We booked a standard view AKL room for next June. Should we keep it or upgrade to a better view room? Since we are planning a lot of time in the parks, do you think I might be able to change/upgrade our room during our stay(if available)? Please help:)

Think about a Pool View room - and request Zebra Trail.

Only about $10 more per night, and worth it ...

Thanks. Why didn't I think about the pool view from the beginning?! All these time, I was back and forth with "standard" or "Savannah" view. I am going to call my TA to move us to a pool view room. :worship:

I honestly never thought about asking for a good view of the giraffes and zebras! I'll phone and do this!

Thanks for the info on the room too!

Christie

That's a good idea. While we saw plenty of zebras and giraffes on the Arusha savanna last April, we didn't see any zebras in July/August. I think they moved them to the Sunset savanna, but I am not sure. I think it's better to just ask for the animals since they seem to be moving them around lately with the new savannas and the expansion. That way, you should be able to get just what you want!:goodvibes

We were at AKL a few weeks ago and saw plenty of giraffes and zebras on the sunset savanna (including a baby one, so cute!!) We had booked a standard view but were given an upgrade on arrival. If we stay at AKL again I would definately book the savanna view from the start!

If you want a better view, I'd suggest pool view. Since you'll be spending lots of time in the parks, and there are lots of lovely savanna overlooks throughout the resort, you can save some money and still have a nice view.:goodvibes

We are booked for a standard view room next June. Last time we were at a Disney resort, we were very far away from the lobby. We did not like that.

I was wondering if the rooms in the lobby building were standard view. If possible, is it wise to try to get a room in that building, or is it better to try for a room near the lobby but on one of the trails? And if it is better to be on one of the trails, which trail should we request? I think I remember reading that some standard view rooms are actually "bad" savannah views. That might be nice.

Thanks!

Here's a map of AKL - a Pool View Room on the Zebra or Giraffe Trails will put you close to the lobby, restaurants, etc.

Just looking at joelp's map (thanks for posting), can anyone advise where the club level rooms are located? I appreciate they are not on a separate 'secure' area like other resorts but wondered if they were all still together and where they are?

Thanks

Thank you so much for your response. Right now we are booked with AAA discount. Sure hope that some kind of discount code will appear as our vacation dates draw closer.
I think the AAA rooms are usually available (as I understand it, there are only so many rooms that can be booked with any discount, including AAA, but that it's usually not a problem to get one). So you shouldn't have any trouble upgrading. But if you really think you'll want to, you might want to go ahead and book that now so you know that you have it.

All AKL-CL rooms are on the 4th floor, Savannah View - Kudu or Zebra Trail. They try to put CL guests in rooms closest to the lobby (looking at the AKL map: usually in the first 2 "buildings" on each side). HTHs! :)

I usually request "Zebra Trail" because that is more convenient to the pool, restaurants and buses (but I don't mind staying on Kudu either! ;))

Fantastic, thanks :)

I just booked 4 nights at AKL club level for January (AAA rate $297/nt) and requested a bunk bed room. I can't wait until January!:banana::banana:

Thanks for the help! I'm sure I'll be lurking here a lot in the next few months!

That is a great price!!! CL at AKL is awesome. Wish I could travel during the school year -- I can't get anything close to that price...:sad2: Hope you have a wonderful time there!:goodvibes

I've never stayed Club Level anywhere, Disney or elsewhere. And we have been wanting to stay at AKL since we had our first dinner at Boma several years ago. I can't wait!

We usually don't travel during the school year, but my kids have a half day Thursday and are off Friday (end of the nine weeks). They will only miss the half day. We were supposed to go in August along with a trip to Universal, but it will be so hot that I think we will enjoy January much more. We will still do Universal in August, but I can't wait for January!

That's exactly what I did! We have a pool view, 2 queen bed reservation (bunk beds cost a bit more - and my d doesn't want a bunk bed :rotfl:). I'm so glad I did something right! Hope I get it - in just 4 days, I'll know!

I know the feeling about AKL. We went to Boma for dinner one night and knew that we had to stay there on our next trip to WDW. It took us 3 years to go back, and when we did we stayed CL at AKL and just loved it there...

I think January would be a great time to go because of the prices, the smaller crowds, and the weather. We live too far away to go for a short trip, though, so we end up with tons of people and crowded school holidays, but at least I get to go to WDW!:goodvibes

I"m so happy i found this thread, we will be staying at AKL in december... I just have one question and I just can't seem to find the answer...

what time does the pool/jacuzzi's close at?

I am not sure that it closes. When I stayed at one of the AKV Conceirge studios in May of last year, the bellman who delivered our bags told us that the pool was open 24 hours. My friend who was with me definitely used the pool real early in the morning (5 AM maybe).

When we stayed there in January 2008 the pool was open 24 hours. I went down there to swim on a few times at 6 am and regularly met the guy who was cleaning the pool chairs and he told me that I was welcome to go swimming. However, the spas (hot tubs) had opeing times posted, I think they were 8 am to midnight or so. That's why never used them in the mornings.
