irrational to be THAT jealous. KWIM? Ever have one of those moments you would smack yourself for thinking something but couldn't stop thinking about it? So instead of smacking himself...he did what he did.

Anyway--that is my theory.

Your story reminds me of an episode of toddlers and tiaras...a very devout step-mom prayed about putting her step-daughter in pageants. And they were VERY devout and don't do things like Halloween...so she puts her in a Halloween pageant. Anyway--so I can see what you mean. But I think it would have been difficult to edit that episode and omit references.

So if the snowboarders wore it on their sleeve so to speak to that extreme, I feel we would have heard far more mentions than the 2 episodes where it was a small incidental portion of the entire episode.
