The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Hey everyone, just popping in to say Hi!

We lost our first game last night, we had 5 errors. We won our game this morning, Kyle played shortstop and we turned two double plays!! Now we have the rest of the day off to relax.

I probably won't get a chance to check in tomorrow, we have a 9:00 game then travel 50 miles to play the final game at USM at 3:00(Kyle pitches that one).

I'll be back later today, hope everyone is having a good weekend!

WFD? I have no idea....no grilling the weather is overcast & rainy.

DH had a huge breakfast so that should do for awhile.

No plans just thinking about a little shoe shopping & the never ending laundry pile. I want to do some research on a trip to Europe in the late fall so that will be it for the day.
I hope everyone had a great, safe holiday.

Have to share my morning food blunder.

I poured oil into my coffee. I have been doctoring my coffee with some milk/cream and vanilla flavoring that comes in the big clear bottle (like they have at coffee shops). I grabbed the bottle out of the cabinet and milk out of the fridge and never even looked at it.

Poured the vanilla flavoring into the coffee and noticed it settled at the top. Added some milk, thinking it would help mix it, and it still stayed at the top and looked greasy. I turned the bottle around and sure enough - sesame oil. The bottles are almost identical!!

Poured it out and started over again =)

My sister's BBQ was fun. There was so much food and I sampled a lot of it. I brought home some real baked treats for buddy and he also is getting some salads with real mayo so he is going to be one happy man.

Good Morning!

We had a great time at the party yesterday. She had so much food...sausage, wings, salmon, lamb chops and flank steak. All the desserts were amazing too. The Mom of one of Tom's coworkers made amazing flan and these Portuguese custard cups called Pastéis de Nata...heavenly! Everyone loved my dip and banana pudding too.

I ate the salmon and liked it. I think I'll try to make it at home sometime.

I am going to my Uncle's wake today so dinner will be something quick. I am thinking grilled keilbasa and sauerkraut...who knows what else.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Oh boy...sounds like something I would do!

Good luck Kyle!

Marisa is making WW fudge cupcakes with patriotic sprinkles things and I made a huge fruit salad and a spaghetti salad. I also have the blueberry dessert if she only made plain jello salad.

Thanks for the WW recipes! Did you ever try the cupcakes or cake made out of cake mix, 1 can of diet soda and 2 egg whites? That comes really good too.

I grew up eating Kielbasa right from the Polish butchers in Wallington and Union City...love, love, love that stuff. Well, hubby only likes Hillshire Farm so that is what I make. We love it grilled...but I am with you...I love sauerkraut too. He likes that plain too...can't even add stuff to that. My good ol' Italian boy!

No need to be sorry on the ribs...I think they're on sale this week..

But, now I am also craving Salmon...which I always hated...SO...

Can someone tell me how to make this? I am thinking a maple glaze...like Le Cellier...

....for 'educational purposes', of course.....:rolleyes1

Of course :thumbsup2 How else was I going to be able to determine if the food was good enough to eat???????

I have made this and like it. I don;t think I used the egg white but my cousin told me it make a world of difference.

The ribs we had the other night were so good. I only cooked one rack because we also had chicken and steak for dinner so everyone sampled a little. It is a good thing because none of us girls should have had any but oh YUM! they were good.

If the weather hold we are going to have our BBQ. I have burgers and dogs, salads and toppings. Jeff and Dan work on Sunday and Buddy is going to try to get in the field and spray so we are going to be laid back at home.

Glynis- Buddy had an outdoor show on this morning that took place in Utah on a big game hunting ranch. They were hunting Bull Elk (?) and I kept wondering if I was watching your brother.

I don't know about a maple glaze, but I have an incredible homemade teriyaki sauce that is amazing on salmon. My son Jacob requests it for his birthday meal every year. If you want it, I'll post it!

Could be. He worked a big game ranch for quite a while. Lately, though, he's disillusioned by it. He'd rather find an elk in the wild, rather than on a ranch.

He and my hubby go elk hunting every year. They've only ever brought home an elk maybe 4 times, but I always keep my fingers crossed. I love elk!!!

Hey Y'all,

We had a nice quiet 4th. Barbecue at my aunt's on Friday. I fixed a white & red sangria for that. Yesterday DD, SIL & my Mom came over. We swam in the pool. Had grilled steaks, potatoes & onions in foil packets, drank more Sangria & ate watermelon.

I still have steaks leftover. Can't decide if we are eating that today or salmon. Thursday evening DH & I went grocery shopping. I went to a specific store to purchase Copper River Salmon, but DH spotted Silver Bright Salmon at $3.99 a lb, and wanted to buy a bunch of that for grilling yesterday. I wasn't thrilled cause we've never tried Silver Bright before. Can anyone tell me if it's good? Anyway all three guests turned their noses up at the idea of salmon, so we did the steaks. I did sneak

Aimee, Thanks for posting that chipotle salmon recipe! Since I'm stocked up on salmon, we'll probably try that!

Lauren, I've tried a few glazes on salmon. The one we really liked a lot, was not a salmon glaze at all, but the guiness & brown sugar sauce for the Irish brown bread! If you need the full recipe I can post that too. It calls for candied pecans, which I've done & it also really yummy. But here's the recipe for Le Cellier's maple glaze:
Maple Glaze:

7 fl oz. maple syrup, pure
1 tbs. honey, orange blossom
2 tbs. brown sugar, light
pinch kosher salt
pinch black pepper, fresh ground

Combine all ingredients in small saucepan and heat over low heat. Heat just long enough to incorporate all ingredients and for sugar to liquefy. Remove from heat and reserve warm for salmon.

Hi everyone! I should be getting Patrick ready for camp right now, but he developed an attitude and wanted to go off with one of his friends instead. They leave for camp tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. and I have no desire to pack him at 10:00 tonight. When I told him I would not pack for him, he said he wasn't going to camp. Sold. I called the church and told them not to expect him tomorrow. So instead, I'm drinking a glass of wine and relaxing. Well, in between laundry loads.

We had a nice fourth. Lunch with Kenny's step mother and dinner with my parents. As usual, my Dad's bbq chicken was delicious. He cooks in on the pit over wood coals and it slow cooks until it just falls off the bone.

Yesterday, Kenny and I went and got our anniversary massages. I must have really needed mine because I am really sore today. Afterwards, we went out for a casual seafood dinner.

Tonight Kenny is grilling steaks and we are having fresh summer squash, orzo pilaf, and sourdough rolls to go with them. And the leftover strawberry pretzel salad.

Welcome to our new poster(s).

Lauren, I too have a maple salmon recipe. Mine is marinated in the sauce and baked in the oven. My father loves it and he has never been really wild about salmon. It is a maple, ginger, soy based sauce and is really easy. I'd be happy to share, but everyone else's sounds so good.

Girls, I have to tell you about my Debbie.

That is so exciting. I wish her lots of luck, and if invited, I hope she is able to accept the opportunity.

I poured oil into my coffee.
 If I drank coffee, I could see myself doing this in the morning.

The maple glaze I usually make for salmon is maple syrup, soy sauce, garlic and ginger. (I don't really measure...but it's about equal parts syrup and soy, one minced clove garlic, and a tbsp or so of grated fresh ginger.) I heat that and cook it until it thickens a bit. You can put some of it on the salmon while cooking and reserve the rest to put on the fish once it is done.

I also make salmon with a honey/mustard glaze and top it with toasted pecans.

Sheryl -- I haven't heard of that type of salmon.

Kathy -- I hope Kyle did well this afternoon!

The kids and I spent the weekend with Beck and my parents. We had fried chicken, cole slaw, potato salad and cornbread on Saturday with strawberry shortcake for dessert. Today we had four types of pizza, salad and antipasto. My mom said it was a cheat weekend for dad, so no trilogy diet. Woo-hoo!

Gretchen -- We must have posted at the same time. I am glad you enjoyed your day yesterday and sorry Patrick is still being a teenager. Have an extra glass.

Lindsay, here is the brownie recipe. It is from the All American Cookie Book, and I have to say (a little sheepishly) this is my most used cookbook in my collection. The book fell open to this brownie recipe, so that gives you an idea of how often I have made it.

Fudge Brownies Supreme -- do not ice, embellish, add nuts or try to improve in any way...they are perfect as is (my notes)

1/2 c plus 2 tbsp butter
5 oz bittersweet or semisweet chocolate (NOT unsweetened) broken up or coarsely chopped (I use Ghiradelli bittersweet chocolate chips)
2/3 c flour
1 1/2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (the recipe calls for American style cocoa, but I've used Dutch Processed with equally good results)
1/4 tsp salt
1 c sugar
1/3 c packed light brown sugar
3 large eggs
2 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 350. Grease an 8 inch square baking pan, then line with foil, letting the foil hang over two edges, and grease the foil.

Microwave the butter and chocolate for 1 minute. Stir, then if necessary, microwave in 30 second increments until the butter and chocolate are melted. Do not overheat. Set aside.

In separate bowl, stir together flour, cocoa and salt.

Stir the sugars into the butter/chocolate mixture until combined. Add the eggs and vanilla and stir until blended and smooth. Stir in the flour mixture and stir until just combined. Don't over mix.

Turn out into prepared pan, and use a spatula to spread to edges. Bake 28-33 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean except for the bottom 1/4 inch. For best cutting results, allow to cool completely in the pan before removing foil (unless you are rushing out to a party then just take the foil out, and cut as best you can!)

WFD -We just had Chinese sausage sandwichs, and chips.

This is the first time I have bought these. They were surprisingly delicious. They taste similar to Chinese boneless spareribs. DH had them last week for the first time at my DB's BBQ. I parboiled inside, then grilled them.
