Yes! The ZD's were out nightly the 4 nights we were there! The pineapple cakes are the little white cakes - delicious! :)

And there were also some fresh (and I mean warm-right-out-of-the-oven) cookies every afternoon; and I believe they made some in the evening too (but my mind is foggy!)

This is a picture from April (I don't have the July ones uploaded yet):

the white cakes on the left are the pineapple-upside-down cakes. They are moist and delicious; and there is a thin layer of white chocolate on the bottom of them. :goodvibes

Hi, posted this question in another thread about AKL but nobody seemed to know the answer.

I just booked AKL for December 2009, CL with a savannah view. :cool1: Now, at the time I booked, I was told there was either a standard (pool) view on CL, or the savannah view, which was a little extra, and what I chose.

But several people on the boards have now said all CL rooms are Savannah? Wondering exactly what I was charged "extra" for then?

Anybody know? :confused3

Mmmmmm......that looks wonderful :cool1: :cool1:

It's usually up a week or two after Haloween. Pretty much ALWAYS by the week before Thanksgiving the entire resort is decorated.

That early? Cool, then we may get to see some of the decorations during our Veteran's Day weekend stay.

Really? My understanding is that after AKV took over the 5th and 6th floors, all of the AKL CL rooms became savannah view.

That was my understanding about the rooms, too. Now, someone told me they probably quoted me a villa...but I didn't ASK for that. I mean, no complaints there if I got one. But when I called back (for the AAA discount) and asked about the beds, they told me two queen beds. I thought the studio villas had one queen bed, and a pullout sofa. So that lends me to think it's not a villa.

I am really, really confused here! I may just have to call and get my answer.

I booked a AKL CL room for next July and the person I spoke too did say that all concierge rooms were savannah view now,so I hope that is correct.

we are booked at AKL CL this Dec and we we also told by CM that all CL room are savannah views (as well as by several Disers here):thumbsup2

It could just be that the CM was misinformed. I was told that all CL rooms are now 4th floor guaranteed Arusha Savannah view, both by the CM at CRO and by Don at AKL IPO. If you have any doubt, I would call the AKL IPO office and talk to one of the nice CMs there. They are very helpful and much more knowledgable about the rooms at AKL than the CMs in the reservation office.

When I read your post, I also thought that the CM had booked you at AKV, but now my guess is that that CM didn't know about the room changes at AKL.:)

Subbing!!!! Just entered the early planning stages for a AKV vacation next july!

Odd.

There have been multiple configurations of CL hotel rooms over the life of the lodge.

First, they were all on the 5th and 6th floor, and the views varried...They were "deluxe" rooms (larger than standard).

Then, when DVC first started construction, and the rooms moved down to 4, they were MOSTLY savanna view, with a smattering of smoking rooms around the pool.

THEN, when the smoking policy changed, there was a "room exchange", and they changed ALL the CL rooms to savanna view. As far as I know, that's the state things are in, today....unless something has changed (again). I wonder if the CM was just unfamiliar with all the changes that have gone on....but I do wonder about the "extra" charge. That would bug me.

I was there 2 weeks after halloween one year, and the tree was up (November 14th, 2004). They said it had been up for "about a week". The rest of the decorations appeared over the next few days, and the resort SEEMED to be decorated entirely when I left that Friday (the 19th).

I've seen pictures and trippies from "around" that time, going back a few years, that would indicate that seems to be the time frame, too....you're probably going right AROUND the time I would expect them to start appearing.

Now, here's the caveat: Thanksgiving seems to fall a little "later" on the calender this year, by a few days, so I suppose (since I think the goal is to get everything decorated by Thanksgiving) there's a shot you might JUST miss it.

Cool we may have a chance! If it ends up that they start later this year due to the late Thanksgiving, that's OK. We aren't going for the Christmas decorations but it would be a nice bonus.

Forgive me if this has been covered before . . . .

We're heading to the AKL for dinner one evening and I was wondering if we would be able to take some pre-dinner cocktails from Victoria Falls lounge with us while we walked around the Arusha Rock viewing area?

Not that I need alcohol to enjoy wildlife, I swear! :drinking1

Hi everyone -- I have a quick question:

Is the Mara open 24 hrs, or does it close? If it closes, does anyone know what time? If they are open, is their full menu available or is it a partial one?

Thanks for the help!

We generally get in so late at night that it's hard to find food (other than room service) and it would be great to know what is available. We tend to arrive quite hungry, too, since the airlines wont feed us anymore!:)

Mara does close, I think usually around 11.
