THE AMAZING RACE 15, Season Starts 09/27/09

Okay--on my soapbox....

Mika's butt did not belong on that show AT ALL!!!!!!!

The darling diva knew what her phobia was before she applied and then accepted a slot on the show. Does she not watch any AR as part of her research? Who the heck has a phobia so debilitating as to reduce them to a toddler temper tantrum, voluntarily submits themselves to a show that will involve WATER and something that involves HEIGHTS.

I mean--are you kidding me????????

We've had people who have not been able to swim and who have had swimming phobias and they made it through.

And little Miss Mika proceed to through the biggest temper tantrum about this task.

Good riddance Mika! You took that slot from someone else and you had no business being on that show!!!!!

Off soapbox!:goodvibes

I do feel the globetrotters were a bit slimy for what they did, but I seriously doubt precious Mika had any intentions of going down that slide. They just bought a few extra seconds.

Kudos for what's his name and his Christian forgiveness--but I was cheering him on when he ditched her and went down the slide.:cheer2:

And yes--I have my phobias, this is why I don't get tattoos and I do not bungee jump. I don't like it, so I avoid anything where that would be a possibility.

I was very glad also to see the Globe Trotters still in the race. It was irritating that in the previous episode they had been nothing but nice and helpful to all of these teams and not one of them helped them at the suitcase stop.

I thought the Globe Trotter would of heard the other teams say the time and then opened the briefcase. Plus, the Globe Trotters lost a lot of time, when the cab driver took them to the wrong palace.

Water slide-some of the teams flew down the slide and went underwater. The couple Miss America/and her husband, they sat up at the end of the slide and didn't even go underwater. My dd does this somehow, and just gently plops in the water. Me-I come full bore down water slides, do few tumbles under the water, usually I end up with a nose full and totally disoriented. This was my last experience with the water slide at the Beach Club.

And about pushing her on the slide.... I would be okay if my dh did that now because he knows me and my limitations. He knows when to push and when to lay off, and I trust him. At 3 months or so into our relationship, it would not have set well -- not even for a million dollars.

I don't think Mika ever got into a good position to be nudged down the slide and I am almost positive that the lifeguard was probably placing some rules on them.

If she launched incorrectly, she could get very injured.

Otherwise, I'm sure he would have pushed her sooner. I think the lifeguard was watching him like a hawk.

I couldn't have done that water slide. I've been to the top of Summit Plummet and I couldn't go down. Million dollars or not, I couldn't have done that slide.

Now, having said that, I wouldn't have been wearing floaties, nor would I have carried on so much. I'd have told my partner, "sorry, this is where I draw the line."

That, my friends, is why I will never apply to be on TAR. I know my limitations... no big water slides, no bungee jumping, no scaling down buildings, no jumping out of planes.... etc. For me, it's about control. I wouldn't feel that I'd have any control of those situations.

This is me. No way I could have done this but I would never put myself in the position to either do it or cost my partner a chance at winning. With that said, if I had reached a point where I was unable to complete a challenge and my partner tried to bully me into it the money would be my last consideration. Did these two not discuss how they would treat each other if there was a challenge that was too terrifying for one of them to complete? At some point in their short relationship the subject of fears had to come up if they agreed to TAR. I think that she was a whiney but I think he was a nasty bully.

I was so glad the Trotters stayed in. As far as I am concerned they should not help anyone else in this race. How hard would it have been to at least give them a hint on the watch challenge. They have displayed good sportsmanship throughout the race and their teasing was just that, teasing an opponent. Good for them!

Probably, the editing made it look like, he was just trying to get her to sit down. But when he grabbed her, it looked like he was going to throw her down the slide, but she turned away. She should have put her hands over her eyes and went. Plus Phil wanted us to think that they went in a shark tank:rotfl: and came out the other end. Didn't someone say something about sharks being in the pool at the end of the slide.

I do not like water slides, whenever we go to waterpark I try not to go but at the amazing race you bet I would. That girls was so annoying, she did not belong in the show, I felt bad for her boyfriend.

As I was watching tonight, I thought it would be a good idea to put a clock of sorts on the screen for the teams. It is easier to see how much time a team makes up or loses when there are other teams there, but what about when there aren't?

I mean just how long were Mika and Canaan up there before the Globetrotters got up there? If they had just skipped it and gone to the pit stop, what kind of penalty would they have gotten? Would it be a 30 minute penalty or a 2 hour one?

Personally, I think not going down that slide will end up being one of her big regrets in life. Not so much because of the money or Canaan, but that she let it defeat her.

There was one episode with a mother and daughter--maybe the first season with Team Guido--they did not complete a task and the penalty was much greater than 2 hours.

I remember that Team Guido had the fast forward--but for some reason, they did not get to the pit stop first and were greatly delayed.

But b/c the girls could not finish their task (whatever it was)--they got an insanely long penalty and that is what saved Team Guido. However, too little too late--they were in the top 3, but they never got to finish the race. It was over and they had just gotten to Alaska.

I know the season with Rob and Amber--they had the alternative to take a 2 hour penalty when they didnt' complete the task--but that was done on the spot.

I think they made the penalty less harsh than they did in the beginning.

I'm firmly in the camp of, "Mika is a big, fat whiner!" I'm petrified of heights, myself--I can totally relate to that. Honestly. But, you don't see me applying for AR. If DH wanted to do it, I'd tell him to go with someone who didn't have so many phobias. And if, for whatever reason, we were in a position where our futures depended on me (bungee jumping, parachuting, pick your poison), he already knows, he would have full carte blanche to push my butt to get me out/down. Actually, I'd prefer if he knocked me unconscious!

Glad the Trotters are still in. I like them a lot, they seem to have such a good attitude. And if nothing else, they're enjoying the journey.

Wouldn't the floaties have made the ride down worse if they had hit the bottom of the slide, I would think it would make her stutter on the way down.

You cross your arms when going down--while they would have made it difficult, they wouldn't have hit the bottom of the slide.

I was soooooo hapy the globetrotters are still in it!!!! I love them!!!

I was laughing when Big Easy was like, "come on baby, don't do it if your scared, you can walk right down the stairs instead." Then the look on Mika's face was like he just took a lollipop away from a five year old!!!

There was NO WAY she was going to go down wheather Big Easy teased her or not.

I was happy though that Canaan forgave her, otherwise it would be a very uncomfortable trip home.

I could just see her arms start flailing in panic though.

For those who missed it, here's the youtube clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc50WRUNkTE

I'm so happy the GT's are still in the game. I dont blame them one bit for getting in her head. Its a game, its a million dollars, I would have done the same thing. Mika had no reason being on the show anyway with her phobias. Canaan was a jerk for trying to force her down the slide, then ditching her afterwards.

I can't blame Canaan for taking the slide down. Everyone was saying how hot it was. That was his way to cool off instead of sweating more on the steps.

He was a jerk????

She's there to be in a race and he was trying to encourage her.

I think he had every right to be pi$$ed at her and every right to take the enjoyable way down.

If it means they can't be together--that's fine.

But she's not exactly the angel in this one.

I have phobias--a couple of intense ones and I communicate them in a respectful manner so that I am understood. Me having any work in a doctor's office involving a needle is downright hilarious if you are not me.

But it is a necessary evil at times and I simply alert the staff of what we need to do so that I get through the procedure conscious.

I have passed out twice and the last time was when I was 17 and to this day I still do what that doctor has suggested.

I have avoided passing out--but I have had some moments that were questionable.

I don't whine, I don't throw a hysteric fit--but we do what we need to do so that I can get through it in one piece. The person who is working with me has to have a conversation with me about nothing medical. It puts them on the spot--but we try to come up with something and it has worked like a charm. The only person who was mean about it in my life was one anestesiologist who administered an epidural. He treated me like a baby over my simple request and said if I passed out, then I couldn't get the epidural.

Couldn't make the jerk comprehend that I was warning him as I do of all medical staff the possibility so that they would be able to protect me if I collapsed (since you have to be upright to get the dumb thing).

Mika's unwillingness--oh my heavens! I understand the phobia--but her bratty behavior was over the top. She either had PTSD--which would explain the age level of her reaction and would be COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE if that were the case....or she's just used to mommy and daddy never encouraging her to do anything that was the tiniest bit uncomfortable for her.

I don't blame Canaan one bit. Temper or not temper--her behavior was completely inappropriate.

I don't think he was a jerk at all. I think her behavior made his seem worse than it was. Dealing with people and phobias isn't fun and she should have done a better job disclosing that fact in their brief relationship and not have agreed to go on the dumb race.

So happy the Globetrotters are still in! My kids and I were jumping up and down hoping Mika wouldnt go down that slide. Loved how when the Globetrotters got to go, the one just flew himself down that slide!!

I thought at one time when Mika was sitting down Caanan was trying to pry her arms off the bar above. I have to admit getting caught up in the moment, I would have tried to shove my partner down too.
I was afraid it would backfire on the GT by teasing her. I could just see her going down just to spite them. Glad she did not, but that would have proved motivation for a lot of people.
I am surprised no one has mentioned how irritating it was for Erica to yell and gritch at Brian at the glass assembly. She just sat back and did virtually nothing but kept yelling to him to figure it out. Brian also did the rowing challenge AND had to do all the math for the gold part. She is not proving to be that strong a partner.
