The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Glynis the pictures and the trip reports are great! The girls look like they're in heaven:)

...new poster to THIS thread, but I am probably just gonna order a pizza for the 4th of July - my DH went to upstate NY, my one DS is working down the shore, and my eldest DS is MIA (somewhere with his GF), so my youngest DS and I have the house to ourselves....I wonder if I can find a 'red, white, and blue' pizza?? :scratchin

WFD ~ I have no idea, the weather here is not cooperating and I was planning a simple picnic to take to the fireworks but I'll have to wait & see.

Dinner last night at the steakhouse was wonderful....I completely threw Nutrasystem to the wind.
Started with scallops seared in butter & a bit of wine & topped with froie gras (sp). They were served in very small individual cast iron skillets.
Main course filet mignon and creamed spinach, delicious.

For dessert we all shared a chocolate fondue with berries, cookies, brownies and bananas.

Did I mention the 2 Stoli martinis straight up with a twist?:) Delicious going down but this old woman suffers the next day like nobody's business:eek:

Wishing you all a safe and wonderful 4th!!!

So my 1st question there will be why have I had low back pain for almost 20 yrs & why do I have pain & numbness down my leg & foot?

I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on the DIS either but the first thing I thought of is that you might have a pinched nerve. I'm sure your doctor will be able to offer some solutions.

I made ravioli w/ spinnach inside and it cooked unevenly. Towards the center of the ravioli, it was hard, uncooked taste. How do I cook it so all parts cook evenly?.

Do you mean that the pasta was uncooked in the center? Sometimes I think ravioli takes longer than the directions state. I usually throw in a few more than I want to serve. Once the suggested cooking time is up I cut one in half and check to see how done they are. Usually they need another minute or two to be completely cooked.

Hey guys - I have a question. I've been doing the treadmill for about 1 1/2 weeks now and I just weighed myself for the first time since I was at the gym last Friday and I've lost 5 lbs. Is that normal, is it water...????????:confused3

Yup, it is probably water. I think when you start working out you'll have an initial loss, but then it will slow down to 1-2 lbs, week. That's good actually, you want to lose the weight slowly--it's more likely to stay off that way.

Lauren, I am sorry about your uncle.

Here is a photo of last night's dinner:

We have lots of leftovers, which is good because we are leaving shortly for John's aunts house for a 4th gathering. She has a tendency to "forget" that I don't eat red meat and sometimes there is nothing for me to eat except salad! But that's OK...I am bringing some wine so I'll be fine. ;)

I also prepared by making and consuming a huge breakfast:

Happy 4th, everyone!

If you were going to blow the whole diet thing , that was sure a great way to go out!!!!!!!!

WFD- we are eating light today. DH has to work later and weather is miserable here. Dinner will be Caesar salad w/ grilled shrimp.

4th!!![/COLOR]

:lmao::lmao::lmao: I suffer from the same malady.....two cocktails and I am off kilter the next day

We have lots of leftovers, which is good because we are leaving shortly for John's aunts house for a 4th gathering. She has a tendency to "forget" that I don't eat red meat and sometimes there is nothing for me to eat except salad! But that's OK...I am bringing some wine so I'll be fine. ;)

I am running into this but for a different reason. Whenever I am with my Sis IL and we decide to eat out she chooses someplace that will toss me under the bus. I have never been known for my willpower, Costco is a nightmare lately, so Italian Restaurants and Panera are not easy for me. The answer is always that I can have a salad. I know I can eat salad, I want a grinder, pizza, cookies and a coffeecake :headache:.

My question is how do you forget that one of your family members does not eat red meat????????

Welcome! If you can find a red white and blue pizza let me know. The only ones O can think of are dessert pizzas, which sound really good to me right now.

Good Morning! I am really tired and loopy again today and cannot sleep so please forgive me if I miss something.

I'm starting to worry about you. Get some rest and stop worrying about us. We are here and never get offended if you miss a post. Just take care of yourself.

As my trainer at the gym says "the pounds are just a number on the scale, the inches are how you look" Tell Marisa that 5 lbs of fat takes up a lot more room than 5 lbs of muscle so she could weigh more and look smaller.

Gretchen- she looks so good! Her clothes are loose again, the new ones fit beautifully in the back, which was a real problem area for her. She is trying to lose 2 pounds this week so that she hits her 35 but is worried about the weekend. I told her that we have done all we can to control it so stop worrying.

Today we are having grilled rib eye steaks, babyback ribs (Donny brought a lot over Memorial Day so I froze half. They are Lloyds, I think). Baked potatoes, fried peppers and onions, a veggies, salad and a cucumber and onion salad. I also made a SF, FF jello square recipe, a cherry Angel Food cake and a blueberry pineapple jello salad. It is something like the blueberry dump cake we all love but a little lighter.

We will eat later in the day. One of Dan's trees lost some branches in a neighbors yard during the storm this week and he did not know. He and Buddy are going to cut it way back so that it does not happen again.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July all!

Hi! Thanks for worrying about me guys...I am fine, I promise. Just beat. :)

Welcome! As soon as I saw "Down the shore" I had to see where you were from! I am originally from 16E, good ol' Secaucus. Currently, Ext 14, then out west on 78...;)

I noticed the "down the shore" also. We were headed down the shore today but the weather is against us.
I'm in Bergen County:)

My Mom made a new ice cream cake recipe last night. It was a huge hit with everyone....and boy it is so darn easy!

Ice Cream Sandwich Cake
2 boxes of Ice Cream Sandwich
Lg Cool Whip
Chopped Heath Bar (You can substitute nuts, reese, choc chips, etc)

9x13 pan layer one box of ice crean sandwiches, 1/2 of cool whip then topped with candy pieces. Repeat. Leave half of the candy aside to top cake once it is removed from the freezer to serve.

Chill at least 4 hours (She made hers the day before). Top with remaining desired candy and serve.
(DF thought it would be good with coconut and almonds, like an Almond Joy his favorite)

This is a really good (and popular) recipe! There are so many flavors of ice cream bars that you can go to town with it. I like to make it with mint chocolate chip ice cream bars and top it with chopped peppermint patties. I've also used peanut butter flavored ice cream bars and reese's peanut butter cups. I've used Neopolitan bars, and butter pecan. The possibilities are endless! My kids request it all summer long, and I'm happy to oblige since the ingredients are so cheap!

Welcome to the thread! It's nice to "see" new faces.

As to the pizza, here's what I did for my kids last year. I stretched pizza dough into a rectangle, cut up pepperonis for the stars in the upper left corner, then used string cheese sticks and pizza sauce to make the stripes. They loved it. I couldn't think of anything blue. I guess you could use olives for the stars, and pepperoni for the red stripes. Hmmm, ideas, ideas.

Well, the deviled eggs are done, the potato salad is working, and I'll do the fruit salad later this afternoon so it won't turn brown on me. I'm in the middle of making the ice cream, and I'm optimistic. I'll let it harden in the freezer for a few hours before we head over to the block party.

I've spent some time this morning helping set up in my neighbors backyard and it looks so good! I've got to get the simple syrup for DH's homemade root beer made, so I guess I'll go do that! I'll try to remember to take some pictures (and have someone take some pictures of me).

Have a great 4th of July, folks!

Gretchen, Thank you for the recipe! Sounds yummy!

You're welcome. We really enjoy it, especially in the summer.

No, I haven't heard from her. Hope all is well.

I have been getting worried too. I thought about her this morning when Amanda was eating a bowl of fruity pebbles.

That sounds phenomenal. And I agree with Ann, if you're going to go off your diet, that's the way to do it. All those calories seem completely worth it.

And it looks wonderful. But I hope she doesn't "forget" this year.

That is one of my favorite salads of all time. I used to make them here until Kenny discovered there were anchovies in the dressing. :confused3 I mean, how can you possibly like something one day and then refuse to eat it the next?

(This does not, of course, include Becky's venison hoof)

This is simple. She is jealous and does not want you to succeed. It is an ugly truth, but it is unfortunately, the most probable reason. When I lost a lot of weight years ago, my mother was the same way. She would buy my favorite candy bars and give them to me, etc. Just keep doing what you're doing Nancy. I'm pulling for you.

Glynis, please send some of your energy to me. I honestly don't know how you do all of it. Really I don't. And especially pregnant. All I wanted to do while I was preggers was sleep.

We just had hamburgers on the grill with Kenny's stepmother. We sort of threw it together over here because we found out she wasn't doing much today. We're still going to my parents' tonight. And Sheryl, I must be crazy. Our massages are tomorrow. Maybe it was wishful thinking on my part yesterday.

Quick check-in from Hattiesburg. We're in a beautiful brand spankin new hotel in a really nice part of town. Everything in the area looks new!!! We have 3 restaurants within stumbling, um I mean walking distance.;) And there is a mini-gym in the hotel:thumbsup2

Off to our first game in about 30 minutes, having a redneck sangria right now.:goodvibes

I wish that I could take a nap right now, but all 4 kids are piled on my bed watching tv since the ice cream freezer is so noisy! Oh well, maybe I'll nap on the couch. I'm in good shape! The ice cream looks good, the potatoes for the salad are boiling away, the strawberries for the jello are sliced, the brownies are frosted, the deviled eggs are done. I think I've earned a break! Katie still has to frost her "firecracker" cupcakes. She colored some coconut red, and some blue, and we're keeping some white. She'll frost the cupcakes with vanilla frosting, top them with one of the colors of coconut, and then add a licorice "fuse". They looked cute in the magazine. Let's just keep our fingers crossed.

I'm not planning on doing the fruit salad until about 6:00, and just before that I'll help Leslie make watermelon pops. We're just cutting out star shapes from seedless watermelon, adding a popsicle stick and then sticking them in the freezer for an hour or so. Quick and easy!

So, a nap is definitely in my future!

...If you do find one, please be sure to let us know.....

...I'm thinking: DESSERT PIZZA! Then I coud use all the fresh strawberries, rasberries, and blackberries, and whipped cream I just bought!
