The Adventurers Club

If no one likes kids being in there, it should just be made a rule in DW. No kids allowed in AC! That's it!
If CMs complain that kids are there, they shouldn't because they technically 'are' allowed there. If no one likes it, the rule should change then.. I think anyway.
I have been there when kids were there and it was actually quite funny because the actors made fun of the parents. But everyone in the 'bar'/library loved those jokes.

When DH and I were at the AC in May, there was a couple with three children ages 4-8. Mom insisted that they have a table right up front so the kids could see. At one point, when the CM's were interacting with the crowd, they actually reminded some guest to keep their responses clean as there were children present. I did feel that it took away from my adult enjoyment of the show. Didn't seem to bother the couple with the kids though. :confused3

In fairness, they remind guests to keep it clean even when there are just adults present--it is Disney World! Same goes for Comedy Warehouse. No cursing, period.

I would reiterate that the early shows are pretty harmless. The first really "PG-13" material is probably the opening of the Balderdash Cup, around 9:20 or 9:30, followed by the Babylonia show at 9:30 or 9:45. (It scares me that I know the schedule by heart.) Some of the early Mask Room show jokes are a bit risque, but they go over the heads of most adults, let alone kids. :teeth:

Also, especially on slow nights, the CMs do welcome younger kids earlier in the evening, and have even been known to activate the yakoose for them. It's later on that the sly cracks start up.

While I personally wouldn't bring a child into the nightlife of PI, I do think that AC is probably the "safest" choice to bring a kid in. Keep in mind that there is still adult humor (though pretty mild) and there is drinking.

There is no way I am going to let my kids miss the AC on their 1st trip to disney!!! We have our itinerary set and are going to take them on Tuesday at 7:00 right when they open. I figure that should be about as slow a day/time as we will find. We can hang out for an hour or 2 and get out before the rowdy stuff starts. As far as not taking kids into bars, half of our favorite restaraunts around home have bars right in the main dining area. You wanna talk drunks? My kids and I do 4 paper routes at 3:30am Sunday mornings just off the college campus here - there is nothing at AC that will shock them! btw, they are 7 and 9 years old. Take the kids and have a great time, just don't plan on going on a fri or sat or staying to late if you want to avoid the drunks!

On our last trip, our boys were 13 and 15. We took them to the AC. Never gave it a second thought - everything written by Disney said it was appropriate for all ages - that's how they advertise it. Not as much as a second glance from anyone when my kids walked in. I don't think it appropriate to ask people to keep their kids out so that the jokes can get a little racier. If you're looking for "R" rated entertainment, why in the world would you come to a Disney club?!

We have been going to AC for many years and I have to admit that my husband and I liked it alot more when they did not allow kids ... it was an escape to an "adult" area of Disney (not that it was too racy or that there were tons of drunks it was just adults having a good "childfree" time.)
When they started allowing kids we took our daughters to an early show (they are 11/13, they love Monty Python and most britsh comedy so we thought they might like AC.) Well, the long and short of it was they hated it ... we do not take our kids to bars when we are not on vacation and they did not like nor feel confortable in a bar environment during vacation ... Wow ... I guess I should not complain about my teenager and pre-teenager not wanting to be in a bar (LOL.) When my daughters can legally drink (21) I would love to take them back to AC, if it is there and it is the same great club.

Are you sure it isn't a case of them just not wanting to to be in a bar at the same time you are? :teeth:

I don't go to PI as much since they allowed kids into the area. It detracts greately from the adult athmosphere. I always saw PI as a clean, fun and creative place to hang out and get away from the families that take over most of Orlando. I just don't like going to the other hang out places around Orlando. PI was perfect.

When I go to the AC I usually don't make it there until at least 9, seeing kids there past 9 or even 10 is odd since you know they probably should not be at a bar. Then there is the fact that CMs have to watch what they say often makes the show duller. Part of what makes the show funny sometimes is thinking "I can't believe I'm hearing these innuendos at Disney!"

:thumbsup2 I've been to WDW about 15 times (started when my 13yo was 3), and this past May was the first time we went to AC. We loved it! It was me, my three children (13, 9, & 8), another couple, and their 14yo son. We got there at 7:00 and left at 9:00. There were many kids there at the time we were. I would not keep them there later, though.

While all you Adventure Clubbers are in one place, I am curious about the cost. If I want to stop by and check it out, I have to pay the $22 Pleasure Island fee per person?? That sounds steep for a cover charge for one bar. Is it really worth all that?

(I have to apologize, I have tried to log out with my DD's name but can't)

We found AC 12 years ago. Our children were 7 and 9 at that time. We never rec'd any odd looks and we weren't treated differently from the "members". We have gone several times over the years and the kids have always looked forward to their night at the AC. And yes, we were there till closing. I have to say our kids were treated very well by the "members", they would even sit down next to them and carry on conversations!

The first time we went, we were all dressed in matching Denver Bronco jackets. Well, after the last show with the maid, the maid was looking for the "Colorado Bobsled Team"! We got a great picture with her.

I'm sorry so many of you think this is not a place for children. As this has been a highlight of our trips for our kids. DH doesn't like attention brought to us, but he has fun when we wear matching jackets, it never fails, some "member" will point us out and come up with some joke.

My DD will become a cast member in August. We'll be visiting her in December and we're looking forward to visiting the AC a couple of times. And unless children are running around and being unruly, I don't mind them being there. JMHO

I took my then 17yo DD to AC last December. I had been there the previous year with my oldest and thought it would be a fun mother-daughter thing to do. I was mortified by the end of the evening. We were both hit on by smarmy drunks and we had to keep reminding men that she was underage and I was married. The last holiday show in the library basically turned into a strip performance with one of the characters (can't remember which now) pulling up a chair right in front of DD, spreading his legs and basically begging the intoxicated audience member simulating the strip for a lap dance (he also kept wiping his mouth in a disgusting fashion). It was horrifying and I will not return to AC because of it. It was completely out of control (and the actors/CMs played it UP rather than down as they should have with minors in the audience). When we left, DD looked at me and said, "I can't believe you took me there." :(

Granted, it was likely an isolated incident, but it goes to show that it IS a bar, it is ADULT entertainment and it CAN get out of control. Walt was spinning in his grave faster than teacups.

I also have taken my children to the AC. I don't remember a time when children were not allowed in PI??? My girls loved to go and watch the line dancing at the original country place. Can't remember the name, it was down by the West End Stage before they moved it to the far end and then it was the Wild Horse Saloon. My DD will be going in 3 weeks when we go back of course she will be with her DH and is now one of the "Adults" at 24. There are some clubs where you must be 21 to enter and adults who wish to escape the child like atmosphere of Disney can go there for a kid free evening.

I was posting at the same time as the above poster and had to edit to add...In all the times I have been to AC I have never witnessed the above behavior. I would not have taken my children back if that had been the normal "show"! Maybe someone had a bad night. Would love to know if it has ever happened again.

The first time I went to AC was when I was 13, and I probably enjoyed it a lot more than the last time I went as an adult!

However we did leave fairly early - and I wish all parents would take their children out early, because as other people say, the show is much more toned down and IMO less humerous when there are children present. I think the real hardcore members go for the later shows too (we will be) so it would be nice to be able to relax a bit more, leave the kids at the hotel and really be able to enjoy ourselves...

I will be going there on my birthday this year so it would be nice to have a full show so to speak! We will be going later on (10pm or roundabout) because by that time I would imagine most of the younger kids would have gone.

I won't be taking my DD but she is only a toddler ;) I won't be taking her until she is at least 13 either, and we will be gone by 10pm out of courtesy for the other patrons.

I almost forgot I even posted this :confused3

But what great responses! I guess I am left dangling as to which way to go. I would definitely go early and be out by 9. But now I feel as though we truly wouldnt be "welcome". Up to this point, I assumed kids werent a problem at AC. I understand other patrons getting "away" from the kids here but it sounds like PI should be totally off limits to those under 21.

So DW and I will discuss this further and not make the mistake of just thinking its OK to take our kids in there. Thanks for all the replies.

Your kids would be welcome! Don't worry about that, it is still Disney after all!!

It's just slightly later on that people (myself included) may get a little funny about it! :)

Go and have fun - just go on a week night and be out early. It's a great place and like an earlier poster said - there are some clubs that you HAVE to be 21 to enter - AC is not one of them. Which tells you kids are fine!!

You can pay $10 and have access to one club, but that ticket does NOT allow entry to the AC or the Comedy Warehouse (and maybe one more.) So you'd need to buy the All Access Pass for $22 which will then give you access to ALL the clubs including the AC.

For a while they had an offer which allowed you to extend your pass to 5 days for $5 more, not sure if they still have it.

It can also be one of you "Plus" features on the MYW ticket.

Or if you plan on visiting often, I believe they have a PI annual pass for about $99 but don't quote me on this.

Thanks, David. Maybe I should think about upgrading my MYW ticket! And get a babysitter! ;)
