The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

I lost a child last night. She went horseback riding with her father, opened a can of coke and the horse got spooked and took off - she fell off and was dragged (foot stuck in the stirrup). Careflighted but they couldn't save her.

I got word this morning and my heart just sank. She was 9 years old and a beautiful spirit. Put a damper on my morning...

Pray for her family. Her parents were seperated and this was a dad activity - he is not doing well. They buried stillborn twins just 2 years ago so this is their 3rd child to bury. They have 9 total, she was one of the oldest and was best friends with her 10 year old sister.

In other news...

Becky, your food porn is making me drool. I'm beyond impressed. Thanks for posting them!

Tonight we have a Vespers service and Memorial Day fun at our church encampment. We're going out early for inflatables and having fried chicken for dinner. I love pot lucks - I'm bringing Glynis' ranch potato salad!

Enjoy the afternoon

Becky - All I can say is O.....M.....G! Everything looks amazing.:thumbsup2

Aimee - There are no words to express my sorrow over the loss of that young girl. My heart just aches for her family. I'll keep them and you in my prayers.:grouphug:

Aimee, good luck to your DH on the job search. Fingers crossed and prayers sent oyour way.

Kathy, thanks for the open offer to *itch if needed. You are such a kind lady.

First day of our long weekend! We slept in and DS actually slept all night.
I think tonight we are going out to eat somewhere tonight. We started the day with a big meal to prepare us for yard work. I made Portugese sweet bread french toast, "Yum" to quote DS.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
Ann

Ann, have you posted this recipe? If not, will you??? I love french toast, and this one intrigues me!

Dinner last night was eggs on an English muffin for me and chicken for Marisa and Buddy. Buddy turned his into sandwiches and Marisa added quinoa to hers. I could not even think of real food.

Everything went well I guess. I have nothing to compare so I guess it was fine. I did have a bad rest of the day though. My little Buster has been sick and losing weight quickly. We found out that he had FIV and has been taking clavamox to keep that respiratory infection at bay. He has been losing weight rapidly and his energy level has not been good, but as long as he was eating a little and coming out to visit I wanted to keep trying. Yesterday I took him for a weight check and he had lost another 2 pounds. The vet thinks that he might have cancer but I was not willing any more tests. We decided that enough was enough so I had to let him go. He was the sweetest little guy and I am missing him so much already. I know that this was the right thing to do, but I wish that there had been more that I could do.

Buddy is taking Kady out for dinner tonight to recognize her reading award. She has been working very hard to get this so she is thrilled. I was not invited, but she may take her little girl friend. Every young lady needs a special night with her Pa.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your little guy! It's never easy!

WFD - It's just me and Sammie and my stomach is just getting back to normal so something very light and simple. Gotta start prepping stuff for Memorial Day grilling tomorrow.

What's everyone having? We're doing:

Gaucho Rib-eyes
Herb grilled chicken
Cajun Oven Fries
Cheesy corn on the cob
Beck's spicy slaw
Janice's incredible melted ice cream cake

Since it's our anniversary we are not doing our annual barbecue. I don't know where we're going for dinner. Alan hasn't told me that, yet.

Hey, does anyone know what the 18th anniversary is? You know, paper, jewelry, etc? I'm just wondering. We don't really do much for anniversary presents, but I'd just like to know what I'll be missing.

Morning all!

I am making us breakfast for dinner. We are having scrambled eggs with turkey sausage and Glynis blueberry muffins. I will probably make some coffee to go with it.

Hey Glynis, would you mind posting the recipe for the Warm Lemon Cake again? I think it was you who posted it. Thanks!

I'd be happy to. Give me a while to look it up in my file.

I will definitely pray for this family. It's a horrible accident.

When I was a teenager, I was on a church activity. A bunch of us were riding up the canyon in the back of a pickup truck. As we went over a bump, the girl I was next to, flew out of the back and hit her head on a rock. It was horrible to watch.

I googled and I found porcelain, you're not missing much.

It is chilly here! It's been raining off and on for the last 3 days.

Dinner for us is my pot roast (it smells so yummy, and I still have to wait another hour!), green beans, and sticky rice. Yummo!!! Dessert will be brownies in the car as we travel to different cemeteries to lay flowers.

We spent yesterday at my nephews wedding. There was a TON of family crap from my MIL. She is a real piece of work, and suffice it to say that, for now anyway, she is out of our lives. I can't say I'm unhappy about it, as she is an abusive manipulator, but it has hurt my darling husband. He doesn't deserve this. Luckily, his siblings are all very supportive of him, so that helps!

Alright! Thanks so much for looking it up for me! I definitely don't need any porcelain, and I don't think I'd trust Alan to buy me anything like that, anyway!

Guess I'll just try to wheedle something we need for the house out of Alan.

Thanks, my friend, you're definitely the best!

Ok, here's the recipe for the warm winter lemon cake.

Want to add to that this recipe can be mixed and matched in many ways, using different flavors of cake mix and pudding mixes.:thumbsup2

Today we are going to my ILs for a Memorial Day cook-out. We are having hamburgers and hot dogs (just to refresh your memory the burgers are Wal-Mart patties with zero seasoning on them, and mashed until every single bit of juice has disappeared from the burger- oy, my MIL feels the need to kill the cow again!).

I am taking deviled eggs (hate to make them, hate to eat them, but oh well) and a chocolate mocha trifle.

Have a great day!

Okay, this is the third time I post, hit a button and then lose the entire post, thread and everything I posted!
Wendie- enjoy your time with your Dad! I am so excited for all of you!

Glynis- Happy Anniversary! So much to celebrate....a wonderful marriage, lovely children and another blessing on the way. Too bad that your MIL managed to insinuate herself into a weekend that was not about her and ostracize herself from her son as well :sad2: My DH mother is like that. He very seldom sees her and speaks to her only when he cannot avoid it, but each time she screws it up and he moves further away. It is a shame. He is like Alan, a family man who believes that family is the heart and soul of life so he would move mountains if she would just be nice.

Aimee- my heart breaks for this poor family and he loss that they have suffered. I have offered prayers for them and for your Church family as well.

Kathy- when there are ball games plans are never going to be stable. I am sorry that you are going to miss some of Kyle's games. I would not leave your Sammie alone either. You would be worried the entire time and she would be scared.

Becky- your food looks way too pretty to eat. Seriously, any one of those dishes could be on the cover of Bon Appetit Magazine. And let's not talk about your cocktails...............

Lindsay- Your MIL's burgers are legendary on this thread :lmao:

Lauren- Congrats to Andrew and his team!

Thank you all for your thoughts about Buster. I have never had to let an animal go before and was so afraid for him. Buddy said he still remembers his dog's eyes when had to take her. I know that they trust you and I hope that I did not make him wait too long. I would never forgive myself if he suffered.

Memorial Day! Buddy and I watched the concert last night and once again I was so moved. Both of our Dad's served in the Navy during WWII, my Dad was a cook on an aircraft carrier and his was on a PT boat, and both were in the So. Pacific. My Dad went on to become a Chef, it was not his first career, so that was amazing IMO.

Anyway, I cannot imagine what our lives would be like without the men and women who choose to place their lives in harms way to keep us safe and top protect our freedoms. And then their families. My God, the sacrifices that they offer for us. I am in awe. The stories of Heroism and Bravery were so humbling and I know that there are so many more that will never be told.

We are going to have a little BBQ today. We ran out of gas, yest three tanks empty here, so Dan is bringing his tank to us so that noone needs to run to the filling station.

We will have
Burgers, beef and turkey
Hot Dogs with toppings and onions and peppers
BBQ chicken thighs
Spicy cole slaw
Spaghetti salad
Potato salad
Chili, if I don't run out of steam
Lettuce and tomato salad
Fruit Salad

Last night we had garlic chicken, corn, WW couscous and salad

Nancy, what is your recipe for spaghetti salad? My husband's family all love spaghetti salad and so I am curious how you make yours. Their recipe has lots of olives, and a white sauce.

Here are some photos from yesterday's dinner. Pineapple fried rice:

We're grilling cornish hens today.

Lindsay, are you already planning your post-meal snack? :lmao:

Seems like many of us are having difficult weekends. I think we need a :grouphug:

We're going to a BBQ - I think hamburgers and hot dogs are on the menu. I'm bringing chips and dip and beer. (they just have coors light - ICK!)

Happy Memorial Day!

Aimee, That is so awful! Prayers for that poor family.

Nancy, I am so sorry about your Buster. Even when we know it's the right thing to do, it's still so very hard.

Glynis, Happy Anniversary! You have a lot to celebrate, a wonderful husband, healthy children & a new baby on the way! :cool1:

Sorry about your MIL spoiling the family celebration.

Becky, OMG!!! What can I say? You just continue to amaze me! :worship: Everything looked so wonderful! You must have packed steamer trunks full of food! Especially LOVE all the yummy drinks! And the roadside shack food & the fancy rest. food look great too!!! Did you pick up any new tricks that will go into your regular repertoire?

We had a nice weekend. Saturday night we went to an engagement party for my niece. Her fiance's dad fixed the most awesome rum punch! But he wasn't giving away the total recipe?! I am going to have to figure it out, from the little he told me. It was perfect, not too sweet.

Yesterday we watched the Indy 500, then DD & SIL went through quite a lot of effort to get Bob into their corvette. So the rest of the afternoon was spent with us taking turns driving Bob around in the car. Dinner was Popeye's fried chicken.

Today, DH had too work. So no barbecuing. Maybe for dinner, but I also have 2 empty propane tanks sitting outside. I'm taking advantage of my last quiet day, Alexis will be here tomorrow! And she has a lot to talk about! Their trip home was rough, she cried & cried when they WDW. Then kept asking & crying about getting home. She has also decided she will NEVER go on the "Drop Elevator" ride again! "It's SO, Soo Scary!"

We give thanks to all who have served our country. And to those that are sacrificing to serve this country now.
