It looks like AKL offers a ton of activities daily. For those of you who have already stayed there, are there some activities that really stood out as "must-do's". Any favorites? Any we could skip?

We have a limited amount of time at AKL and we're hoping to squeeze in a few special activities. Your reviews/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!:)

I'm sure this is a question that has been asked a million times, but do all safari's have giraffe's and zebra's? TIA :goodvibes

I enjoyed the story telling.

No, I think that the Uzima savanna doesn't have zebras.

A note about Mara food...

I was just there in March and found the selection more than adequate! They have lots of pre-packaged food as the pp states, including sandwiches, desserts, fruit, hummus and pita chips, fresh baked muffins & cookies, and a great variety of food for kids. The menu was much improved since our last trip there in October! There was a chicken flatbread pizza (that I did not see listed on the AllEars menu as pp mentioned) that was so outstanding I think that I had it three times! The chicken strips for adults satisfied my husband to no end. As a note, I noticed that one family ordered an entire full size pizza...I'm not sure if that is just from the room service menu or if they made a special request. Their breakfast is more than adequate as well! I think that you will find a good variety of flavorful items!

Great to hear!!! I have seen the whole pizza on a menu either on this site or another one, I can't remember but the way my husband and kids eat pizza, I know they'll be many pizza nights. Unfortunately I have some bizarre problem with most pizza sauces (I have yet to figure out what is in it that makes me violently ill) so I'll stay away from it but they will love it.

Also, does anybody know which fountain drinks are at AKL that you can use the refillable mugs for?? I know I can decide when I get there if I want to buy them, but if they have Fruitopia or iced tea or lemonade then my kids will drink that, and then I won't buy as many drinks from Garden Grocer before I get there.

Thanks!!!

I read somewhere on the dis that the Photopass people are taking photos of AKL guests in the lobby...is this true, and if so, what does it entail? where do they take the pictures? could you get a few good pics without booking a photo session? IF you've done a photosession at the AKL, did you like the pics and the locations they chose?

I was wondering if all of the Savannah views yield a good view. Are there any rooms that are obstructed by trees, plants, poles, etc that I should avoid? I will be happy anywhere as long as I can really see the animals :)

I really enjoyed the cultural safari offered in the evening where a cast member from Africa tells you about his or her country. However, it is a bit more adult oriented, so younger kids would not enjoy it too much.

You'll get a daily activities schedule when you check-in ... Some of the activities are more "age appropriate" than others ... I would take a look a what's going on and just go from there, doing what you think you're family would like best (assuming you can get them out of the pool, away from the savannahs, out of the lobby ...)

Enjoy!!
:dance3:

I can't answer any of your questions but when we were at AKL a couple weeks ago, a photographer had an area set up in the lobby by one of the seating areas. Had those umbrellas set up and bright lights, etc..

Thanks everyone. I will keep my request with Zebra trail and hope for the best. I appreciate all the responses.

We have not done the PhotoSession, but did take advantage of the AKL PhotoPass photographers at Christmas. He probably took 6-8 pictures in front of the tree in the lobby and we were happy with them.

Can anyone tell me about the cooking decorating at Boma????????
We never got a chance to do it because when we were there it was always very early in the afternoon like 1 so it never worked for our time schedule. Lots of the activities my kids liked were during prime park time though they did a few of the pool side activities. The ones we liked best though were the various cultural or animal related activities where you could really talk to the CMs in depth. They had a number of activities where you could earn a bead to keep on a string but we never bothered with that because my kids would have gone over board with wanting beads :scared1:

Every night during our stay (2/7 - 2/14) the Photopass photographers were there. One photographer told me that this was a new thing they were doing. They would be in the lobby from 4:30 - 9:00 p.m. AKL and two other resorts (one was the Grand Floridian) were the only places where they were taking pictures in the lobby according to the photographer.

Hmm, just read about the Mara now having chicken flatbread. Sounds great, can't wait to try it out! :)

I've been mailing with IPO to arrange something for my birthday. There's only two of us going, and between that, the CL and the warm weather, I'm pretty sure ordering a cake would result in major left overs. So, I asked about the other options. I'm having them set up something through in-room dining. IPO describes it as:
The other is a chocolate coco pod filled with 5 off our assorted truffles and there is a chocolate logo ribbon and fresh fruit on the tray as well.

Since it's done through in-room dining, I think this thread is the best to ask this; anybody had this already?

Yum on the flatbread :thumbsup2 Thanks for the info.

P.S. I clicked on your Photo to try and get a better look but it was still small. What museum is that??

OK - just re-read your post and totally missed the fact that you were asking about experiences with the cocoa puff/chocolate ribbon item... Sorry! I haven't had or seen that and it's not in my in-room menu. Hope someone else can help!
