THE AMAZING RACE 15, Season Starts 09/27/09

How much is 14,166.00 dubai dollars converted into U.S.? I want to go to that Atlantis. :)

If the converter is right...
3857.31

Where di dyou see the price. I hope that includes airfare LOL.

I wonder if that Atlanis is the same as the one in Nassau that people on cruises like to go to.

Way to go Mika! I felt bad for her boyfriend, he wanted to go so bad, and there she is a little girl scared of a water slide. :worship:

It's definitely the same company. I've visited Atlantis in Nassau two or 3 times (twice on a cruise, and once while staying in the Bahamas) but have never stayed there. Maybe I should price that out for my fantasy trip planning as well. hehe

I can't believe anyone agreeing to go on the Amazing Race if they are so afraid of heights and water that they can't go down a water slide. That was ridiculous.

I can totally understand someone being afraid of heights and water but had they never watched the show before? Height and water and two major ingredients!

Agreed. I liked them at the beginning but tonight was just ridiculous. I wanted to push her down the slide myself. I was glad she couldn't bring herself to do it though because we really enjoy the Globetrotters. We just could not believe that someone could be so ridiculous over a waterslide. Its not as though they had to skydive or something. Sheesh!

I agree! Thank you Mika for acting like a 4yo so that the Globetrotters could remain! :thumbsup2

And yes her boyfriend was a jerk as well but I wanted to scream at the TV, "it's a WATERSLIDE!" Bungee jumping, I understand, but a waterslide?

I did scream at the tv. Come on 6 stories? I thought it was gonna be higher for crying out loud. Now I'll admit I'm just too lazy to climb up all them stairs but hey for a million bucks sure. Cannan seemed to take it well at the pit stop.

Mika seemed to be afraid of life itself. My opinion is she lived a sheltered life and never had to do or work for anything. Good riddance!

I was very glad also to see the Globe Trotters still in the race. It was irritating that in the previous episode they had been nothing but nice and helpful to all of these teams and not one of them helped them at the suitcase stop.

Can someone please post a recap of the first 30 minutes?

I can't believe Mika was afraid to go down the water slide. :rotfl2: She's almost as bad as the girl that had to stop and pee last season before checking in at the pit stop.:sad2:

Like the Amazing Race is going to do something to put their lives in danger..they don't want to get sued..I thought they were just editing for the drama..I couldn't believe she didn't go down that slide..I thought he was going to just kick her on down!!!

I thought it was funny Brian tried to do the long division by hand, but the Globetrotters just asked to borrow a calculator.

And about pushing her on the slide.... I would be okay if my dh did that now because he knows me and my limitations. He knows when to push and when to lay off, and I trust him. At 3 months or so into our relationship, it would not have set well -- not even for a million dollars.
Yea, that's a good point.

I'm glad the Globetrotters are still in it. I like them. Mika and Canaan definitely deserved to be eliminated, as much time as she had there and not being able to overcome her fear.

And as if it wasn't funny enough that Mika was wearing floaties, did you see Canaan blowing them up?! :happytv:

We laughed at that, too. Brian doing it by hand, then the brothers so happy that they had a calculator with them, then the poker players happy that they could use the brothers calculator, then the Globetrotters just borrow one! :happytv:

Exactly! I said to my DH - "Don't these people watch previous seasons?"

As I was watching tonight, I thought it would be a good idea to put a clock of sorts on the screen for the teams. It is easier to see how much time a team makes up or loses when there are other teams there, but what about when there aren't?

I mean just how long were Mika and Canaan up there before the Globetrotters got up there? If they had just skipped it and gone to the pit stop, what kind of penalty would they have gotten? Would it be a 30 minute penalty or a 2 hour one?

Personally, I think not going down that slide will end up being one of her big regrets in life. Not so much because of the money or Canaan, but that she let it defeat her.

I really didn't like Canaan getting mad at the Globetrotters for yapping at Mika. They were teasing her and telling her not to go down the slide. Them talking to her didn't change whether she was going to go down anyway. Quite frankly, if she had decided to go down the slide, the guys could have beat them to the pitstop.

The first 30 mins: one of the teammates needed to go to a yacht anchored out a little ways via an inflatable raft. There, they received a watch. They needed to use the watch to open a briefcase to recieve their next clue. Only the Globetrotter teammate who was doing this part didn't use the time set on the watch to open the briefcase. (he finally "got" it when his teammate asked him what time the watch was set at - that's the exact numbers needed to open the briefcase.) Then each team had to decide whether to assemble 12 hookahs or weigh $500,000 in gold. The Globetrotters were smart here and asked to borrow a calculator for the gold weighing.

I love Father/Son team Gary and Matt. Matt knew what a hookah was and Dad saying that's isn't what we called them in my day.

Oh man Mika is lucky that I wasn't her teammate. I would have shoved here down.

Now I am afraid of heights and not a fan of huge water slides- but I've done both just at Blizzard Beach to be with my kids. So for a million dollars you bet I am closing my eyes and jumping.

I thought it was interesting that her boyfriend kept saying this is a Life Altering decision.

I can't see that lasting. (they were newly dating anyway after that floatie freak out that would be the end for me)

And I agree it's the AMAZING RACE! You know there are going to be HIGH Scary things! Have you watched the show Mika?

I couldn't have done that water slide. I've been to the top of Summit Plummet and I couldn't go down. Million dollars or not, I couldn't have done that slide.

Now, having said that, I wouldn't have been wearing floaties, nor would I have carried on so much. I'd have told my partner, "sorry, this is where I draw the line."

That, my friends, is why I will never apply to be on TAR. I know my limitations... no big water slides, no bungee jumping, no scaling down buildings, no jumping out of planes.... etc. For me, it's about control. I wouldn't feel that I'd have any control of those situations.

omg.... I can't believe she just blew their race over that stupid water slide. And the floaties? :rotfl: I'm sure those would be so helpful on the water slide that empties into, what, 3 feet of water? She just strikes me as a total high-maintenance princess who has never had to do anything in her life that she didn't want to do. The foot stomping and whining was just classic. :lmao:

We laughed at that, too. Brian doing it by hand, then the brothers so happy that they had a calculator with them, then the poker players happy that they could use the brothers calculator, then the Globetrotters just borrow one! :happytv:

Since they showed the long division in the introduction to the challenge, I was surprised they were allowed to use a calculator.

I have to admit I would have shoved her down too. I guess I'm a meanie ;)

I agree with ya. I would love to know if her hissy fit lasted a half hour or an hour and a half. Once she started the I can't do this, I would have skipped it and taken the penalty. That roll of the dice, I could swallow that pill better, then just her flat out refusal to go and letting them pass us by.

You had better believe that if I was trying to make up time and I came up on a team with a wishy-washy player, I would do the exact same thing the Trotters did. All Mika needed to was just let go of the bar, close her eyes and it would have been over before she knew it. Once she got out of the way, I love how both the Trotters ran and shot down the slide. Even if Mika had gone done, once the Trotters were there with them, Mika and Canaan were done. Mika wouldn't have been able to out run BE and FT.

The guys are going to have to step up their game next week.
