The 2008 American Idol Thread.....

I am THRILLED that they will be able to play their own instruments. This is WONDERFUL news. They absolutely should be able to showcase any musical talent that they have...seperates the boys from the men, so to speak.

:thumbsup2 Completely agree!

What ticks me off is that they WASTE so much time on the stinky auditions (do we really need to see a whole HOUR of an audition city where NO-ONE or very few get to the next round? Just skip over it, show a few stinkers, show the few that go on and then move on to a city that has more 'winners'.) I am hopeful that the changes announced for this year will be an improvement - didn't much like last year's AI. Some of the mentors were spot-on in their critiques, but some of the celebrity performances were truly AWFUL.

The other thing that viewers seem to forget is that the producers already *know* who is getting to Hollywood when the show premieres - we're not seeing the winnowing process in real time.

agnes!
I agree! Most of the "bad" people these days are probably people doing it is a dare or just to get on tv. So what are some of the changes for this season? I have not heard.

I love the auditions.

I too am glad that they are letting those that play instruments play them each week. Wish they would of changed that back when Chris and Bucky were on - I would of loved to see them both perform with their guitars.

Even though I don't LIKE country music - my favorite IDOL was/is Bucky Covington - I just love his voice. He's done pretty well this year. His CD debut sold more copies in the first week of release than any other new country artist in the last 15 years = GO BUCKY!!!

8 days and counting............................................

there was a big write up on Jessica Sierra in the Tampa paper today. She has been in jail since early December. The judge sentenced her to a year rehab in CA....she's pregnant! I didn't remember reading that anywhere!

I have a feeling Phil is going to do pretty darn good. He has an amazing team behind. Bucky's still going strong in Nashville, he's got a show with Alan Jackson this weekend in Nashville.

I'm looking forward to the next season of American Idol....hopefully it's a good one!
I agree that there seemed to be too many audition shows last year. For me, the first few were interesting, but then they just seemed too repetitive.

I heard/read someone, somewhere saying that if this is another subpar year of American Idol, maybe they could take a break from airing the show for a year or two and wait for the talent to regenerate since so many thousands of people have already auditioned for the show. They'd wait until a new group of people were ready to audition. Interesting idea.

If they take a break from Idol, the producers have another reality show in the works called Can You Duet. It's set to air in April on CMT.

I'm looking forward to AI too! My guilty pleasure! ;) I think it is great that they can play an instrument too.

I agree that last year was pretty lame but my daughter and I went to see the Idols Tour and it was actually really good. We saw the prior year too and though there was more talent then I think this current tour was better and more fun. Anyone else see it?

I am ready for another season to begin!

I too wish they wouldnt spend so much time on auditions.
I would much rather they spent additional time on the Hollywood Round. They also seem to rush that part.

Well the latest I have heard is now two winners have been dropped from their label, Ruben and Taylor.

Ick, last season was awful!! After that train wreck, I'll watch, but mostly because there's nothing else on.

Chris Daughtry will always be my favorite Idol. :thumbsup2

I told DW during Idol that year, that if Daughtry puts out an album I'll buy it. He did, I did and I love it. Although Idol killed "home" last season with overplay. He should have won.

Carrie's done well, talented but not a big fan of her.

I kind of became a Carrie fan after I heard her sing She's Leaving Home on the finale last year. That may have been one of the finest performances I've ever seen. Her pitch was amazing!

My favorite Idol still remains Bo Bice. :lovestruc

I was no fan of Taylor, but I am surprised his album did so poorly with all the fans he had. Maybe he will do better with that record company.

Daughtry was the real winner Season 5, with Billboard's top selling album of 2007 and he just one a People's Choice award last night.

I knew Taylor wouldn't do well. He had a HUGE fan base during idol, but they were all people who thought he was a character and fun to watch, not people who would actually run out to buy his album. It was a fluke. I wasn't a fan of Chris, and I'm still not, but he was DEFINITELY the winner that season!

Idol is a week away from airing and look at all the posts! I am excited. This year I have told my almost 10 year old DS he can watch with us. Should be a different experience for us! It will be fun.

I will watch the auditions but they have gotten ridiculous. I agree we should see the auditions of the ones who make it. It annoys me that we often don't.
