The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

Ok, I tried school bread at the Norway pavilion once and was not impressed.

The one I tried there was super dry, and just kinda meh. Very bland. I LOVE coconut, but this just didn't do a thing for me.

Actually all the pastry we tried in the real Norway was so amazing! Mainly because of their very heavy use of cardamom.

Isn't that true with anything generally speaking? We can get pretzels here, but they can't even come close to ones from Bavaria. I just need to travel more.

No! Don't do it!!

Thank you! You've saved me $40. I like caraway, but maybe this is something that has to grow on you. Kinda like Raki.

Friends,

Off to another (and my last) row of 3 nights. I won't be back on at the earliest, unless I do a drive by with my phone, until Monday. Sunday is both my birthday AND Mother's Day. I don't think anything is planned, as I've been told that we're holding off on a BIG birthday celebration for 4 of us (Mikki, Zach, Rebekah and myself) after my parents' arrival. It's Mikki's 21st and she wants her very first drink with her family. Awwww...

Anyway, coming up to a busy few days.... please enjoy yourselves here. Keep the place clean; when I come home I'll expect the dishes to be done, Kids.

When I do get back, I have some concrete developments to share on the Keys portion of the trip. Made some ressies and flights last night...

It was built by my hubby's grandparents in 1949 as a summer cabin on the river.

So much about that sentence that I love.

Now we are buying it and slowly destroying it.

We suck at keeping the forest tamed as neither of us really likes yard work.

Who does? There's a reason why we went with zero lawn in the back yard.

Luckily, DH has a chainsaw and isn't afraid to use it. We have more cut wood than a beaver on speed.

That's quite possibly the whackiest schedule I've ever seen. No wonder you keep weird hours.

It works for us because of this:
The first day back after days off starts at 2:45pm so you have more time off contiguous to your actual days off.
The last day is a midnight, so you're off at 6:45am and have all that day and evening off... and then your three days off.

Combine the two and it maximizes your time away from work.
The downside is two short changes (shifts with only 8 hours off in between) in the cycle.

I'm sure you'll be back in a bit.

"Back in a bit"? You're right! Another word for it rhymes with "bit"!
Still can't think of it, though.

Thanks! I was doing stuff from my phone, and stuff like that is too hard.

More like, impossible.

So, as promised I thought I'd fill everyone in on what we've cooked up for Wednesday, the 19th. It seemed like there are going to be several more arrivals near or on that day.

:sad1:

Go ahead and say you don't like EPCOT. I dare you...

I don't like EPCOT.

It's a bald face lie since it may (I can't decide between that or MK) be my favourite park.

You can take your School Bread and.... eat it.

Coconut. Nope.

Rice Cream is worthy of an Ode. A Sonnet. It's a dreamy dessert worthy of the entire price of a 1 day ticket to EPCOT all by itself.

Still have yet to try this.

Eh hemmm... where was I?

I can give you coordinates if you like?

yack it up, (we'll keep you from too much merriment at The Ditch so you don't perform the secondary meaning of that),

:lmao:

I LOVE coconut,

Hmmm.... I don't know if we can still be friends after this outburst.

Off to another (and my last) row of 3 nights.

Have fun! Watch out for that 3rd one.

Sunday is both my birthday AND Mother's Day.

Oh! Geez, that came up fast (Mother's Day, I mean).
Mom's out of town, but must get something for Ruby.

Keep the place clean; when I come home I'll expect the dishes to be done, Kids.

Awww.... do we have to?

G is for Good Times at Grand Gatherings

So, as promised I thought I'd fill everyone in on what we've cooked up for Wednesday, the 19th. It seemed like there are going to be several more arrivals near or on that day. Right?? If you are not one of these people, it's far from too late to plan on being there... promise. ;)

Whatcha guys (and gals) think?? @mom3sonstt , @DISNEYMOON10121991, Alison, Rosie, Others??? Spread the word!! Know of others that'll be there on the 19th?

Should be some pretty fun shindigging goin' on.

:sad1: I fly home that day.

On a happier note.... I BOOKED OUR FLIGHTS TODAY!! : )

A group of mathematicians and a group of engineers were lined up at the goal line of a football field. 100 yards away, on the opposite goal line, a group of gorgeous scantily-clad women were waiting. The mathematicians and engineers were told that every time the whistle blew, they would be allowed to traverse half the distance to the opposite goal line. The whistle blew, and all of the engineers raced out to the 50-yard line. The mathematicians stayed put. The whistle blew again, and the engineers ran another 25 yards. The mathematicians stayed put. Once more the whistle blew, and the engineers ran another 12.5 yards. The mathematicians stayed where they were. Finally, the man running the test walked over to the mathematicians and asked why they hadn't moved. They replied, "Because it's a trick. It's mathematically impossible to reach the other side, so why bother?" The man then walked over to the engineers and said, "Hey, these guys say you'll never actually reach the other goal line, so it's not worth the effort." The engineers replied, "We'll get close enough for all practical purposes."
:thumbsup2

(You forgot that Kringla has Rice Cream.)
I did??? How in the world............

Someday.... someday I will also have the privilege of using the exclusive entrance. Ladies trip....?????
HEY!

Ok, I tried school bread at the Norway pavilion once and was not impressed.
After reading all the hype, I felt the same when I first tried it also. It seemed more bland to me than I thought possible with the coconut and creme. And yes, it seemed a little dry too.

I am really thinking that trying the Aquavit sounds fun. Liquor aged by rolling around in oak barrels 5 months at sea?!?! Hmmm....
No! Don't do it!! Aquavit is really vile stuff! It is mainly vodka that tastes of caraway seeds. Unless you enjoy drinking shots of caraway flavored vodka, stay away from it!!
Thanks for the feedback Madgalene! I hate caraway seeds and this drink sounds absolutely disgusting! :scared:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

And I am proud that I even figured out why the mathematicians did not move!! And it really shows how often close enough is all that matters! :thumbsup2 Just not when you are taking a math exam...

Stupid iPod won't let me quote it, but  about the 100 yard dash.

... when close is good enough. :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Of course, getting anywhere with the ladies would require the engineers to talk with them, and that's where the whole story breaks down.

Whoever wants to join up for dinner, be it La Cantina de San Angel, The Ditch for heavy snacks and margs til we have our fill and make an appropriate amount of mayhem, or just cruise the F&W booths, we will be ready for your company. (Actual place TBD... feel free to give your opinion)

Can I come in spirit?

I can hand off some goodies I've been crafting for the Cool Kids on the block, and we can get all misty-eyed together over pyrotechnics and explosions. (I confess, that show isn't my favorite... it's disjointed and kinda weird, but it does make pretty good use of potassium nitrate, sulfur and magnesium.)

It just needs more of the beginning and end, and less spinning globe.

Of course, getting anywhere with the ladies would require the engineers to talk with them, and that's where the whole story breaks down.

Yes, I remember this story. It was a church event or something with a girl all lonely at a table and an engineer being totally oblivious... :goodvibes

Are we all behaving, Kids?? 1 down, 2 left. Started in the ED last night, but got moved back up to Med-Surg to float. Kinda a boooooring night. Except that I got to splint a 27 day old baby's leg. Although not "fun" it was very interesting.

Intriguing convo about the Norway eats and drinks. I have ZERO desire to spend and entire day inebriated DAtW, nor wasting my time of ho-hum versions of ethnic snacks. But when I find a good one, or one of my trusted homies gives me a recommendation I'm 100% there.

Carry on... I'll just be over here guzzling coffee and doing what I do. On a side note, I am sad that the yesterday's Day Shifters got a free burrito bar for Nurses' Week and we Night Shifters got shafted with zipppo. Not that I'm an entitled type of person, but HEY! Not even 1 marg to compensate.

Interesting it would be.

Typical. All the fun happens during the day.

In all my years of working shift work, I always had to remind the powers that be that there are other shifts than days. The swings and night guys always get the shaft.

We are still on for the Friday 14th at Piano Bob's right !! By the way Happy Nurse's day week or what ever to you

and to all the mothers

Thank you so much, Pat! I really don't know, but should ask just to have resources in my back pocket. I'd imagine in your line of work, you've had a few 911 calls as well.

Called 911 many a time. Nothing so far ( knocking wood as I type) life-threatening but lots of messy bleeding cuts. We call 911 for lots of "just in case: things to CYA and MEDIC has more "toys" than we do to check someone out. Basically we have none. :sad1: When I am somewhere where I have developed a relationship with Fire ( they respond first, MEDIC never shares) I get to help with either immobilization or extrication. Last one was a lady who threw her back out in the pool during aerobics and could not bear weight so she could not get out any way we had available. MEDIC would not get in the water and she was conscious so not their job, Fire was a bit confused on how to get her out so we had to get creative. Luckily the patient ( YUP ) had an idea since this has happened to her before. ( not in our pool ) We got the stretcher and a wilderness waterproof litter type stretcher to get her onto the MEDIC stretcher. I now ordered 3 of those for our center in case it happens again.

All of them are awesome shots but these are a couple of my favorites.

I would love to see us all come together as a DISFamily for Dayna (@dglilbit ) and support her as they just got some hard news about their cutie patootie little girl, Evie. At the very least, could you stop by and just tell her you'll send up a little prayer for them as they face the next days and weeks at the children's hospital? When one of us is hurting, we all do.

Also, most of us on this thread know of Andy's (@afwdwfan ) situation with his Little One as well. Let's support them too, as they face the unknown in the next weeks and months. Life is not always easy, but carrying the burden with others can make it a little better.

Prayers to both families as they deal with tough times.

Have you ever seen or heard of the British Movie series "CARRY ON" one of which was Carry On Nurse !! They were hysterical

We did too. But it wasn't intentional.

It works for us because of this:

That actually makes a lot of sense. But why only a 6 hour and 45 minute shift?! I'd love those!

"Back in a bit"? You're right! Another word for it rhymes with "bit"!
Still can't think of it, though.

Other than reading, I'm not sure what the point of the app is.

This.

I don't like EPCOT.

It's a bald face lie since it may (I can't decide between that or MK) be my favourite park.

We rank a little differently, but come pretty close. Also, kinda liking that Euro spelling up there ^^. Is that across the board in Canadaland?

Coconut. Nope.

You and Alison...:sad2:

Still have yet to try this.

I'll be interested in your opinion.

I can give you coordinates if you like?

Might be helpful. Although this reminds me of the horrible dream I just had: I got lost in San Diego and couldn't find my way back to my car. Awful!!!

Hmmm.... I don't know if we can still be friends after this outburst.

Fine. I'll keep my (coco) nutty opinions to myself.

Have fun! Watch out for that 3rd one.

It literally takes me 2 full days to recover. I slept until 3 PM on my birthday, which ended up being a non-birthday, really. Went to bed at 9:30. Then just now today woke up at 11:00 and am sooooooo groggy. I'm going to do some DISsing and then I really think I"m going to go back to sleep for a while. I should be doing some homework in prep for the next 3 big days at school, but just can't think clearly.

Oh! Geez, that came up fast (Mother's Day, I mean).
Mom's out of town, but must get something for Ruby.

What did you get her? Did the girls do anything for her?

My mommy is on her way (and Dad) to see us! I can't wait to hang out and celebrate all of our birthdays and stuff.

Awww.... do we have to?

I can get rather cranky coming back to a place in dishevelment.
