The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

JIKO as part of our Wanyama Tour. That's scheduled for Monday, October 17th.

That's a great way to go!

I've been to Jiko once and I LOVED it.

I've been to Jiko three times, and after we had been there that many times, Fran finally told me that she didn't like it at all. :sad2:

As part of the Wanyama Safari, a family style dinner was included with our meal.

These are six year old pictures (we did it in 2010), but at least it gives you an idea of what they served back then.

Bread Sampler

Appetizers

Entrees (BTW these were split 4 ways, as we took my parents and we had our own table apart from the other safari folks)

Dessert plate

Planning on going hungry. I'm no fool.

Smart!

French Onion Soup - Also available without cheese and crouton. $5.69

What is the point then? :confused3 The soup is merely a delivery vehicle for cheese and crouton!

Ummm.... GEECHIE BOY GRITS??!!

First of all, WTH is a Geechie?

It's a Brand name, they are located in South Carolina and evidently farm organically and have been in business for sometime. It's family owned and many high end restaurants use their products. In addition to grits they make cornmeal and other types of grain products.

I mean, seriously... doesn't everyone want to eat LARDO?!

So I had to google this one too and here's what Wikipedia gave me. "Lardo is a type of salumi made by curing strips of fatback with rosemary and other herbs and spices."

We plan to meet and hang out in the Norway Pavilion around 6:00/6:30 (right @Poolrat ?) and get/bring food to your own liking. We might wander? Or just stay put and sip or???

I'll probably show up fed, but will be up for beverages.

Who knows... and it wouldn't surprise me, we may take a dip into the The Ditch, because they serve up a rather mighty fine marg.

See?

I would not be opposed to this plan.

Pssssst... they have food too...

I could be very happy with the queso and some chips, and of course a margarita!

It was a VERY last minute decision to add Boma for our Farewell to Disney.

I'm glad you are having one nice meal before you leave. This is another one that Fran was not fond of, so I doubt we will be going back. :sad2:

That, my friends, wraps up the series of Food Dreams.

You have some very nice plans for your food dreams!

So, a few changes... mostly because I'm dense.

Among other things, the 2 tours I've scheduled were additions I failed to add before Microsoft cut me off. Jerks.

:lmao:

I've been to Jiko once and I LOVED it.

Haven't been there. Would like to give this one a try... by myself (see why, later on...)

Braai Broodjie - millet flatbread, apricot chutney, manchego and midnight moon cheese, charred red wine onions, and local heirloom tomatoes $13

Wow, that sounds good!

1. I think he was the chef?? Anyway he does that thing they do on Iron Chef where he comes out and explains whats about to come out for appetizer, entree and dessert.

I love that. Went to one place where they did that.

2. You need to go to this thing hungry. They brought out a lot of food. It was so you can taste everything. They brought out 1 of each thing per person. Im talking a steak, a chicken, a fish, a pig for the entree. Im talking 1 serving of each appetizer the brought out which was I think 3 or 4. They brought out a serving of each dessert (the only time I was happy that the portions were smaller but not particularly small).

Sounds like a ton of food!

Planning on going hungry. I'm no fool.

That sounds like good thinking.... we'll see though. All that food over several days adds up, even if you skip breakfast.

Not gonna lie, We'll probably be still bloated from the night before.

bloated_beauties_by_randomguy1001-d4bm05o.jpg

I heard that there is a Pantsless Prince I need to lay eyes on and that he hangs out at Beast's castle. I also heard that he's quite particular at who gets to see him- he kinda makes his appearance for only lucky guests who call for an appointment WAY ahead of time. And even then, maybe not.

::yes:: I wonder if this will start to ease off. It's been around for a little while now.

French Onion Soup - Also available without cheese and crouton. $5.69

I really liked the French onion soup there. Hopefully you'll enjoy it too.

The kids will have to figure something out to do (I know it'll be terribly difficult at Disney World)

They're probably just itching to do something on their own.

while we steal away to the Wilderness Lodge for a romantic dinner for 2.

Nice.

Half Roast Chicken - Geechie boy grits, collards, favas, okra, sweety drop peppers, jus $33

Ummm.... GEECHIE BOY GRITS??!!

:rotfl: That's what I thought!

Secondly, are there GIRL grits too? These are the things that keep me awake at night.

:lmao:

foraged oyster mushrooms

Okay, even before I read the next line, I immediately thought "Foraged? Do the 7 dwarves do that when they're not mining??"

WHO forages these mushrooms? Is this a highly specialized Cast Member job?

see above.

Wanted: Forager needed to scour remote, wooded landscapes for the elusive oyster mushroom. Foraging experience required. Benfits package offered; apply online. Will check references.

sounds legit.

And I confess, we don't regularly press our own nasturtium oil. (We've eaten nasturtium many times, but...) Who knew you could use them for oil!

I've never heard of nasturtium. oily or dry.

I mean, seriously... doesn't everyone want to eat LARDO?! (Can you see my rolling on the floor dying from laughing so hard?)

Um....

That reminds me of when we lived in Churchill, MB (polar bear capitol of the world, don'tcha know.)
I think maybe I was going to make a pie or something, don't remember, but I needed some lard. I had never purchased lard before so didn't know where to find it in the store. Now the Northern Store in Churchill is a combination grocery store, clothing store, hardware store. I thought lard would be kept near the butter in the dairy section. Couldn't find it. Finally I asked someone who worked there. "Do you have any lard?" He looked at me like I was nuts. "Do we have any lard? Follow me." He brought me to another area.... There were buckets of lard. Big buckets. An entire shelf filled with varying sizes of lard. Maybe when you were a kid you heard how Eskimos eat whale blubber? Well, the Inuit (the proper name for Eskimo) do eat blubber. They also eat a lot of things raw, too. And they buy tons of lard and eat that too. Interesting diet.

The evening, as you know, is reserved for DISMeets galore! We have a growing list of peeps

We don't bite.

You're taking the fun out of it.

and are probably a lot like you.

I highly doubt that.

(Read that any way you want.)

Go ahead and take one more stab at guessing where we'll be eating on our last morning. You can do it....

Okay.... Boma!

Darn!

It was a VERY last minute decision to add Boma for our Farewell to Disney.

But... but.... you said....

So confused.

As for food. There's enough here to make even the most mundane and un-imaginitive palate happy,

Uh, huh. Tell that to the rest of my family. We went to Boma. I tried a bunch of things. Some I liked, some I didn't.
What did the other three have? Nothing but mac 'n' cheese. :sad2:

I hope I can live up to all the enthusiasm.

Of that, I have no doubt.

More than twice as big as both my boys.

::yes::

Uh oh... not tasty?

Not.
I was the only one in the place. I didn't hear anything except for the microwaving that was going on in the kitchen. And lots of it.
Microwaved bacon or warmed up in the mike. Same with the chili I'm guessing.
Tasted like crap.

Now, you can say NO without guilt.

I have until next year to recover. It's all good.

I don't know. Let me know if you find out.

Well, today's my third day off in a row. And I only worked all three of them!
(Yes. At work right now.)

It was a dark bar. Obviously, he couldn't see worth a crap.

:lmao:

I was in a professional get-up. No grease, thanks. You know my nickname's Pigpen, right?

I do now!

Noooo, it's not like you're NOT doing stuff; it's just DIFFERENT stuff. I mean, just not always rushing to the next ride just for the sake of riding it. But finding those little hidden gems everyone else just cruises on by. The theming and visual puns thrown all over the parks. Admiring the authentic mosaics laid tile by tile in the castle and over at The Land; there's art EVERYWHERE; watching the Flag Lowering Ceremony... stuff like that.

::yes:: I'd love to go to WDW and not ride a single thing.
I think I could do that in Epcot (but would like to try the new Soarin' when it comes out.) And maybe, possibly AK (but... but... EE!) But I doubt I could do that in DHS (RNRC & TOT) and definitely couldn't in MK (HM, BTMRR, PP)
But after those few rides? Yeah, I would love to just sashay about and take it all in.

I have had lardo. It is very tasty. It is like only the fatty part of a prosciutto without the meaty part. It is cut very thinly and has an excellent taste! But it is very fatty obviously.

ETA: I reread Liesa's post and it says "lardo toast" and it is mentioned besides the charcuterie. I could imagine that they take some lardo and put it in a pan so that all the fat melty out of the lardo and then they fry some bread in the liquid lardo fat.

We have a much plainer German version of the same thing and my mother would make croutons that way. The crispy remains of the rest lardo are pretty delicious, too!

I was thinking the SAME thing....:rotfl2:
Smoked Portobello Bisque
small_gold_star.png
- foraged oyster mushrooms, nasturtium oil, fines herbes $10

Nasturium.....
press our own nasturtium oil.
Just sounds UM nasty....

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

We plan to meet and hang out in the Norway Pavilion around 6:00/6:30 (right @Poolrat ?)

Sure thing!!!!!! :thumbsup2

Never heard of it. :confused3 Ah the high end restaurant thing is probably why. :rotfl2:

Awesome!!!

Works for me. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS. SWEAR IT'S TRUE AND NO LIE. My nursey squad went out for a couple today after group work and.... oh my gosh... hold onto your hat there, Sir....

I WAS CARDED!
Carded? :sad2: You sure you don't mean measured? As in.....you must be THIS tall to get in............. :rolleyes1

We plan to meet and hang out in the Norway Pavilion around 6:00/6:30 (right @Poolrat ?) and get/bring food to your own liking. We might wander? Or just stay put and sip or??? Marv has offered to be a food runner for tips. Bring dollar bills. ( @GoofyFan1515 ) Dinner for us, anyway, will be either more F&W stuff or something from the Taco Bell in Mexico. Who knows... and it wouldn't surprise me, we may take a dip into the The Ditch, because they serve up a rather mighty fine marg.
I think I said runner for drinks. I would probably be too busy getting food to have any time to enjoy the get-together myself........ And of COURSE there will be a dip into The Ditch. One last chance to snag another Horchata Margarita!!! :drinking1 :woohoo:

I will get to replies soon, perhaps Thusday, but the next few days will be very busy!

Monday I'll be with my Case Study Group practicing and then TUESDAY MORNING we present. It's an hour long of something that resembles a thesis defense with an oral presentation, multi-media PPT/video production we made, Q&A from the Instructors and/ or peers, and written reviews.

Wednesday I have to sit through several more, then lead a dress rehearsal for Pinning. Thursday I'll be doing work for Pinning and Friday I'll be busy with Pinning which is at 6:00.

The end is near. Or is it really just the Beginning...?

Regardless, please, if you're the praying type, remember me and my classmates as we present our Capstone Projects; we are all pretty nervous.

I'll have some photos of our Ceremony to share. It's quite a solemn affair as we take our Nursing Pledge.

Big project. Good luck!

Nah. Not busy at all.

The end is near. Or is it really just the Beginning...?

The end of a very long and difficult journey and the beginning of a wonderful and rewarding one.

Regardless, please, if you're the praying type, remember me and my classmates as we present our Capstone Projects; we are all pretty nervous.

Nervous? I'm not. I know you got this.

I'll have some photos of our Ceremony to share. It's quite a solemn affair as we take our Nursing Pledge.

Looking forward to that. I really am. I feel like I've been with you on this journey and would like to see its culmination.

For those of you not on FB with me:

"The good news is that my tailbone isn't broken; the bad news is that when I say that Nursing School was a pain in the butt I'm not lying and came just short of busting my ashtray. Next step is to see a physiologist and explore injections."

The long(er) story:

For about 2 or more months, my tailbone has really been bothering me. Just sort of day by day getting more and more sore. Early last week, it started to get exponentially worse to the point late last week that I can really only barely sit on it. Driving is VERY painful and I have to do this sort of butt-shuffle while cruising (#HelloFromTheOtherSide). Luckily, I'm pretty sure that most people think I'm just hip-hopping to my tunes. The few others probably think the coffee has "percolated" and my teeny-weeny bladder is being bossy.

Anyway, I went in and the x-rays didn't show much. So off to the next folks. And scheduled Ibuprofen. Meantime, I get to endure an hour on my rear end for the hour of our Presentation, and then Pinning. Yay me.

Some other news, which I'm reluctant to either share or call fantastic, is that I got a call from the Hospice Group today. The lady who called me last week after looking at my resume and who basically told me they weren't hiring new grads, called me back. Apparently, she forwarded my resume to the "Interviewing Committee" and they would like to interview me after all. It will be on Wednesday at 10:00. I am really anxious about it. I guess I did NOT do well in my first interview at the Hospital (but thought I had), so am just not sure how this job hunt will go. Hospice pays very well, and it's a field that I think I'd really enjoy. Helping people find comfort and kindness in their last months is a gift I know I can bring.

OK now I know why we haven't seen you around much. I was hoping to get the next installment of my TR up this week, but you are one of the folks who still needs to get in their answers for the contest. I'll keep it open for another few days and hope you and a few others stop by!

I missed this on FB, but I do kind of know what you mean. I think my butt pain is just that I sit on it way too long!

Well I hope it works out in the way you want. From what I know of hospice it goes really quickly, but I suppose there are all kinds of different cases.

Your tailbone issue sounds painful, hope they sort that out!

Good luck with the hospice interview! Did you get any feedback from HR at the hospital about where you strayed in that interview? Sometimes info like that can be helpful in prepping for future opportunities.

Glad to hear at least it isn't a broken tailbone. I hope they can figure out the actual issue quickly so you can get some relief! Best wishes for getting through all your required sitting in the next few days! :goodvibes

And, good luck with the job hunt.
