The All-New "unofficial" AKL/AKV's Jambo & Kidani FAQ thread.....

It's really festive! I saw it in someone's trip report last summer and emailed the photo to AKL IPO ;) and Voila! mmmears, don't you think your DD would love it?? ;)

That's what I was thinking... but between the gifts IPO is getting for her, the things we're bringing, some other surprises I have in the works, and all the yummy treats in the CL lounge, I'm thinking that it might be too much! Does look really tempting, though... When I was asking about bday cakes and treats (with the IPO office), no-one mentioned this. I definitely would have considered this before setting up everything else. We decided against a cake since we really can't eat a whole cake and we dont need the extra sugar!;)

Well, based on that and on what the PP mentioned IPO suggested, maybe Indaba is no longer available?? I hope it is, though!

Yes, you have enough great stuff lined up for your trip... I was just teasing you! I just looked at you countdown... 2 more weeks!! :yay::woohoo::dance3::banana::cool1::wizard: Yay!! Can;t believe it. You're going to have SOOOO much fun!! I'm so happy for you!

Thanks! We're getting really excited!:banana::banana::banana: Of course, that also means I need to start packing soon...:rolleyes1

Yum on the flatbread :thumbsup2 Thanks for the info.

May I suggest the Indaba?? Here is a pic:

I ordered it for our room in late July. My good friend and her daughter joined us for a few nights at AKL and IPO arranged to have it delivered to my room the first night they had arrived... As you can see it makes quite a festive display! I have the In-Room Dining menu from that visit and it says "Indaba $40.00 Serves 2-4 Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge logo with Cookies, Brownies and Chocolate animals."

If you don't want to order a cake, I would consider this for sure :thumbsup2 Good luck!

P.S. I clicked on your Photo to try and get a better look but it was still small. What museum is that??

OK - just re-read your post and totally missed the fact that you were asking about experiences with the cocoa puff/chocolate ribbon item... Sorry! I haven't had or seen that and it's not in my in-room menu. Hope someone else can help!

Oh don't me sorry! You've convinced me! :lmao: I actually didn't know about this when talking to IPO and asked if there was an option to do something like chocolate animals or something, and they came with what I mentioned earlier and the zebradomes. After reading this, I surfed to the menu on Allears, quoted the Indaba and asked if it's still available and if so; GET ME IT! (well, in a nicer way ;) ).

The pic isn't in a museum. It's a pic made about noon in a mall in Portugal. The older folks there still find their midday break very important, which resulted in us running into this old man sleeping in the middle of a mall. He was there around break time, so why not take the break right then and there? :rotfl2: Lovely mall, decorated with art as you can see. It was just too great of a picture oppertunity to let it pass. If you wish I can post a bigger one.

Sorry to be the one to break the news to you, but the Indaba is NOT available anymore. I ordered one for our stay in Jan for my DH's birthday and while we were there, I got a phone call from IPO saying they had a big problem. Well, they told me it wasn't available anymore and I had to choose/find something else! :headache: They had some new selections that I wasn't really interested in (one was something with a chocolate boat, but it came with coconut which my DH hates, so that was out). Anyway, after a very long hour and a half of going back and forth (managers included...IPO staff got them involved), the head bakery chef decided to make it one last time just for me for DH. So, according to them, I got the very last one that was to be made. :scratchin No one could understand why it was being continued because it was so popular. I hope they brought it back or will bring it back soon. Good luck.

That's too bad:guilty: I wondered if maybe that was going to be the case, since it had not been offered as an option to goofieslonglostsis. Maybe they can do something similar for her??

goofieslonglostsis - It may be that IPO is going to end up with the same problem? Thinking it's available when it's not :confused3 Perhaps you should ask for a festive cake in the smallest size possible?? I know I've seen pics on the Cake Thread w/ smaller cakes...
Thank you for answering my question about your photo. I'd love to see the full size if you get the chance... What a beautiful mall that must be - and what a great photo op ;)

Why in the world would they discontinue such an amazing item. I'm sure it was ordered for lots of occasions...:sad2: It's just so AKL-themed that I would have ordered it if it had been offered when I was asking about the cakes. IMO it's much better than a cake (but then, I dont have much of a sweet tooth).

IPO confirmed they no longer offer the Inbada. :sad2: Like all of you, it totally beats me why they would discontinue it. It is SO AKL and from what I've been reading it was popular. Who knows....... Anyhow, we're going to stick with the chocolate pot-thing with fruits and truffles. We'll just see how that comes out. :) I actually did check out the cake thread. I'm just a bit worried that for the 2 of us, it'll still be on the big side. I would hate to waste it. At least fruit will always go down and truffles should hold a bit longer when using the fridge. We'll see.

It was a typical Portugese mall in that part of the Algarve; focus on art and architecture and all kinds of weird small shops. Love browsing around those. Let's see if I can upload the pic.

I just read a trip report where someone ordered a small, small cake, like cupcake size with tons of icing so two people could eat it. She said it was said to be a single serving cake... that could work to celebrate the birthday..

I know. It's too bad when good stuff gets discontinued. It bums me out... the special touches are what make WDW so, well, special :wizard:

[THANK YOU for showing us your lovely photo. I love the stone/tile floor, the paintings - and the man with his cane. What a great shot! :flower3:

I'm sorry about the Indaba :guilty: Now I feel badly for bringing it up :confused: But I'm glad we all got the head's-up from momatater. The chocolate pot sounds interesting. Will you take a photo to share??

Susan; why have cake when you can have chocolate? ;) No seriously; I'm very content with the option they offered. I don't need a cake to celebrate (actually never ever eat cake, except for choc. cake when in the States, so I'm used to birthdays without cake) and this sounds like a fun new way to kick of my 30st.

Johnsonet; don't be sorry! I loved seeing the picture. It's too bad they discountinued it, but that doesn't mean I didn't thouroughly enjoyed the picture. I'll definately be taking pictures of "the pot", just have to find some time after the trip to upload it.

I love the old guy also. We found them all over. Every time I look at the picture, it makes me smile. If you like the floorwork, you should visit the Algarve one day. There were villages where the center was full of buildings with mosaic works on them from top to bottom, in all kinds of lovely colours. I kicked myself SO hard for not bringing along my camera during that roadtrip. It was like driving around in a fairy tale book or something. Lovely! The floor actually reminds me of home, now I look at it. We've got those small tiles all over, especially in the center of towns.

What is the "chocolate pot thing with fruits and truffles?"

Just curious...:rolleyes1

IPO gave it to me as one of the options through in room dining. They described it as;
The other is a chocolate coco pod filled with 5 off our assorted truffles and there is a chocolate logo ribbon and fresh fruit on the tray as well. This is $30.

I've seen pictures on the DIS of the truffles themselves, not of any chocolate ribbon, nor of this AKL box, nor of the combination with the pot and fruit. So, I'm going to guess it's new and perhaps in place of the old Indaba. The truffels I've seen looked nice, so we'll just see. They are supposed to be African inspired truffles. Whatever it means and is, we'll find out on september 20th. :thumbsup2

Another option that was mentioned was;
The first is 3 of our specialty small zebra domes and a chocolate logo ribbon. That is $20

Looking at the in room dining menu (which we have by now found to be outdated), it seems like it's a cheaper per piece price than the option of having a zebra dome as a dessert, which is $7,49. Which makes you wonder if these zebra domes are smaller and/or if that chocolate logo ribbon thingie is small. Don't think Disney would lower their prices. :rotfl2:

Anyone know if they'll let the AKL guests try out the new pool at Kidani? We'll be there from April 25-May 2, and I assume it will be completed that week and ready to go. I was hoping they might let us over for a peek and a swim???

what do we need to bring to make coffee? just the grounds, or filters too?

coffee is provided. As far as I know the ground coffee is already within in a filter. So if you want to use your own coffee, you need to bring filters as well.
