So proud of the kids from little ole Toledo Ohio!
The Journey of ONE has officially begun!
It was 11:58PM on Tuesday night when the buses began rolling from the GLASSMEN Rehearsal Headquarters in Wausseon, Ohio. Cheers erupted across all of the buses as the corps began to head East. The Journey of ONE has officially begun!
First stop? Washington DC. The GLASSMEN have the honor of bringing their popular ENTERTRAINMENT program to the steps of the Department of Education Building in Washington DC for the MENC Music Education Week in Washington.
"The directors and administration at MENC (The National Association for Music Education) are very grateful that we're making the trip to their event. It's an awesome way to kick off the 2009 Season! Taking the time out of rehearsal before the first show to do a gig in our Nations capital in support of music education on ALL levels across the United States is a great way for the GLASSMEN to continue our commitment to education", says executive director Brian Hickman. "The entire corps is excited about this, and it's a great way for the GLASSMEN and the Drum Corps community to present themselves as active partners in music education", he added.
The GLASSMEN are set to take the stage at 11:15 a.m. on June 18th at the Department of Education building at 400 Maryland Avenue. Following their performance, the signed Petitions for Equal Access to Music Education will be presented to Education Secretary Arne Duncan, followed by a march to Capitol Hill to visit members of Congress.
The GLASSMEN will grace the stage with other celebrity supporters such as basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, actress and singer Florence Henderson, Mrs. America 2009 Maureen McDonald, and "Funky Winkerbean" cartoonist Tom Batiuk.
After the performance, the GLASSMEN will refocus on preparation for their first show, Friday night, in Chambersburg, PA!
