I didn't know if this was previously posted, but I was able to pick up a 2008 guide this past Friday (17 August) at a Barnes & Noble in NYC. Very happy that they were already available, as this purchase always marks the unofficial start of our next Disney vacation (probaly last week in august 2008).

Now if my wife can just wait until the 1 year mark from our last day -- that's when she'll purchase a 1 year subscription to the touring plans, just to make sure that she can use it while we're actually there...

We purchased our copy yesterday at Barnes and Noble too - my DH was so excited last night - as he was skimming through the book he noticed one of his quotes was published. He thinks he took an online survey when we came back last year - he was quite happy to have his two cents added!:rotfl:

I swear I was JUST about to ask if the new one was avaliable at Barnes and Noble in NYC. Thanks!!!

DD will be so happy. I don't know why we buy this book - after about 10 visits it really doesn''t have anything new. And the book doesn't change that much from year to year. She just likes to read it and keep her "collection" current.

I ordered mine off Amazon, and at first it said the release date was 8/20, but then got changed to 8/27. Now I am confused because you all were able to by it. :sad2: What gives???

I got mine at 6th Ave/22nd St. and they had about 5 more in the racks. However, I know that a friend also got 1 in White Plains in Westchester, so it is probably in B&N's smaller stores as well.:thumbsup2

Me too. I've not looked at Amazon lately and haven't received notification that it was shipped so I guess I'll have to wait. Darnit.

I have both the 2006 and 2007 versions of the book and there is very little that has changed. I'd like to hear some comments about that as well before I spend the money on it.

I've been checking our local Books A Million every other weekend 'cause I knew the book would be out soon. Missed this past weekend because we took our daughter off to Missionary College for a year's service. :guilty:

Maybe Books A Million will have it in stock and I'll get a little ray of sunshine. Heaven knows I need it since our daughter is now 9 hours away and $10,000.00 tuition has come out of our pocket!

I purchase the Unofficial Giude every year and have for the past ten years. I have found that much of the material doesn't change. I really don't know why I even buy it other than it just makes me feel like I am planning our next trip. (Even though our 10 day June, 2008 stay is already booked and has been for two months now)

Oh, this is tempting. I was going to try and wait and buy the 2009 version since that is when we are going back. I might have to secretly buy one off of Amazon or something so my DH doesn't know!

I admit that the book doesn't change much, but I love re-reading about what I know and reading up on the changes, even in resorts I don't stay in or the 1 or 2 attractions I don't go on. My DW will have it read cover-to-cover by Christmas, which is when both of us get our vacation allotment for 2008. So, at that point, the real fun can begin.

I also pre-ordered off of Amazon. I would have thought we would have received ours in the mail at the same time they were able to be purchased in stores. Oh well, I am looking forward to receiving mine in the mail.

Is there anything new in the book?
Well, I'm willing to bet there will be a lot of old and outdated information in it...

Some CMs I know picked up a copy of the 2007 guide at Property Control and were taking turns in the breakroom finding the most outrageously outdated and wildly inaccurate passages and reading them aloud. Ah, good times...

This is new since my 2006 version.

There is now a section listing the loudest and quietest rooms on property. The gist seems to be that mods and values are quieter because their outside walls face the elements, so they are thicker and better insulated than the exterior walls of deluxes which open into a common hall.

Having said that, I have never even heard the dreaded "speedway" from either Rarotonga or Hawaii from my last 2 stays at The Poly, and this is something that is often cited in unhappy Poly stays.

"Unhappy Poly stay"? Isn't that kinda like "Jumbo Shrimp"?:)

This is why I stick to my Passporter since there are updates (they even highlight them!) and the worksheets as well as the Passpockets are "used up" after each trip so I need new ones!

This year I opted for the Deluxe edition, so now that I have the binder I just get the refills (for WDW or DCL) and I'm good to go!

Can't wait until November when I get my 2008 edition. (Jennifer and Dave hold off on sending it to the printer until AFTER WDW releases their pricing and package info in August...so it will all be included in the 2008 edition!).

Enjoy!

Is there anything new in the book?

I know I'm looking forward to the new section on flexible touring plans. Len Testa spoke about it at Magic Meets and it sounds like a great new feature in the book. I didn't realize the book was out already, I'll have to get my hands on one -- thanks!

I'm not even planning on going in 2008 and yet I feel the need to buy this book. Can someone please smack my hand so I don't click the little button to buy it on Amazon?:rotfl:

This is weird. I called B&N and they said it was released last week, but when I called Borders, they said it hasn't been released yet. Unfortunately, I have to wait until Borders gets it in, because I have a coupon for 30% off any book $10 or more.
