The All-New "unofficial" AKL/AKV's Jambo & Kidani FAQ thread.....

Hiya,

Has anyone used gardengrocer from kidani? On there web site it list akl, so I would think they would go there, or do you pick it up at jambo?

During our Jiko meal following the Wanyama Safari on December 17 the filet platter was accompanied by the mac & cheese.

You can book the Wanyama Safari 180 days out from the date of your actual Safari.

For a wedding proposal - how exciting! - you might have a special animal moment during the safari where a proposal would be cute (some giraffes will come real close to check you out.) The sun actually set during our Dec. 17th safari and that would be a great time. Otherwise, I would suggest just before desserts are brought out at Jiko. Let Disney know when you book this but don't tell your girlfriend. I expect that they will have something special for you.

But although it's been done a million times, a wedding proposal with the castle in the background is always pretty special. You could even get that captured by a Photo Pass photographer (they'll use your camera too when you request it.)

Thank you for your suggestions.

I was deffinately going to let IPO know that I was planning something and would eventually tell them my plans once I knew. I figured they are the people to go to to help me out on this, even if its just to decorate the room or something while I am out popping the question. That is one reason why I thought the safari would be a good time... they know we aren't there and when we would be back.

I thought about doing it in front of the castle, but a proposal in Disney is cliche enough for me... doing it there would take something away from the moment (yes ladies, the moment isn't just about you). Thats why I thought maybe somewhere at the resort would be a little different (although I know it is not origional). I was also toying around the idea of doing it out by the fire pit. I'm still trying to think of other ideas. I have 288 days to figure out a game plan.

Wondering how the couch bed is? Comfortable mattress or you had a bar in your back? Will sleep with sis if I have too but would love to each have a bed.

Thanks so much, mky

I'd love to hear everyone's answers on this too.

Also, did anyone really get use out of their kitchen. We're getting the DDP, but plan on having early breakfasts in the room most days. Since we might be driving, what would the best supermarket be to shop at? If we fly, can we only order from garden grocer?

Just wanted to mention what my hubbie did as another option. It was totally unexpected. We went for a ride on a mouseboat (those 2 seater boats) on the 7 seas lagoon. He popped the question while we were on the boat w/view of the castle. There was no one else around us which was nice too. Just make sure you insure the ring 1st!
Another option I think would be magical is to have dinner at Narcoossee's & when the fireworks start, go watch them on the balcony. Either propose during or right after fireworks.

Thanks.

The fireworks idea is a thought. I won't rule that one out.

As for the boat idea, I thought about that. Problem is my cousins husband proposed to her in a similar way (he said it was just incase she said "no" he could leave her in the middle of the lake they were on). I am one of those people who tries to be unique when I can. It just stinks being the youngest in the family. Some of the better ideas have been done already. I am such a pain and perfectionist sometimes I don't know how she deals with me.:confused3

How about on Tom Sawyers Island, find an out of the way area, she wouldn't expect it there, its unique and I bet no one has ever proposed there!

My husband just ordered our stuff and said they actually specifically list Kidani on their website as a delivery option as opposed to just AKL. So I believe your stuff will be coming directly to Kidani.

We used garden grocer in September and they delivered rightto Kidani. Our items were waiting for us upon our arrival.

:goodvibes

My DH slept on it 2 nights (he was ill). He said it was fine. Not terrible, yet not as good as a bed. We used it for the kids and I thought it was great for them!

We arrive at the AKL around 8pm on the first night after using ME from MCO, what activities would be available about that time for my DH and DS(6) to do while I organize the room for a 9 night stay? We are there on April 30 to May 9th CL, I know the lounge will be open and so is the pool, does anyone know when the fireside story time is? We are from the west coast so our clocks will be 3 hrs out and we would like to tire out DS so he is ready for the next day. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.....

I believe that the story is around 7 or 7:30. However, there may be a cultural exchange in the evening. The last time that I went to one it was at 8 or 9.

I posted this to the CL thread, too and I hope to get some comments here.

I just booked the Kilimanjaro Club for the first time after having stayed at the AKL for the first time in August. I would love to read about your experiences staying club level at the AKL:hyper:

~Did CL staff greet you upon arrival?

~Was the lounge kept neat and clean?

~Were items replenished?

~What did you like/dislike about the lounge, food, staff and your 4th floor room location?

I look forward to reading about the Kilimanjaro Club - TIA!

~Did CL staff greet you upon arrival?---- YES

~Was the lounge kept neat and clean?---- YES

~Were items replenished? ---- YES, sometimes you might have to ask for something you want but overall yes in time

~What did you like/dislike about the lounge, food, staff and your 4th floor room location?I have stayed twice and every time I have loved it more, mostly just the convenience of it all. and the Sunrise Safari! You can see pictures on my TR starting on page 10

Does anyone know how early before MK opening the busses start? I know they usually run an hour earlier than park opening, but I was hoping they may leave earlier for MK to accommodate the character breakfasts. We were hoping to be done with our breakfast and head over to MK soon after park opening at 9...so hoping for breakfast around 7:30. Will this work?

I believe that they actually start earlier than an hour before now because of all of the character breakfasts, but I am not sure how early.

Can non-DVC guests staying at AKL Jambo House use the pool area at Kidani? It looks like it may offer a little more for my young kids than the pool at the lodge.

They have that weather disclaimer in the written material but they told me that it is rarely cancelled. Severe thunderstorms would be a problem as would hurricanes. Other than for those they pretty much go rain or shine. They even said the rain can be some of the best times because the animals are out enjoying the rain.

Below are a few of my many photos taken while on the Wanyama Safari. The ostrich came after my purple fleece that was tied around a post on our vehicle shortly after he spotted it. I don't have any pictures of that as I was desperately trying to shue him away - it was a riot. I'm sorry that I was so engrossed in converstation during our meal that I forgot to take photos of the platters as they were brought to the table. I did get one shot of my plate of entrees after I had taken the first few bites. If you're celebrating something special be sure to note it in your reservation. The final picture shows our anniversary treat served just after the desserts were brought to everyone.
