Hello

I am hoping I can get some help from all you. I have my First trip planner for Jan 29th- Feb 13th 2010. We are staying 10 day at a house and have decided to stay 5 days on the resort. I booked at the contemporary because we have a Little 4 year old girl and want to be close to MK. I was able to get all my reservations and I was all excited but now I am officially doubting myself. Her is my dilemma:

We have a Garden Wing Room. I have read in all these forms that they are like 5 minute walking distance to the tower, then another 5 minutes to the Monorail, Chef Mickey's and Stores. One Pro is does have is being close to the Pool. But honestly, we probably won't be in the pool that much since we are staying on the resort just to enjoy the Parks and the experience.( plus the house we would have had for the 10 days has its own pool and we might be water logged..hahaha) Anyways, my questions to you are:

1.) Is the garden rooms really that inconvenient?

2.) If we decided to upgrade to the tower, what type of room is best without breaking the budget?

3.) what room types and numbers did you all stay at and how did you like it?

4.) if we stayed in the tower, what rooms are not to noisy?? any ideas?

Thank you all with any help you can offer. I hope after we have this vacation I will be able to help others out too..

Thanks Again

Nicole

For those of you who have gotten the monorail dessert before...

was it worth it for you? Did you look at it and think :cheer2: or :headache:?

DH's birthday is on Thanksgiving, and we will be eating at Teppan Edo that evening. We are on the dining plan, so everyone in our group will have a dessert. I'm sure that the desserts at Teppan Edo are delicious, but they are somewhat limited. I am considering bringing a bottle of champagne and ordering a chocolate monorail to enjoy during Wishes. We will have 8 people, so it really would just be a bite for everyone.

Would my $40 be better spent on a beautiful cake? Or is the cool factor of the monorail that great?

Opinions, please~ :listen:

I can't answer the last three questions but having stayed in the garden wing, i would never say they are inconvenient. I shared your concern before I went, but the concern was groundless. We had the room furthest from the tower and the walking distance was never an issue.

I agree that the Garden wing was not inconvenient. I wouldn't say it was a 5min walk to the tower, either. However, I've never stayed in a tower room, so I can't compare the two.

We stayed about 1/2 way down the garden wing, room 5242. It was a 2nd floor room, which was fine as it was July and we wouldn't have spent time on the balcony much anyway.

The monorail dessert--It was good, but not fabulous. I got it for DH in place of a bday cake. IMO, ordering a bday cake was a huge PITA, so I went with this. Plus, there's no way the 4 of us were going to eat a whole cake, and any cake, aside from a podium cake (that you order at the restaurant's podium), was waaay more than $40. I am not a huge fan of white chocolate. I like real chocolate. My DH and kids loved it, though, and the truffles served with it were very yummy. It was more of a novelty thing for us.

Each time I have walked towards the Garden Wing building it took 5 minutes or less both ways, which is not bad at all.

The least expensive rooms in the Tower is the Bay Lake View, because they are always $40.00 less then what the Magic Kingdom View costs.

Well if you get an odd numbered room in a Bay Lake View your beds would be able to see Epcot way in the distance.

If noise is a factor request a room away from Chef Mickey's on the opposite side.

Our reservation got cancelled by the system and then rebooked. We only received half our magical express vouchers. Two people were left off because of the cancellation. Anyway Disney lost our room request and I can't remember.....Which rooms have beds that face the castle ? ODD numbered? I ask for as high as I can get? Oh, we booked MK View room.

Thank you

Getting so excited!!!!!!

It's great to hear you were able to get your reservation back and it's the odd numbered rooms where the beds face the Magic Kingdom.

I have a 8:05am Norway Breakfast ADR. How will we be able to get there? Do the monorails operate that early? The park opens at 9am that day. :confused3

The monorails start operation earlier than that. I want to say 7am but I'm not 100% sure of the exact time.

I believe operation begins about 1 hour prior to park opening for the Epcot/MK monorails.

Intercot has a nice WDW transportation schedule posted, but morning hours aren't listed:

Monorail transportation is available between Transportation & Ticket Center, Magic Kingdom, and Epcot until 1½ hours after each park closes. Service to the resorts is available until 11PM or two hours after Magic Kingdom closes, whichever is later.

I know that the monorails start running about 7-7:15am. If that's not early enough then you might want to look into bussing over. A taxi of any kind is going to put you into some serious $ hurt. However, one also has to consider the fact that you have to change monorails at the TTC and then go over, get through both the bag and the ticket lines, then seriously haul some az to get back to Norway by then^^; If it were me, I might also look into a cab, although it'll probably put quite a ding in the wallet.

I got one in July. I was told I had to call 48 hrs ahead, but when I called, they told me no. So I called on the day I wanted it. Call Private Dining and tell them your room number nad time you want it. I had mine put in the room while we were out as a surprise for DH. He loved it. It's not chocolate, though--it's white. I think it was about $40?? (Of course I just tossed all my trip receipts.) I can't remember exactly, though.

I ordered one placed on top of a cake and it came painted (I don't know if it's because I ordered the cake a week in advance?). It was very cute but a little smaller than I expected.

Edited: As an FYI - if you break off the bottom "rail" (which someone in my group did accidently), the monorail itself is in 3 pieces - made it very easy to pack to bring home.

Hi there,

I stayed at the Poly last year and also had an 8:05am ressie in Norway on a day when Epcot opened at 9:00am. I can confirm, at least in April, the first monorail to Epcot out of the TTC was at 7:30. I was told by a few people it would be cutting it close but took my chance. We arrived at the TTC about 7:20, and the first monorail was NOT there right at 7:30. I'm not sure how long we waited, but I know we arrived at the gates of Epcot a little after 8:00, then had to wait in line so they could check that we did indeed have a ressie in Norway. I booked it across the park, and got to Norway at about 8:25, 20 mins late, and there was a huge line ahead so we checked in and waited to be seated. It was not a problem that we were late...I think this must happen often??? Regardless, if you can take a taxi over, it might be less stressful, but we still had a wonderful breakfast and enjoyed our ride over on the empty monorail :) It's a great breakfast...have a wonderful time!

Pools at the Contemporary/ BLT?

Can someone clear something up for me? Is there one pool area or two? I saw pictures on a trip report of the pool area (they stayed at BLT) and it looks great. Is this different from the regular pool area or are they one and the same? If they are different, can you use both if you are staying at the Cont. or BLT?

Thanks

At the Contemporary there is a main pool and there is also a smaller pool in the back. At Bay Lake Tower I believe they have just one pool. Finally Contemporary guests can not use the Bay Lake Tower pool, however if they want to Bay Lake Tower guests can swim at the Contemporary.

Thanks for the speedy response! That's too bad about not being able to use the BLT pool area. My children were very excited about the slide. Not that it would make or break our trip, of course, it just looks really cool. :smooth:

You're welcome and I believe the main reason for not being allowed to use their pool is a size issue, because it's that big and the total number of pool chairs they have out.

Don't forget the regular pool area also has a nice slide at the main pool. :yay:
