OK, I have a question and I'd appreciate some imput.
We'll be at the Grand in a GV room in a few weeks (Yay!), and I'm trying to figure out how to word my room request without being a pain. Here's what would be ideal....I'd love a 2nd or 3rd floor room, in Sago Cay, facing Sugar Loaf and Conch Key(ie:the marina side). Is it too specific to ask for that?
The only thing I wouldn't be ok with is to be on the opposite side of Sago, facing the monorail, or on the first floor in any of the buildings. Any advice on how to succinctly word that? I would really be fine in most GV rooms in any building, but if I had my choice, I'd pick that view in Sago. I'm actually more firm about my not wanting to be on the monorail side of Sago or on the first floor in any of the buildings.

The marina view IS considered a garden view room. If I were you, Scott MC, I'd list things like this: upper floor, marina view, Sago Cay. You want to list whatever is most important to you first, then second most important next, and so on. If you absolutely do not want a first floor room, I'd put that first; then ask for the view you would like; building last, as it doesn't seem your first priority. And keep in mind that you can call the front desk and ask to be moved, if you get something you just do not want.

Totally agree! Marina view falls under garden view.

Last June I requested "Marina view, top floor" and we received an upgrade to Lagoon View, dormer room in Big Pine Key.

I wouldn't mention that you don't want to see the monorail (which I can't understand why?) because you can see the monorail from all views. Even though we were facing the Poly, we still saw the monorail. I would list your two top requests. Personally, I never request a certain building. I was told once that if you do, you can miss out on an upgrade. The view is more important to me than the building.

Brook: That would be real interesting if they use the water saw in the lobby. Can you imagine how LOUD that would be!!!

I agree, too. Our last stay, my one and only request was a view of the marina. Sure enough we were assigned courtyard view in Boca Chica. I asked at the desk about our location and then asked the CM is there were any rooms with a view of the marina available. I think he thought I was asking for an upgrade. Anyway, he was able to switch us to Sago Cay on the marina side.

Brook, have you considered lunch at Chefs instead of dinner if you have an Epcot morning planned. That way you would not need to drag everyone back over. We much prefer lunch at Chefs anyway. We did see Remy and possibly on the first day he was there...it hadn't hit the boards yet at any rate. So it was a total surprise. Our area was the first one he came to and it was so funny. Gasps and then laughter. It was great.

No can do. We have Biergarten and Les Celliers and rose and crown on our Epcot days..... all of the family voted on those places

I wanted Cali grill on another night but I was outvoted instead we are eating at GF cafe
The 3 turkeys who are going with me do not want to get dressed for dinner ~ they would be happy with CS the entire week

France was outvoted when we were making our plans but I snuck it in there anyway DD wants to see Remy but not at the expense of extra pool time (how my lovely DH presented it to her...)

My family and I will be staying in Sugarloaf in August. I've stayed there once before,but can't remember which room we were in. Does anyone have any favorites in that building? Which rooms have you been pleased with and why? Thanks!

we were in 6223 which faced the marina, very quiet even during the maintenance work that was going on (although we did not open the windows/door much given the heat) loved Sugarloaf, i know you will have a great time! my only regret is that we did not get to spend enough time just hanging out at the GF but we will just have to go back!

Suzcruz---Thanks for the recommendation. I will try to request that room. I am so excited about our trip. Today I discovered an offer for 35% off deluxe club level rooms, so I was able to rebook our GF Sugarloaf room for over $100 less per night!

that is a great deal! all of the rooms on that side of the building are nice. the concierge Robert is really helpful if you need any help while there (actually all the concierges were very nice). one of them walked my DD and her BFF to the movie on the beach when we were late to an adult only dinner. also remember that you can check out DVDs for both kids and parents from the concierges, my DD really liked watching them after a long day in the parks! i know you will have a great time!

That side doesn't face the marina so I would hope no one would consider it marina view.

Brooke, probably the fastest, most direct route will be a taxi to the Yatch Club, then walk over to the International entrance and France is right there.

Take that cab to the Beach Club, walk directly out the back of the lobby and make a left at the beach.

Thanks! This is our first RPC stay as well and we are really excited. I do think the BC would be closer/less of a walk than YC.
I am just not sure how much time to allow for travel. Our dinner is for 5pm so I am thinking of getting the cab at 4pm?! should I try for 3:30 instead?!

Do not get that cab later than 4pm. While there are usually cabs waiting there is a chance you could wait 5 to 10 minutes for one. add in 10 minutes at least to get to the Beach Club, then 10-15 min to get to France and you want to check in early for your dinner.

I agree BCV23, keeping it simple is the best way to get what you want.
I had friends who also kept it simple and only asked for a marina view. They had booked three regular rooms and all were upgraded to SugarLoad facing the marina.

Got to talk to an acquaintance who finally got to stay at the GF thanks to the 7 for 4 deal. I love that Disney does promotions like that and gives so many people a chance to stay at the Grand.

Does anyone have any good pics of the view from a garden view room? We might have to downgrade from our MK view and I'm really concerned about what we'll end up with. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, as well. btw, we will be traveling with ds 3 1/2.

The rooms were renovated in 2007 I believe. In my post above you can see a little of the rooms we were in at the Royal Palm Club(main building), although they are after turn down service.
