The 2008 Unofficial Guide is available!

Well, I'm willing to bet there will be a lot of old and outdated information in it...

Some CMs I know picked up a copy of the 2007 guide at Property Control and were taking turns in the breakroom finding the most outrageously outdated and wildly inaccurate passages and reading them aloud. Ah, good times...

What was that info?

I know I'm looking forward to the new section on flexible touring plans.

This is a great example of something "new" for me. We kind of created our own touring plan, which worked when we were carrying the kids, but got a bit harder last time. So, my DW actually read this portion last night and told me about it. It was such a "DUH" moment for me. So, while it is not "new" to the book, it's new to me. Kinda like WDW, where I always discover something new everytime I go...even if it has been there forever.

I ordered mine from Amazon too and am waiting. It looks like the stores don't all get their shipments at the same time.

This is new since my 2006 version.

There is now a section listing the loudest and quietest rooms on property. The gist seems to be that mods and values are quieter because their outside walls face the elements, so they are thicker and better insulated than the exterior walls of deluxes which open into a common hall.

That's in the 2007 version :)

I am really upset!!
I had pre-ordered my book and just received an e-mail today stating that instead of 8/20, the new release date is 8/29. And I've been reading how some of you have already purchased the book in some stores.
This is crazy. What's the point of pre-ordering if it can already be bought in a store. I could already be reading it!!

I am off to pick up mine now. :thumbsup2 It will be the first one I have purchased. I hope it is informative.

Just wondering we are going Sept, I have mostly been doing my research on line but might buy a book. Should I buy the 2007 or 2008 for this Sept?

I would think that the 2008 would be best for you since the information is more recent. However, since the book went to print before the recent price increases, don't expect to find that info correctly in either edition.

Either way, I don't know how long you have been doing your research. Maybe you should look it over "in store" to see if it provides any real value for your situation?

New book....GOOD!!! Yeah, I've been reading it since the weekend! I'm all pumped up about next year's trip! yay!

What was that info?

Two bits I remember guffawing at:

The entry on Innoventions cautioned against the kids hogging all the Sega games (that Sega; what a popular game system!).

The entry on Country Bear Jamboree mentioned that Max, Buff, and Melvin are also seen at the Mile-Long Bar (which was removed back in... 1998, I think).

There were plenty more, believe you me... those are just the two I remember.

With out giving TOO much info thats in the book... cause thats not fair to the book PUB...

I am interested in getting this book... what kinda info is in there? a brief synopsis would be great. i have no idea. :confused3

According to Amazon it is now in stock, so those of you who ordered through them should be getting them shortly. I'm going to check Borders again today and see if they are in yet there.

I am glad I puchased it. I have been skipping around to read on subjects I am interested in and this has so much inetersting info and advice. I enjoy some of the letters noted in the book that were sent in by readers. :)

I don't know where to start...EVERYTHING is there! Prices, reviews of attractions, places to stay (on-site and off), places to eat (from the smallest snack bar to the most extravagant restaurant), ways to get to WDW from the airport. Basically, everything that is also available on the DIS, except for two things:

1) The book is available when your computer is off.

2) The touring plans contained in the book.

3) The DIS is more up to date since the book only publishes once a year. (The book is updated in an online site as well.)

Being new to #2, I am just beginning to use this feature to my family's benefit.

Consider going to a bookstore near you to review it if you can.

The Country Bear Jamboree quote has been excised. However, the Sega reference is still there is the form of a reader's letter. (Didn't they stop making that game platform in the mid 90s?)

I would love to hear more of the funny things you can remember. It's kind of like searching for Hidden Mickeys...except with a healthy dose of schadenfreude..

 Maybe a silly question... but a pp said that they listed prices for 2008; if the book was published before the new prices came out then they wouldnt be current... SO.. my question... If your planning a trip for the later part of 2008 wouldnt it be better to get a 2009 book?

The 2008 book just came out late last week. The 2009 book will not come out until roughly the same time.

 Ughh...I just looked at my status on Amazon and it hasn't even been shipped yet, but it's in stock. Estimated delivery 8/31-9/4. What kind of crap is that? Maybe I should go buy it and cancel order.
