The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

Was the trip to Berlin by train or bus? The brochure says either way is possible. Would like for the kids to take the train. Thanks

Just curious how luggage was handled on arrival back in Dover. We are taking Disney transit back to Heathrow. We are used to Port Canaveral, so wondering how they handle it here. Thanks

We did sights and sounds and it was a great tour. We did take the train down. I think that they put in the disclaimer just in case the trains need to leave before everyone is aboard, or too many people for the train. There should not be a problem with taking the train.

Pretty much the same way. We could not leave the ship until 8 am and all of the luggage was seperated into the character groups. There were porters there to help you to the coaches. There was a coordinator at the exit asking if you were taking transport and to which airport as well as which terminal. They directed you to a bus and as soon as they loaded the luggage in the hold underneath there was a short wait and on your way!

Now if you had an early flight there were special arrangements to leave the ship and you had to take your own luggage off. As well as special arrangements if you were doing post-cruise stay in hotels.

Hope that helps

Debbie

Thanks for all the great info.

For Castaway Clubbers, did they give out lanyards at check in for holding your KTTW card? Just wondering if I need to pack some.

Anyone know if they have the PB&J uncrustables onboard? We were planning on getting a few those from room service for a couple of places.

Thanks

We didn't see them on the menu. We had turkey or ham. Be sure and tell DCL you want them cold or DCL will heat them and then they are awful the next day.

Thanks for all the great info.

Yes

Starting my packing and was about to pack some water bottles when I remember reading somewhere that the castaway gift is metal water bottles. Is this correct? If so, I won't bother packing any.

How many bottles do you get per gift? We usually have two rooms and get two gifts, but this time we are all in a cat 4 so I assume we only get one gift:(

Yes, there are metal water bottles in the CC gift, actually using mine at work today. I think there were two in the gift to begin with and then concierge brought two more up for the rest of of our party since they couldn't get us an additional CC gift.

I wish they would go to one per family instead of one per stateroom. A lot of times you have multiple families traveling in one stateroom and having to split the gift.

Do they still give out bandanas on pirate night? Wondering if we need to pack some.

Were there many folks dressed up?

I kept the currency exchange sheet. These are the bills you can change:

Euro
50
20
10
5

British Pounds
20

Danish Krone
100

Swedish Krona
100

Norwegian Krone
100

Russian Ruble
500

I'm not sure if posting the exchange rates would be useful as they will obviously fluctuate but if anybody wants them let me know.

Hello David, thank you for this information. Does this mean if you break a local currency bill and have for example 20 Norwegian Krone, that the ship cannot exchange it back to US Dollars? Can you only purchase/exchange currency in these denominations?

Thank you

Ken

If getting local currency, can you give the ship cash or must you charge it to your room account?

Thanks

Ken

You have to have the cash or a travelers check, they will not allow you to charge it to your room. They are not able to take Disney or Visa gift cards either. Regarding changing the currency back the only restriction we were informed us were Russian Rubbles. They had to be either 500 or 1,000 ruble notes they were not allowed to take anything else back. Also could only change rubels purchased from them, if you bring any other currency with you they were willing to purchase it. Have a great time this is an awesome trip! Wish we were still on the ship. Sue

Did anyone happen to notice if they had any time at the spa for girls? I know they generally don't allow kids in the spa but sometimes have specials. My DD did a 1st spa sampler on RCCL last summer and has been asking if she can do it again on DCL.

The Salon had girls' packages - like "little princesses" that included nails and I think you could get their hair done. I didn't see anything for children in the spa.

They did have Bibbidy Bobbity Boutique advertized in the gift shop window for those going to the ball. I assume anyone could sign up, but didn't investigate.

DH would like to know if there is a Barber on board.

I'm sure that they could cut his hair at the salon. Don't know about a shave. Don't believe that there is a dedicated barber shop on board for passengers. There is one for crew though!

Photocopying my passports for Russia. I did one black and white copy per person. I'm low on ink so is that enough for 3 excursions? Someone posted that they were given their copy back, so they only needed one copy. Did others have the same experience?
