DAY 10 SATURDAY
Up at 6.00 - early entry day at MGM today. It's not really necessary but we're in a Disney hotel and we are entitled to it so we will damn well do it whether you like it or not!
The weather is - well hot and sunny again with not a spot of "Doppler" rain forecast for later - YEEHAA!
I set off for the Mara with the mugs (nickname for me and other dad's doing the coffee run!) to collect the morning drinks (They're free you know).
We catch the Disney bus to MGM and arrive at the gates at 7.50 - spot on.
There are quite a lot of people here already but as we go into the park the "runners" move ahead and the small crowd thins out rapidly. We head straight to Rock & Roller Coaster and virtually walk straight on. DS is the only one who rode this last time so we are all a little anxious as to whether we will survive this ride. It is superb! I am not a great fan of roller coasters after a rather brain wobbling experience on a coaster (Nemesis) at Alton Towers a few years ago - but I absolutely love this one. Then we do the Tower of Terror (another walk-on) which is good fun too. Well - its mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned - those were the "priority rides" for today and we've done both and it's only 8.45. What now?
The Great Movie Ride, Star tours, Muppet vision 3D and the HISTK playground.
I round up the troupes and we walk into the Sci-Fi Dine in Theatre for our 12.00 PS for lunch. We have a short wait (about 15 mins) and during this time there are many poor souls (the general public as I like to call them) who are trying to get in out of the searing heat for some lunch and are turned away with the reply "Nothing available until 7.30 this evening Sir". Wow - you should see their faces! "See kid's - I'm not as mad as I look!"
Everyone thought I was a bit barmy trying to book all these PS's before we came but now look - "Oh dad - you are such a wonderful and considerate father" (HUH! - I wish!)
Anyway - we are shown to our "car" and we sit and watch the black and white movies while I sip an ice cold root beer feeling quite smug. It's about 95 degrees outside and I have timed this perfectly. One day I'll be appreciated!
I had a Turkey sandwich, DW and DS had Burger & Fries and DD had Hot Dog & Fries. DS has chocolate pie with Rocky Road ice cream and DD has chocolate chip cookies and ice cream (rather large desserts).
We carry our over stuffed children into Indiana Jones to let the meal go down and then go to Who wants to be a Millionaire where I manage to just get on the leader board at the end - very chuffed!
The heat is getting unbearable so we get the bus back to AKL - the bus driver misses the turning and we go for an unscheduled tour of the All Stars resorts! See - it's not just me who gets lost! Perhaps his wife was directing him - SMACK.....ouch!...........Sorry dear!
Back at AKL we swim and jacooze with our refillable mugs (did I mention it's free?). It really is a lovely resort. It never seems to be full and there are plenty of sun beds free to sit on while the kids swim.
After a swift change I pick up "Happy" from the car park and we're off to Epcot.
Fastpass for Test Track while we go on Universe of Energy and then go to the Electric Umbrella for a snack. Test Track breaks down while we are in the fastpass queue and we wait 45 minutes for it to get fixed. I think this is the longest we've ever queued in Disney.
We exit with 15 minutes to spare before Reflections starts - so we make our way to a viewing point (between the two friendship docks). This is spectacular - the first time we've seen this - well worth waiting for.
On the way out of the car park I take a wrong turn which takes us in completely the wrong direction. DW kindly points this out and apparently - I replied in a raised voice - which is funny really because this is the last words uttered by either of us for almost 9 hours!
I do the decent thing and get the coffee's in the refillable mugs (It's free you know!) but there is no respite. I sit on the balcony alone while the family discuss my fate! What a poor example of the male population I am!
Eventually I sneak into bed after the lights go out and they are all asleep. Oh dear! It had been a great day up to that point - Oh well - I will try harder tomorrow!
Night all -
I dream of having a family who loves me...........what do you mean it serves me right?
