~*~The After-Twilight Bookclub!!!~*~

i've been seeing commercials for the movie "the Lovely Bones" it looks sad.

DID ANYBODY READ VAMPIRE DIARIES? The TV series was good the first few episodes (as it reminded me of Edward and gave me my Twilight fix but then NO THANK YOU. Lame, lame, lame and violent.

I tried to read the first one, and really tried to like it. I couldn't finish it. I donated it to the library because I knew I'd never try to read it again. lol

I read the 4th Immortals after Dark book in record time! Half a day!:lmao: I think Kresley Cole is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors!:thumbsup2

I think I'll hold off reading The Lovely Bones till after Xmas.

OK I NEED SOME HELP FROM YOU LADIES!

I want to get some books on CD for us to listen to in the car on our two-day drive to Cali. I need some suggestions.

As a family we are: Me, DH, DDB(13) and DDC(12)

Here are the types of books I have read and liked or that we, as a family, have already listened to:

Anasasi Boys (Neil Gaimen)
Graveyard Book (Neil Gaimen)

Mortal Insturment Series
Uglies Series

Harry Potter series

Any ideas based on this range? I'd love to try the Poison Study series but it is not out on CD.

Also, I hate depressing books.. lol

Thanks for any help!

:santa:

How about the Percy Jackson series? I believe the first one is the Lightening Thief. My DD(11) loved this series and read all the books in record time! She couldn't put them down. I plan on reading them too cause they sound so interesting. The movie is coming out soon too. It is a very popular series but it isn't just for kids.

Most of the books I read are not very family friendly.;)

Thanks! My DD13 is a ridiculously avid reader and has read basically every single book on the YA fantasy cart at the book store. BUT, that might be one she wouldn't mind revisiting. I am going to put it on hold today. :)

I've been home sick and with sick kids for the week, so I've finished off a few books. Spoilers possible.

"Kiss of Midnight" - I enjoyed this book a lot, but it was too much like a "Diet" Black Dagger Brotherhood. I knew that going in to reading it, because of the reviews. It was a really good book, but it just seemed like a second rate cousin to the BDB, which I thought was better. I'll probably read the next warrior's book.

"Covet" - I really like this book. It was a bit slow in the beginning, but really got interesting, but the beginning really set the stage for the ending revelations. Very cool how some "minor" characters show up in this book from the BDB. For those that haven't read the BDB, it stands alone, but it is nice knowing the backstory to "Trez," otherwise he just seems like another nice (yet somehow shady) guy. A couple parts felt forced (like Marie-Therese's stalker) but I could overlook it! I'll definitely continue reading this series when JR Ward gets them out. There must be at least 6 more, since it deals with the seven deadly sins!

"A Hunger Like No Other" - Uhhh. I wanted to like this book. I didn't like the characters, their behaviors and motives seemed to change at whim, with no real catalyst. Some things rubbed me the wrong way ("soul mate" or not, it was hard to read Emma getting excited when she's nearly raped and brutalized.) I didn't feel that enough attention was given to plot or character development. It was like, how fast can we get the two main characters in bed (or how many near misses can we have.) I honestly kept reading just to see if they finally did it.

So what's next??)

Desnik:

What are the books in the Lords of the Underworld series? I've looked on Amazon and that author has a lot of books and I'm not sure which are of the specific series and in what order. There is a Lords of the Underworld bundle for Kindle, but it doesn't how many books either. Thanks!

Sorry I didn't see this until now! Here is the order of the Lords of The Underworld series by Gena Showalter:

Prequel: The Darkest Fire (only on ebook format)
Book 1: The Darkest Night
Book 2: The Darkest Kiss
Book 3: The Darkest Pleasure
Book 3 and a half: The Darkest Prison (only on ebook format)
Book 4: The Darkest Whisper
Book 4 and a half: The Darkest Angel (short story in the book "Heart of Darkness" due out Jan. 1, 2010)
Book 5: The Darkest Passion (June 2010)
Book 6: The Darkest Lie (July 1, 2010)

In June 2010 the prequel and book #3 and a half will be released in a book called "Into the Dark" and it will also include bonus material.

Glad you liked Covet! As for a Hunger Like No Other, I really liked it. Did you read the 1st book in the series? It's a short story in the book "Playing Easy To Get" and I feel that you really need to read that first and this series(Immortals After Dark) is so much better when read in order. I am really enjoying them. However nothing is like the BDB, but I really love the Lords of the Underworld series and that comes pretty close for me.

So what to read next? Stick with Immortals After Dark, Lords of The Underworld and try Gena Showalter's Atlantis Series. That's what I'm reading now and it's pretty good.

I read The Lovely Bones and I hate to say I really didn't like it. At first it was really good and I was really into it and even cried. Then it just got slow for me. It went off in too many directions and I just couldn't stand the mother. I did finish it but really could've spent my time on something better. I really wanted to like this book too! Oh well, I will probably still go see the movie.

i just finished Dear John (which is now a movie who's preview was on before New Moon) and although it was a good book and I cried twice, it wasn't a better writing quality then some of the mediocre fanfiction i've read. it was written from John's POV and for a dude raised by a single dad who is an army guy, it was written as if he is a bit light in the loafers.

i'll still see the movie though as the lead actor is HOT!

I just got this amazing book called The Eternal Kiss. It's not a novel, but actually a whole bunch of short stories about vampires and love all written by famous YA authors including Libba Bray, Cassandra Clare and Holly Black. I'm about half-way through and have enjoyed all the stories I've read so far. So for any Twilight fan I recommend that you pick it up!

Interesting... I think I had that from the library and I never read it. Maybe I'll stick it back on my holds list.. then we can discuss it. Thanks for hte heads up!

The Eternal Kiss, I will add that to my "to read" list on goodreads. I have so many books to read on that list!!!

Desnik: How are you liking the Atlantis series?

Another reason for everyone to save for a Kindle: Book Bundles of series for under $10!!
I got the bundle of the Lords of the Underworld (4 books), and I'll probably order the Atlantis series bundle next (that is 5 books.) I love bundles!

I'm on book 3 of the Lords of the Underworld. I'm enjoying them. I wasn't sure what I was getting into with the prequel / short story, but I liked the first book (Maddox and Ashlyn) a lot.

I really like the Atlantis series! It is not as good as The Lords of the Underworld for me(for me that one is a close second to the Black Dagger Books), but still really good!

I also loved Ashlyn and Maddox, but I absolutely loved Lucien and Anya's story! Make sure you read the books in order and all the half books in between!:thumbsup2

I also really like the Demonica Series by Larissa Ione. So far there are 3 books in that series with a forth coming out at the end of the month.

I really love the Immortals After Dark Series too. As the series goes on it just gets better and better for me. I am anxiously awaiting the next book!

I finished reading The Eternal Kiss and I have to say my favorite story was the Libba Bray one, it was creepy and actually scary. Now I'm not sure what to read next, I have Tempted and After to finish, but I also feel like re-reading Breaking Dawn and City of Glass. I don't know what to do!

Anyone read any Christine Feehan books? Her name keeps popping up while I'm browsing on Amazon, but she has so many out I don't know where to begin.
