~*~The After-Twilight Bookclub!!!~*~

Okay seriously...
The Once and Future King by T.H. White- it is a book based on Arthurian legends no there aren't any vampires but there is angst and emotionally tortured and complex characters and wizards/witches. It is not a crazy sword battling or hard to understand book (it was written in 1958) and is romantic. Give it a try. Time suggested in to ease off of a letd own from HP!

Okay, I've read The House of Night Series, Vampire Diaries, Morganville Vampires Series, Vampire Academy Series, Night World #1, The Host, and that's all I can think of right now. I'm sure there are more, but can't remember them. I think out of all the one I listed, I like the Vampire Academy ones the best, then Morganville Vampires, House of Night, and the Vampire Academy series. Wasn't really that thrilled with the Night World, but might try reading the second in the series to see if it gets better.

Hi everyone! Thanks CP for another great thread! I also just joined the group on goodreads.com.

I have finished the Mortal Instruments series and loved it!

I think I am going to try the Black Dagger Series by J.R. Ward. Book 1 is called Dark Lover. Has anyone here read it?

:thumbsup2 I put it on my "to-read" list! Thanks!

I liked the House of Night better. The HoN has some really funny dialogue (for the first few books - then it gets old fast IMO) and some steamy (and yes, inappropriate) scenes in book 2. I love to laugh and right in the first book I was already laughing out loud, literally.

I didn't like the Vampire Academy as much due to the whole "we service them and they come first" but it seems as though that aspect is finally coming into play in the latest book. I almost quit reading after the first book but the second one was better for me due to the steaminess -And as far as inappropriate relationships.. OY! It makes me feel guilty but.... what can you do? I wonder how long it will be before the next one?

SPOILER IN WHITE: How do you guys justify the underage girl and her teacher relationship? Honestly, it's illegal and wrong and shouldn't really be pushed as something normal and legitamte but it sure is in these two books. I'm no saint... my teenage soul likes the "naughty" romance. But my inner old-lady screams NOT WITH MY DAUGHTER BUCKO! how do you guys feel about it?

***WHEN QUOTING/REPLYING TO SPOILERS IN WHITE PLEASE ERASE THE MESSAGE The reason why is because with some computers (mine) the "quoted" message is highlighted in a green background that makes the white text perfectly viewable. Thanks :goodvibes

Mine screams loudly!

Is Vampire Academy good at all? I've debated about picking them up...
Are they steamy? lol

:lmao: I know, right!? Have you read either series? But I am of the belief that alot of YA shouldn't be read by YA's! LOL - this coming from somebody who read "Flowers in the Attic" when they were a tween. *rollseyes - now that book was WRONG on so many, MANY levels.

I read a review of FitA on goodreads and I have not laughed so hard at the written word in months. It was all consumingly funny. If there are any Flowers in the Attic closet (attic?) readers you have to read this review.. it's a gas!!!

The review I'm talking about in the link above is done by David-I think he's the first reviewer. If you can't find it let me know and i'll cut/paste it here for you. It's really, REALLY, REALLLLLLLLY funny.

I thought it was readable- I enjoyed it well enough. Considering I have hated, quit, and really disliked most of the books I've read the past couple weeks, it's a GEM. Sarah (minieme) really liked it.

I really liked them. They weren't overly steamy, but did have their moments!

(Warning..there is a spoiler) TravelMel- I wasn't quite sure what to think about the whole student/teacher relation. I think being in a parent's position I'd say "NO WAY!!" But I dated a 28 year old when I was 20 and it didn't bother me..so I'm a little torn. It was wrong, but I still liked the story! I'm torn between the hotness and what's wrong and right!! LOL

I have that series on my list to read. I'm trying to save some for my vacation reading, but my list keeps growing! I may need to start now!!

This is definitely on my list.

Desnik,
I started the 1st in the BDB series last night. It's one of those fast talking, everybody curses, men are big/buff and sexy (read: borderline bodice ripper), strength and battle's rule, good/evil types of books so far. I'm not knocking it but it doesn't seem too original SO FAR. But alot of people like it! Maybe it'll grow on me.

MinnieMe and CP, try out the Patricia Briggs series of Mercy Thompson. My sister got them for me for my bday (except the 4th book which is in hardcover) and both she and I really liked them. Vampires and werewolves and the main character can shapeshift into a coyote. The first one is Moon Called.

Ooh I'll add that to my list!!

I read the first book and it was ok. There are a lot of fans on the series over on the Twilight thread. It wasn't really my cup of tea, but I thought I might try the second book next month. The "men" in the series are very rough around the edges and the story is dark. However, they are steamy and I appreciate that, lol. I think maybe I just didn't connect with the main male character in the first book, but I liked the other members of the brotherhood.

Thanks for the reviews! I think I will give it a try, if I can find it! I can't believe no book stores around me have it and the library has a long list of people waiting. I guess I will have to send DH to get it for me in the city. Poor thing, he keeps getting me my books that are all vampire romance stories!:lmao: He told me he makes sure the cashier knows it's not for him!:rotfl:

CP... UGLIES. Uglies, my friend... Uglies. Uglies, Pretties, and Specials by Scott Westerfeld. Don't read what it's about. Let it take you. It's good!

okay, i'm not CP, but i went and bought UGLIES today. i'll let you know how i like it.

I ordered a ton of books on amazon and then didn't complete the purchase because I'm trying to save money for Disney! Sigh, our library is all the way downtown.... I guess it's time to go through my bookshelves again. If anyone likes books with a bit of fantasy bent, one of my favorite series is Piers Anthony - Incarnations of Immortality.... the first one is On A Pale Horse. In it a guy accidentally kills the incarnation of Death which turns out to be a mortal person. He inherits the job and has to learn how to be Death. Turns out Mother Nature, Time, War, the Fates, etc are all offices filled by mortal people. I know, sounds weird, but they're good books.
