The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

It appears I am caught up in the places I should be. However, I have an awful nagging feeling that some of you have threads going that I"m not aware of, have missed, or you know, just have bad eyesight. Which is also quite entirely possible! Anyway, gots to get me some sleeeeeeep now. It's been a crazy, stress-filled week! Monday and Tuesday I had Clinical and the Psych Hospital (Oh, by the way, the interesting history that I eluded to earlier:

For one, the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was filmed there. And secondly, my last job before starting Nursing School was working on the team that did all the research related to the almost 3,500 unclaimed urns of deceased patients from 1917-1973. I helped photograph each copper urn, reasearched through hundreds of medical records looking for clues as to who they were and whether or not they were Veterans who would be turned over the the Veteran's Affairs Dept for honorable burials or Native Americans who would be re-patriated to their tribes. And yes, we did find many. There were 6 of us on the team and it took a Very long time to sift through EVERY record. Anway, I then helped Lead Pencil transfer the cremains to their new ceramic urns to be placed in the new columbarium. So yeah, pretty interesting stuff I got to be part of.

Wednesday, was the exam I (mostly) rocked, Thurday, was Lecture, and the day we all got the news that instead of a Comprehensive Check-off, it would now be a collaborative project that will be evaluated by an instructor. That took an enormous amount of pressure off of me as I get unbelievably nervous for those. Friday I spent 14 hours at the Hospital on the Post-Surgical Floor caring for 2 patients which was super awesome, but then had to spend all day writing up an academic paper (A Detailed Care Plan for you Nursey Friends). I only have to pass one this term, and one next term, so there's light at the end of the tunnel. I REALLY hope I pass this one this week. If not, I'll be doing the same thing next weekend. :(

Anyway, 6 more weeks in this term and then a nice long break for Christmastime. I think I'm going to sleep for a month.

Interesting. But...

... but this is fascinating.
Read the link. I think it's cool you had a hand in that.

Good grief! And good luck!
And then good night!

@franandaj I could have sworn you had a thread going, but can't find it. I think I forgot to subscribe in.... Help me out!! :)

The thread I have going is in my signature "Sharing the Disney Magic with Family and Friends". It started off as a PTR for my last April trip to WDW. However that went terribly awry when Fran fell and broke her leg in two places. The thread then turned into a blog about my 50th birthday weekend at DL (starts around page 26) and further adventures throughout the summer with DIS friends who came to visit for the 60th anniversary celebration. I will be continuing that thread as the April 2015 trip was rescheduled for next April, and as a PTR for two other upcoming trips. However in the next day or two I have a real bona-fide trip report to start from the cruise I just got back from.

If you want to find the Sharing the Magic...TR it's in the DVC Trip reports section. I would send you a link, but I'm on my phone right now and it's tough to paste links from the phone.

Wow, that is really interesting to me! I never saw that movie, but the part about doing research on the cremains is fascinating! See, I'm a total research geek, I love it! Don't know why though! :confused3 So I would really enjoy doing something like that.

6 weeks is gonna fly by! As busy as you are it will be here in no time!

How fascinating to match the remains , must have been quite an accomplished feeling as you matched each one you did . I don't know if you are on my thread "Rosie Roams in 2015" It is a sequel to Rosie Roams in 2014 and a Triology of Rosie Roams in 2013 :rotfl2:

I have actually missed you!! Haven't seen you here in ages! Everything ok?
Yes, I know, no matter my grades, I'll still be an RN. I am just freaked out that so many don't make it. Last year's class lost fully 1/3 of their class, and MANY from ours are failing- having gotten horrible grades on BOTH of the first couple of exams.

Thanks! I love the coast, and Oregon has one of the prettiest and most accessible. I'm a lucky gal![/QUOTE]
I am fine. Summer months can be busy in labor and delivery. I am also reading and studying for my certification exam in fetal monitoring . I have also taken a hiatus from DIS and social media. Back now. I have a trip about 6 weeks away

Keep plugging away at school. You are more than half way there.

So let me refresh your memory and pretend you care. ;)
Ok, I definitely need my memory refreshed. But we do care.

Wouldn't the logical thing to do be to go back to EPCOT and find something to do. You know like maybe find an Agent P Adventure thingy to do, or see if maybe, JUST maybe, Elsa will warm up to giving up one of her precious FP+s. If not, it's all good. There's a Ditch to fall into, a pancreatic crisis to have due to Food and Wine overload
Ah yes, the ditch and F&W. Of course you're going back to EPCOT!

Not a huge fan of Illuminations, so not sure if we'll be hanging out for that, or just heading back to FW to hit up some shorter lines.
I agree... I like Illuminations fine... but that's what it is. It's fine. I love the explosions and the fireworks, but it just isn't that great of a cohesive show.

I'll give the kids the choice; I'm totally fine with going either way on this one. I'm also fine with the option of just heading back for a swim. The next day is a MUST DO Rope Drop so maybe jumping on the beds earlier might be a good idea.
I always have a hard time making this call. But it would seem to make sense to make it an early evening.

Pretty certain my big guy - sorry I interrupt this TR for a randomosity that just hit me, my "big guy" will be an 18 year old when we go! Mind blown!
::yes:: And that would make you...

Ok, yeah, I won't go there. :rolleyes1

Isn't Mickey Mail fun?! I had meant for them to be stocking stuffers, but you know how it goes when you're not the first one out to the mailbox.
So they open your mail too????

Come Christmas morning I'll bet they'll be wishing they hadn't gotten that mail. Santa is having difficulty finding time to shop. Or forking out more money knowing our trip's not paid for yet.
Just act surprised, kids.

I chose that last one, because her name is Maria. She's been working at Beaches and Cream for over 20 years. She was the bomb-diggity server, and I'd go back there just for her over-the-top service again. I love to see CMs who love what they do and make guests feel great.
That's awesome! Always love to see good service recognized.

And that kitchen sink looks awesome. What are the odds that someone could eat that by themselves???? :scratchin

Playing catch up after playing for a week! Your plans are shaping up and the year is flying by! I sent you a FB PM.

Jill in CO

Pretty much caught up. Sounds like your studies are progressing, and so are your plans. Keep chugging along. ;)

Just keep up the good work. We'll be here! Hope all your studies and tests are still going well!

So, an update. I NEED to unwind and just relax here a bit; it's been a long week and an even longer day.

But it was a GREAT day, I finally was able to get some skills observed and "checked-off" by my Clinical Instructor today as I took care of 2 patients- one of whom had more tubes and drains, IVs, infections and surgeries than I thought he had body parts to accomodate them all. I held his hand through painful turnings, listened to his story, and cared for him as best I knew how.

Anywhoooo..... we also had our first "farm emergency" as well this week. NariLoo went out to check on the goats after she settled in from getting home from school and came screaming in that a goat was "down". I went and got the neighbors who have a small herd of meat cattle, and grabbed our bolt cutters and scissors. We had them staked on a small bank, and apparently one tripped/fell? and got tangled up in it's wire and the whole works got it stuck in a way that it couldn't get up. It REALLY looked like the clip that hooks them onto their chains went THROUGH the flesh of heel, but turns out it just had clipped onto that part of skin between the leg bone and the achilles tendon. You know, that skinniest part of the back of your ankle? The worst part about trying to get him unclipped and untangled was his pitiful and horribly frightening screaming as we worked frantically. Thankfully, after some working it, the clip came off, we cut the harness off and he popped right up. I didn't expect that at all, as I suspected he was going to have some systemic damage from laying there all day without water and all. We think he was there a good while, as there was a fairly large pile of doo-doos by him. But up he went, peed a river, and promptly picked up a leaf to munch. I knew it was all golden, as truly sick animals (and people) don't do any of those things. Long story short, that took the one evening I had to dink around here earlier this week away. Sad day.

So, here we are, the weekend before Exam #3. Half the term is gone. I've earned my Clinical Instructor's trust I think, have turned in all but one of my papers for this term, and only have 3 exams and 1 (Comprehensive) Final to go. Definitely feeling a TON of the pressure off now. Yes, there is a LONG way to go with 5 more Clinical days, a small write up for each of those, and COUNTLESS hours of studying so I don't flunk out. We truly are only technically graded on our Exam scores- everything else is Pass/Fail. If your instructor doesn't like you, they will find a way to weed you out, but 99% of folks who don't make it, at least in our program, fail out in the Theory portion. I mention that because the hardcore studying for this upcoming exam starts tomorrow and will run 4 straight days except for an 8 hour "break" in which I"ve agreed to take a shift at work. (Gots me some trip to pay for.....)

That's about all I can muster tonight; I've been up since 5:00 and on my feet since. It was GREAT having dinner all made by my the kids and Mike. I pulled a frozen roast beef meal out of the freezer last night and they did it up; and it was DELICIOUS!

Hopefully, a REAL update tomorrow, eh??

Wow, crazy goat story!! I can't imagine having to deal with...goats falling..amongst all the other stuff you are doing lol and here I thought I was busy!! I'm sure you will ace all your exams and such but it's always good to have the superiors on your side :))

What better way to celebrate 99 and 19/20ths pages of PTR fun than with a new and exciting, fantabulous, once-in-a-blue-moon, bona fide, ACTUALLY trip-related update!!

Friends and DISFamily, I give to you....

Chapter 40: N is for Nahtazu and New Places for You- Day 5

Last we left off, our intripid troupe was either watching Illuminations or catching a few more rides on the FW side. I vote the latter with the understanding some of you will gnash and grind your teeth; my kids may or may not choose the former. If they do, it's hasta kiddleywinks; there's a giant golfball with my name written all over it. I suppose they'll have to kick us out, or we'll have decided to call it quits early for a good night's sleep.

Hopefully, Ursula won't wreak too much havoc as we pass the night, and we'll wake up all refreshed and ready to go. (More likely, I'll wake up looking pretty much LIKE Ursula and have to seek coffee and a shower stat. In that order. And hopefully, she'll have stolen my kids' voices and I can have some peace and quiet until I get that coffee. Verandas await!)

Caffeinated up, showered, and re-chippered, we'll probably head over to the Food Court for some food-like stuff. A very great Runner-up idea would be to hit up the food choices the night before and we can eat on the bus. But where are we headed? Remember I said that getting up in time for today's Rope Drop was a Must-do? Well, there is a method to my madness... today, I'm going slow down and make this a conscious turning point in my trip touring style. Time to slow down, get myself into true vacation mode, and get the camera out and do something I really love to do. Take pictures and pretend I actually have a little talent behind the lens. The kids can take off and grab as many rides as they can on EE or Safari or Dino or whatever, but I'm hittin' the trails. Yep, I'm headed to AK to get some pictures with as much of the morning light as I can get and while the animals are up and around.

Anara did mention that she'd like to go to Rafiki's to see if we can catch a surgery or something cool, so we'll check the board when we get there. It's actually a really cool area to meander/saunter/sashay in, so I'd totally be game for that. It'll be fun to see what ends up going on the card. Might even be fun to have you all make a little photo scavenger hunt of sorts for me. Anyone wanna throw out a photo challenge for me? Something with a certain letter? Certain theme? Particular shot?

Moving on...

To equally important things. Like lunch. At the suggestion of Glenn, if we've already made it over to Sanaa on our first AK day, we'll forage at the Market Place. But you know, seriously, I have not made up my mind AT ALL about where to really sink my teeth into. Yak and Yeti is a great place for a DumSummy nosh, and the Flame Tree is always a great place to eat in a pretty setting as well. Honestly, until I can sit down with some serious time on my hands with my spreadsheets, look at prices and menus again, and ask the kids to give their votes (may be going with a blind voting system with points and stuff) I may not truly be able to say for sure. All the options are great ones; we won't be going hungry. Christmas break will be the time of intense planning and finalizing things more.

After we eat, we'll be heading out for some pool time. Probably from around 2-4. Because...

TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT!!! The first of maybe 2, depending on a few people's schedules, (as yet to be named (you're in utter suspense right now aren't you? )) GRADUATION CELEBRATION DINNERS! WOOT; PAR-TAY TIME!

Made the decision a while ago that my Official Celebration Dinner will be at the Flying Fish. That's right a new-to-me place (but then again, my list of never-tried-places is still pretty long). Super-de-dooper excited to finally get here after copious amounts of fabulous reviews by my DISFriends. You are all cordially invited to come and celebrate with me, and then head over to the late Yeehaw Bob show at POR. Should be a great time of merry-making, silly dancing, sing-alongy, funness that I'd love to get photos of you at so I can post. ;)

Long day, wouldn't you agree? I think I'll call that a wrap.

But not before a few Letter N pictures. You know, to add a little visual interest.

Test your cleverness and tell me why I posted each of those. Enjoy!
