The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

I was a student nurse when I saw my first patient pass . I then had to prepare him for the morgue, which included emptying his bladder and wrapping him in a morgue sheet . Not to many 18 year olds can say they did that!! ' Maybe that's why I turned to Pole Dancing !!! :confused3
Sounds more like your torpedoing skills are a better fit for this one! :rotfl:

Nursing has come a long way since my student nursing days !! :goodvibes
That goes for a lot of things! Fire............civilization.............. discovery of the New World............. books................... :rolleyes1

I could tell some tales !! My claim to fame was being the BEST enema giver on the ward !!:rotfl2:
Well THAT explains a lot!

My fave was the girl who told me I was wrong and tried to give me the change back. I finally told her to put it in her machine just like I gave it to her. When the change came out correctly, all she said was "Huh! How did you do that?"

Here honey. Let me get you started.
1 + 1 = 2. 2 + 2 = 4. Take it from there.
I've had waaaay too many of those lately. One was the drive through where the bill was like $4.53. I gave the girl $10.53.............she starts to hand me back a $1. Uh, didn't I give you a $10? :scratchin Yeeeess??? Oh, sorry.......as she puts the $1 back in the till and pulls out a $5 to hand me. As I still look at her funny, and work the math for her, she finally pulls the $1 back out and gives me the $6 that I am owed with the apology...........I'm sorry, I've had a tough day today. I'm thinking...........doesn't that machine calculate it FOR you??? :faint:

Butt is spelled with two "t"s.
Well, this IS a family discussion board............... :rolleyes2

:sad2:
So not surprised.

Well, this IS a family discussion board............... :rolleyes2

Oh! I thought it was a familiar board.

Thank you! It's been fun! More celebrating to come!

Sounds like a fun time and a whole week of celebration! :D

True story. We gave my parents (both computer programmers) a rectangular shaped waffle maker. I commented that I wasn't sure how much batter to use, as we have a round waffle iron about 7 inches.

My Dad said, "well Pi times 3.5 squared...

And my mom proceeded to finish the equation with a nearby calculator. Then they measured the rectangular waffle maker to calculate the area. The conclusion was that the same amount of batter would be sufficient.

I don't think I'd have gone through any of that trouble. I'd have poured some batter in and adjusted up or down as needed. But maybe that's the lazy, jack way of doing things.

Bed bugs? :scared1: :scared1:

I always just assumed a cheap, crappy motel had to have them to qualify as one.

Beautiful pictures!

Thanks, Alison!

Liesa, those pictures are amazing!! How wonderful that you had such brilliant weather! Here spring has finally arrived with equally beautiful sunshine and is supposed to stay for at least the next week - and the best is that Thursday is a public holiday here!

Thanks, Magdalene. It was so beautiful! A very rare day here in the PNW.

Enjoy your Ascension Day!! I hope you find something really nice to do.

It reminds me of a joke that a friend of my father once told my father and which he loved telling himself ever since: It is an experiment where you put a mathematician, a phycisist and an engineer into a room each and don't give them anything to eat for three days. Then each of them gets a can of beans, but no can opener. Half an hour later you look into each room. The mathematician sits in front of the still closed can and is smiling and tells you that he has solved the problem. The phycisist just started eating the beans. He calculated at which angle he had to throw the can against the wall for it to break open. Finally the engineer has just finished eating beans. He just threw the can against the wall until it broke open.

:lmao::lmao::lmao: Good one- Mike liked it!

I wish they'd tell kids to take just one thing away.
How to make change.
Like if something costs $8.77, not to freak out if you're given $10.02.

:scratchin:scratchin:scratchin:scratchin:scratchin:scratchin Hmmm.... nope. Just freaked out.

Yes! I love a good apple crumble pie.

Once upon a time, crumble is the ONLY way to do pie. Unless it's pumpkin. The end.

Yes! I'm number one! I'm number one! Me! Me! Yaaaayyyyy me!

too much?

Subtle. Very, very subtle. And yes, you're still #1 because I had to go over to Andy's thread first afterall. It'd been a little bit, and I don't want to miss any news over there. Really hoping for all the best for them.

I'd like that.

There are a few of us who would. Let's get something planned sooner than later for next year!

Pretty normal.
Don't worry. It gets worse.

I feared as much. Seems to be the worst when it's 3 or more nights in a row.

Ask if they have them.
And nice that you and Angela were able to share.

I will certainly do so.

Oh, sure. You want laziness and money! Sheesh!

Doesn't everyone? Or is it just me who wants to work a little and have enough for remodeling a good portion of my house AND go to WDW every year?

So, blink and you miss it, hunh?

A little like Otis, Oregon.

Oh, no. I found this out the hard way.
You do have to use all that fancy math... when your kids get into high school and want you to help them with their homework.

:faint:

True dat. Every dang night.

You got some great shots there, girl.
I've commented on a few, but they're all pretty nice!

Thank you. I find it really relaxing to have it as a creative outlet once in a while.

Okay... what do you mean by that?
I hope you're not referring to bed bugs!

Just that icky feeling that microbes abounded. It was probably the last room available in town. Got it as we were driving the hour over.

Can we talk behind your back?

(please note I didn't mention talking about your behind.

Dang... just did.)

I'm sure both have been talked about plenty.

But the funniest rear-end talk I've ever heard came from my niece:

:overheard by one of my twin sisters about the other:

5 year niece says to her aunt while changing in the bathroom, "Don't worry Auntie Nene. My mom has a big butt too."

I presume these are taken of tide pools?

Yes! Dinky ones. I am still in search the better ones, but will probably have to drive further than I've been willing to lately.

Don't jump! She'll be done with her preceptorship soon!

...but then she'll have to work.

She said pie..........not pudding! o_O

That particular idiom has been morphed... Look it up:

"The proof of the pudding is in the eating"

Which is WAY better! Especially if it's a pudding PIE!

I was a student nurse when I saw my first patient pass . I then had to prepare him for the morgue, which included emptying his bladder and wrapping him in a morgue sheet . Well, H...E...Double hockey sticks, Rosaroni! You'd be my FIRST choice for a nurse! I mean who doesn't want the BEST enema around?!?

:woohoo::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Liesa those are amazing photos !!! I love the ones of the seagulls !!

Thanks, Rosie! It was such a fun day!

Now that's clever. :thumbsup

He has his moments.

All right! I'm having the best day! (Apart from hurting my back... again... and being at work... on my day off.)

Sounds like an amazing day. Who doesn't want to be working when you could be eating pie or doing other more fabulous things like... I dunno... sleeping?

I'm sorry, I've had a tough day today. I'm thinking...........doesn't that machine calculate it FOR you??? :faint:

I can imagine how it'd go down if a nurse said this after she gave a little too much "change" from her machine. "Oh, sorry! I've had a tough day today. The machine does calculate it for me, but I didn't put the right numbers in it.".

Well, this IS a family discussion board............... :rolleyes2

Since when has that EVER mattered? :confused3:rotfl2:

Great pictures - I'd love to go fly a kite!
Microscopic friends? I'm hoping not bed bugs, since they can be seen...

Thanks, Donna! There were lots of pretty kites on the wind yesterday. :)

Oh! I thought it was a familiar board.

"Familiar", "Fun"- yes. "Family friendly"- almost always

:scratchin:scratchin:scratchin:scratchin:scratchin:scratchin Hmmm.... nope. Just freaked out.

Oh, for.... Ask one of your kids!

Once upon a time, crumble is the ONLY way to do pie. Unless it's pumpkin. The end.

If there's not crumble, ponzi will grumble... well, not really. Hello! Pie!

And yes, you're still #1 because I had to go over to Andy's thread first afterall. It'd been a little bit, and I don't want to miss any news over there. Really hoping for all the best for them.

I totally get that. Rough one.

There are a few of us who would. Let's get something planned sooner than later for next year!

I can't! I never know what's going on that far in advance. At least not Disnywise anyway.

I feared as much. Seems to be the worst when it's 3 or more nights in a row.

Oh? The most I work is usually two in a row. I find the second one easier.

Doesn't everyone? Or is it just me who wants to work a little and have enough for remodeling a good portion of my house AND go to WDW every year?

It's not just you.

A little like Otis, Oregon.

Ah ha! Is that where you are? Stalking coming right up!

I find it really relaxing to have it as a creative outlet once in a while.

What is this "relaxing" you speak of?

Just that icky feeling that microbes abounded. It was probably the last room available in town. Got it as we were driving the hour over.

Ah. Well hopefully you didn't leave with anything extra.

5 year niece says to her aunt while changing in the bathroom, "Don't worry Auntie Nene. My mom has a big butt too."

:lmao:

...but then she'll have to work.

sshhhh.... you want her to jump???

Sounds like an amazing day. Who doesn't want to be working when you could be eating pie or doing other more fabulous things like... I dunno... sleeping?

Sleeping? With a puppy around? Ha!

Great pictures Liesa. Do you have an underwater camera also or were those pools that you could see the critters from the surface?

That particular idiom has been morphed... Look it up:

"The proof of the pudding is in the eating"

Which is WAY better! Especially if it's a pudding PIE!

Thank you for reminding people of this. It drives me crazy when people say it the morphed way, which makes no sense! When I tell them what it's supposed to be they're always like "Ohhhh!"

Oh, no. I found this out the hard way.
You do have to use all that fancy math... when your kids get into high school and want you to help them with their homework.

:faint:

This part terrifies me. The 9th grader hasn't been asking for any help lately, but the 6th grader often does. I'm having a hard enough time remembering 6th grade math - when either of them starts asking about trig and calculus, I'm really going to be in trouble!

That particular idiom has been morphed... Look it up:

"The proof of the pudding is in the eating"
Don't need to look it up. ....already familiar with both the morphed and original versions. Rosie was talking about eating pie, I just simply substituted pudding.

However, both make equally as perfect sense. The quality or proof of the pudding is based on what ingredients are IN said pudding, which is definitely revealed in the tasting (unless there is fuzzy blue stuff growing on top and then I personally concede to the viewing). Whether good or bad is based at least in some part on what is IN the pudding (fresh milk vs sour, new pudding mix vs 10 years in your pantry, etc.) :-)

Oh, for.... Ask one of your kids!

Don't be a doofus. I used my calculator.

If there's not crumble, ponzi will grumble... well, not really. Hello! Pie!

Clever.

I totally get that. Rough one.

:(

I can't! I never know what's going on that far in advance. At least not Disnywise anyway.

Well, THAT'S gonna make it hard. (not impossible, just hard.)

Oh? The most I work is usually two in a row. I find the second one easier.

2nd one is easier, 3rd one is exponentially harder.

Ah ha! Is that where you are? Stalking coming right up!

I went THROUGH Otis. On my way to the coast. Anyone from the Willamette Valley coming from Salem has to. Unless you're ok with adding a ton of extra miles to go north or south before you head over the Coast Range.

Ah. Well hopefully you didn't leave with anything extra.

Probably just the heeby-jeebies.

sshhhh.... you want her to jump???

There have been a few times. But I'd want her back pretty quickly.

Sleeping? With a puppy around? Ha!

You are insane! There was a reason DH got the V job. NO! Not so I couldn't have puppies (I KNOW that's what first popped into your brain), but infants are almost as much work. ;)

Don't be a doofus. I used my calculator.

You have a calculator? I mean, separate from your phone?

Well, THAT'S gonna make it hard. (not impossible, just hard.)

Yup.

2nd one is easier, 3rd one is exponentially harder.

Ah. I'm hoping to never find that out.

I went THROUGH Otis. On my way to the coast. Anyone from the Willamette Valley coming from Salem has to. Unless you're ok with adding a ton of extra miles to go north or south before you head over the Coast Range.

Soo.... from the Willamette Valley!

There have been a few times. But I'd want her back pretty quickly.

::yes::

There was a reason DH got the V job.

um...

NO! Not so I couldn't have puppies (I KNOW that's what first popped into your brain),

::yes:: Hence the nervous "um..."

but infants are almost as much work. ;)

Nah. Taking care of an infant requires getting up in the night, feedings, changings, etc. Taking care of a puppy is pretty much "Elle! (or) Kay! Take care of the puppy."

Great pictures Liesa. Do you have an underwater camera also or were those pools that you could see the critters from the surface?

No, the water was really clear and the sun was high, so not so many shadows. The next equipment I'm going to splurge on is a wide angle lens. Well, actually, I can't decide on that or a macro. Both would be fun. But I'm thinking for the upcoming trip, a wide angle would be most fun.

Thank you for reminding people of this. It drives me crazy when people say it the morphed way, which makes no sense! When I tell them what it's supposed to be they're always like "Ohhhh!"

Glad to be of service. ;)

This part terrifies me. The 9th grader hasn't been asking for any help lately, but the 6th grader often does. I'm having a hard enough time remembering 6th grade math - when either of them starts asking about trig and calculus, I'm really going to be in trouble!

Trust me, I'm thankful for the engineer hubby in the house. I'm off the hook for finding slopes.

Don't need to look it up. ....already familiar with both the morphed and original versions. Rosie was talking about eating pie, I just simply substituted pudding.

Whether good or bad is based at least in some part on what is IN the pudding (fresh milk vs sour, new pudding mix vs 10 years in your pantry, etc.) :-)

It worked. (you know I was just being a jerk, right?)

As for fuzzy blue stuff... stop lurking in my fridge!

You have a calculator? I mean, separate from your phone?

2 or 3. And I'm not afraid to use them!

Soo.... from the Willamette Valley!

:sad2:

Yeah.

::yes:: Hence the nervous "um..."

I KNEW it.

Nah. Taking care of an infant requires getting up in the night, feedings, changings, etc. Taking care of a puppy is pretty much "Elle! (or) Kay! Take care of the puppy."

So, then... you ARE or you're NOT losing a lot of sleep?

2 or 3. And I'm not afraid to use them!

Never come between a woman and her.... calculators.

Prepare for imminent stalking!

I KNEW it.

:laughing: ::yes::

So, then... you ARE or you're NOT losing a lot of sleep?

Only after a night shift.
If she's up in the night... that's the kids' problem. Ha!
But she's woken me up a few times during the day while I'm trying to sleep after a night shift.

You have a calculator? I mean, separate from your phone?
2 or 3. And I'm not afraid to use them!
:faint:
Oh sure, and NEXT you'll be trying to make us believe there are cameras not on a phone.......and you have those too! :headache:

It worked. (you know I was just being a jerk, right?)
:scratchin Well of course!

now anyway.......

As for fuzzy blue stuff... stop lurking in my fridge!
Hey, you can't preserve those Smurfs forevah you know :sad2:

Never come between a woman and her.... calculators.

It could really turn into a divisive situation. Adding misery to your day and subtracting from your safety.

Prepare for imminent stalking!

Here... let me help you out. (hint: you do realize that we're friends on FB and you could pinpoint me in about 40 nanosecond, right?) But If FB isn't quick enough here:

45.020190, -123.077254

Only after a night shift.
If she's up in the night... that's the kids' problem. Ha!
But she's woken me up a few times during the day while I'm trying to sleep after a night shift.

Which is approximately 50% of your shifts. And cleaning dog crap up at 10:00AM after you've been up all night... that's gotta suck.

:faint:
Oh sure, and NEXT you'll be trying to make us believe there are cameras not on a phone.......and you have those too! :headache:

I have 2 of a lot of things.

Like maracas.

:scratchin Well of course!

now anyway.......

Starting to feel like old times on the DIS now. Bringing back the good old days.

Hey, you can't preserve those Smurfs forevah you know :sad2:

But, but....

Trust me, I'm thankful for the engineer hubby in the house. I'm off the hook for finding slopes.

Well, we're both architects, so I don't get to use that argument. Plus, dd would much rather ask me for help. Thankfully, calculus is still quite a ways away. (I did realize ds is probably not on track to ever need to take calculus, so I'm probably completely off the hook there.)

And I also still have my solar TI-30 from high school. It lives on my office desk, and gets used regularly. The only downside to solar calculators in high school was that you couldn't do your homework when a class was showing a movie!

Also, going back to comment that your beach photos are gorgeous!

Looks like a lovely beach getaway. Great pictures!

I'm glad to see that you were able to clarify on what we all thought referred to bed bugs. Gotta love the old roach motels! :rotfl2:

It's funny how many scienc-y folks are on this thread! Engineers, architects, med professionals,

My kids would rather ask me for help too, but in some things I just can't offer much. But when they ask for help on an essay... BAM! Easy peasy. The highest I ever went was stats (which I adored), so no calc help coming from this region.

And I also still have my solar TI-30 from high school. It lives on my office desk, and gets used regularly. The only downside to solar calculators in high school was that you couldn't do your homework when a class was showing a movie!

HAHA! I do too!! In fact, my daughter just used it in her accounting final a few weeks ago as she was only allowed a basic function, non-programmable. Mom's relics to the rescue!

Also, going back to comment that your beach photos are gorgeous!

Awwww, thanks! I have so much fun with my camera!

Looks like a lovely beach getaway. Great pictures!

Thanks, Andy! I see you're working hard. ;)

I'm glad to see that you were able to clarify on what we all thought referred to bed bugs. Gotta love the old roach motels! :rotfl2:

It was a dive. But they had a nice movie rental library. So there was that.
