The 2008 Flower Power Concert Series Review/Info Thread

I should have remembered the Four Tops - didn't get to see them last fall - they appeared just before I arrived.

I have modified the original post with the suggestion to post photos of the artists if you have them. That would be great. I arrive at WDW on April 15 - can't wait. I'll get to see the Happenings, Peter and Gordon, Starship, and the Ventures. Saw Peter and Gordon last year and they were excellent. All the others will be new to us.

I caught the 8:15 Petula Clark show last night. It was pretty empty. I only stayed about 15 minutes. Her voice is still pretty good -- I just don't care for her songs.

Tomorrow is Paul Revere and the Raiders. :hippie:

Anyone see Paul Revere and the Raiders yet? Funny as usual? Did they do "We Gotta Get Out of this Place"? How were the crowds/lines?

They are a major favorite with us but they keeping appearing at the height of spring break - can't get up for the crowds I'm afraid.

I went to the 5:45 show. It was not crowded at all. I really did not care for them. Paul Revere was kind of funny. My friends all got back in line after the first show -- again the line was very short -- but I left. Once was more than enough for me. They did not do "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" at the show I went to.

The crowds in the park were pretty insane. I think it was worse today than on Easter Sunday.

I think I have already reviewed the acts for the Flower Power concerts this year, but I'll do it again for this thread:

March 19 - 22: The Guess Who Good band but missing Burton Cummings and they don't do "Broken", my favorite!
March 23 - 24: Petula Clark Not really into her music
March 25 - 29: Paul Revere and the Raiders Great show for a time or two, but the same jokes get old. Don't expect to hear Mark Lindsay.
March 30 - 31: The Fifth Dimension Never seen them live but will make the effort.
April 1 - 3: The Nelsons Wish they'd do some of their own songs.
April 4 - 5: Jay Black Seen him on PBS recently... I'll be there!
April 6 - 9: Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone Always big crowds but I only saw him once briefly.
April 10 - 12: Grass Roots Always try to see this local guy. Still a good show and great tunes!
April 13 - 16: The Happenings New this year, and I'll be there!
Apirl 17 - 18: Peter & Gordon YAWN... excuse me.
April 19 - 23: Starship starring Mickey Thomas I don't think we have ever missed an EPCOT appearance by this group. A great band just keeps getting better! A favorite with the locals- See this band!
April 24 - 26: The Ventures New this year...
April 27 - 30: B.J. Thomas Saw him once, lacks showmanship and enthusiasm but still a good singer.
May 1 - 3: Arlo Guthrie I'm just not into this guys music...
May 4 - 5: The Searchers New this year- I'll be there...
May 6 - 10: The Tokens see comments below...
May 11 - 15: Davy Jones Never seen this performer, probably never will... LOTS OF FANS in line!
May 16 - 17: Jose Feliciano Legendary performer...
May 18 - 20: Felix Cavaliere's Rascals If you love real rock n roll, you have to hear this guy! Great music, great musician with that BIG B-3!
May 21 - 24: Gary Puckett A voice that has honestly improved over the years, don't miss this guy! I never have...
May 25 - 27: The Cowsills New this year, but I'm curious so I'll be there.
May 28 - June 1: Tony Orlando Saw him one year briefly and I thought he put on a pretty good show.

THE TOKENS- Not really a "one hit wonder" group! Jay Siegel, as seen on the PBS special, does not tour with the group- brothers Phil and Mitch Margo are both original members.

Top 40 Hits:

1961- Tonite I Fell in Love......... #15 on the Pop Charts
1961- The Lion Sleeps Tonite..... #1
1966- I Hear Trumpets Blow....... #30
1967- Portrait of My Love.......... #36

We always get to at least one night- all three sets- for this group. Very entertaining, lots of fun and great music. You need to see this band even if you are not familiar with the TOKENS music.

Anyone there April 1 - 3, go see The Nelsons for me. I love them! One of these years I am going to get there to see them. And ladies, if you don't like their music, if nothing else they are sooooooo cute! :lovestruc

flyinglizard -- great idea. Here are my reviews:

March 19 - 22: The Guess Who Did not care for them last year. However, this year they seem to have grown on me. They put on a great show and I have finally accepted Carl Dixon as their lead singer.
March 23 - 24: Petula Clark Voice is still pretty good but I only lasted 15 minutes and had to leave. Don't care for her songs.
March 25 - 29: Paul Revere and the Raiders Did not care for them at all. I don't think even Mark Lindsay could have made me like them.
March 30 - 31: The Fifth Dimension I've never seen them. I wonder which original members they still have.
April 1 - 3: The Nelsons Have not seen them yet. I will try to see them this year. I hear their shows get VERY crowded.
April 4 - 5: Jay Black Can't wait to see him!!!
April 6 - 9: Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone He's very entertaining and interacts with the audience. His fans (Noonatics) are a little intense.
April 10 - 12: Grass Roots Love Rob Grill!!
April 13 - 16: The Happenings Have not seen them.
Apirl 17 - 18: Peter & Gordon Have not seen them -- don't want to see them.
April 19 - 23: Starship starring Mickey Thomas Saw them at Eat to the Beat. They were very good. Will definitely go see them again.
April 24 - 26: The Ventures Have not seen them.
April 27 - 30: B.J. Thomas I have no desire to see him. I don't care for any of his songs.
May 1 - 3: Arlo Guthrie I probably won't like his folksy type of music, but I will go see him anyway - just to say I saw him.
May 4 - 5: The Searchers Have not seen them yet.
May 6 - 10: The Tokens Missed them last year. I will be there for sure this year.
May 11 - 15: Davy Jones Get in line early if you want to see Davy. He is wildly popular. Puts on a great show.
May 16 - 17: Jose Feliciano Saw him once - that was enough for me. Voice and guitar playing are still great, but he's a little boring.
May 18 - 20: Felix Cavaliere's Rascals Saw him at Hippiefest last summer. Can't wait to see him again!!
May 21 - 24: Gary Puckett Gary is a class act.
May 25 - 27: The Cowsills I saw the Cowsills on the Original Idols tour in October. They still sound great --- wonderful harmonizing.
May 28 - June 1: Tony Orlando Tony's great. I'll be going to see him again.

I saw BJ Thomas the year before lest, he was OK. I am going to be there on May 3rd and Arlo Guthrie will be there, so I will sit and take a listen.;)

>May 1 - 3: Arlo Guthrie I probably won't like his folksy type of music, but I will go see him anyway - just to say I saw him.

You may be very surprised. We went 2 years ago, came out of Japan just as the first show was about to begin. Enjoyed it SO much that we stayed and watched all 3, and they were all different.

Did anyone make it out to see the Fifth Dimension? I was going to try to go today, but real life got in the way.

I went to see the Nelsons last night. They were better than I expected. I'm not sure why I wasn't expecting them to be very good. :confused3

They did some of their own songs, but mostly they did their dad's stuff. The band sounded good. And the guys were interacting with the audience a lot and telling jokes.

I have a bunch of pictures still on my camera. I will post a couple as soon as I get them onto the computer. :surfweb:

A few pictures from last night:

I'll be going out to see Jay Black tomorrow night. I've never seen him before - I'm looking forward to it.

I saw The 5th Dimension on Sunday, the first show. They were really good. I think that the lady with the long hair(who I think vaguely resembles Diana Ross) is the only original member, because they introduced her as a founding member of the group.

Cool! Thanks for posting those. I love them...they play at a casino around here a few times a year. They are really personable, and do a great show.

Yup - I'd go see them again for sure.

I'm heading out to see Jay Black after work. I've never seen him before - I hear he's pretty good.

We thought they sounded good too. We were at the same show as you! Did not get any decent photos from our location though.

Saw Jay Black last night.

Maybe the most dreadful act to ever perform at Disney World in its history. Somebody who cares about this guy should take him aside and tell him his voice is long gone.

I doubt this guy will ever be back. Disney can't be happy with some of his banter with the audience - totally out of bounds.

That's interesting. I saw Jay Black once last night and once tonight. I thought his voice was ok, not great. But he was hysterical. I couldn't stop laughing.

The best part is tonight Johnny Maestro was in the audience and at the very end he got up and sang with Jay. Rumor has it he (Johnny Maestro) will be coming for Eat to the Beat. *fingers crossed*
