The 2009 DCI, WGI, BOA thread

Performed last night with the Crusaders Sr. corps for the annual "Spring Fling" official unveiling of the Jr. corps show. I have to say in all the 52 years (yep, all my life) I have been involved with drum corps, this is THE best show I have heard the Crusaders do! Wow factor is big. The percussion line is tight as can be. The 72 horns I listened to were absolutely phenominal for this time of year. One listen will tell you that they are ready. I have not seen the drill portion of this as of yet, but if it is anywhere close, look out! "The Core of Temptation" is truly a symphony of beauty! Can you tell I am excited for the kids?

BTW, they went wild for us 'ol folk as we opened the night with Crusader traditional music and a couple of North Star favs. They were so kind to us... They made me proud to be wearing Waldo even if I am a transplant from North Star. Tonight we get to perform in Everett with them once again. I gotta see if I can get a video of them tonight.

Have you guys listened the Cadets' closer yet? It's very similar to their '94 closer but with a few modern tweaks. (Layered horn effects, tempo changes, etc.) I'm not sure how I feel about the pit/battery book yet. They have a long way to go, but I'm actually pretty impressed.

Was it just me, or was the sound on the 2008 Finals DVDs really lousy? There seemed to be a lot of reverb which made the music sound really sloppy. Was it the stadium or just the placement of the mics?

It was the stadium. It bugged us all night. It's not as noticeable on the DVD's as it was that night though.

No. 2008 Finals were in Bloomington, remember. This year's finals will be in Indy.

Some things have changed at work, and I now have some time off, looking at different options.....

Ohio always used to get really good shows here late in the season, but now all the good shows are at the start of the season. There's one here in Columbus towards the end of the season, but it's not exactly the line-up I wanted to see. I'm guessing due to the location of Finals, all the eastern/midwest corps are scheduled to be elsewhere during late July and early August now.

I've noticed Texas has a few amazing shows scheduled. Soooooo not fair.

Besides finals, the best show I've ever been to was in Massillon, Ohio last year. Great facilities, excellent line-up (Blue Devils, Bluecoats, Vanguard, BAC, Blue Stars, Troopers and a few others) and amazing encore by Bluecoats and Vanguard.

Btw, I have a video of the entire Bluecoats standstill on facebook. PM me and I'll add you as a friend so you can see the video. GREAT stuff!

...and yes, Texas has some great shows this year. Too bad I'm moving to Florida next week. Oh well. A few of my sources tell me they're trying to bring a show down to South Texas i.e. Corpus Christi in the near future. That would be fun, but insanely hot.

Yeah, the Massilon show is the one my local friends usually go to, but if I remember right the line-up this year isn't as good as it has been in the past. (I could be wrong. I'm not feeling well, so it is possible. )

I do I do!! My DD marched in highschool, their actually National Champs! She was on ESPN her Jr. year. She was the Color Guard Capt! Their last season, was "For the boys", 40's big band stuff. Amazing show. Band WAS her highschool experience. We loved every second of it!!
