Just in case you havent memorized this by now, Ill keep throwing it in...
The Cast- Myself, turned 32 on the trip, DH 35, Cam 7, Colt almost 4. We've been to WDW quite a few times, but this was our first Christmas trip. My main concern was to take in the holiday events, but in the end we got a lot more done than we had planned.
Sunday, 12/28
In the beginning of the trip I was always up well before the wake up call. Now it was getting tougher. But, we wanted to be at MK for Extra Magic Hour, which started at 7:00, plus it was my birthday, so it was a bright an early day again and I stuck on my birthday button before leaving.
After getting everyone up and ready, we started right out to the monorail and asked for the front. We were able to get it. This was DHs and the kids 3rd time on the trip and it would have been my second. But Colt decided he was going to freak out about having his carriage folded up(which you have to do to ride in the front), so instead of holding up the monorail and trying to reason, I threw the bag to DH, scooped up Colt, and dragged him in the regular monorail car. This birthday was starting out great.
We made it to MK before 7:00 and upon opening we headed right to Buzz Lightyear. We walked on that twice in a row and both times they stopped the ride on us. I wouldnt have minded so much but when they did it they cleared the scores and I had been doing pretty good one time.
TTA was next and then Astro Orbiters. It was then on to the Bakeshop for Breakfast. Thank goodness we were able to eat inside as it was pretty chilly out. We wanted to do Goofys Barnstormer since we hadnt gotten to do it the last time we were in Toon Town (remember my go with the flow tip from day 2?), but TT didnt open until 9:00. We finished walking up Main St, and took the train from there to the Toon Town Stop. It still wasnt quite 9:00 so we took a walk to Tomorrowland for a potty break and then went back to TT . We arrived probably just a minute or 2 after 9:00 and Goofy & Pluto were outside of Goofys Barnstormer. Then they opened the ride. A handful of us walked up to the loading area with Goofy & Pluto, and they rode with us. Goofy was the driver of course, and Pluto sat in back. The kids got such a kick out of this! Cam yelled the whole time Goofy is a crazy driver! Hes crazy!. The best was that he wasnt 1 bit nervous riding with Goofy and usually he gets himself really worked up over that ride.
After that excitement we went over to catch the Tiki Birds, which was another late opening attraction. I know a lot of people dont care for this show, but I love it. I think Iago is a riot. This must have been a very Goofy day since our next attraction was Goofys Jamboree. I think this is a such a cute show, but the kids are sort of overwhelmed by it all .
Since we had done most of what we wanted, we decided to try something new for us, the River Boat ride. That was nice and relaxing, but it was now Cam started getting that tired look again.
One of the things I had mentioned to DH on the trip was that I should have gotten Cams haircut before the trip because it was longer than I thought. So, since Colt had gotten his first haircut at the MK Barbershop a few years ago, I thought maybe Cam could have a turn on this trip. We went to check it out and there were 2 Barbers, a woman, and a man who I later found out was Michael. The woman was working on a boy, and Michael was working on a man. There was only 1 family, with 3 girls waiting ahead of us. When the woman finished the boy, the family waiting told us they were waiting for Michael so we could go ahead. Great! We only waited about 5 minutes. Also, when the boy was finishing up the barber (I dont remember her name) put blue gel and some pixie dust (Mickey shaped confetti) in his hair. So of course we thought that was neat and asked Cam if he wanted it. I thought he would be thrilled about it but he just said ok. Now he really wasnt acting right, sort of out of it. So he got the haircut, had it spiked blue with pixie dust, and a hidden Mickey on the back of his head. I sat there watching thinking, What am I letting him do?.
It was now about 11:40 and we decided to stake out a spot for the Christmas Parade which was at 1:00. I would have preferred to see this before Christmas, but it just didnt work out that way. But that was ok, it was still a very good parade. We all liked it even Cam who sat with his blue head on my lap for most of it.
We then told Cam we would go back to the room to rest since he obviously wasnt feeling well.. He just kept saying he was tired, but this is the kid who is never tired. Upon arriving at the room he asked if he could take a nap Uh-oh. I think it was safe to say he was sick. And it looked like maybe we would have to cancel my birthday dinner the one I drooled about every time we walked by the Kona Café this whole week. So, while the kids rested (Cam did sleep) DH and I got sticky wings to go from the Kona Café for lunch, then we did some packing up. When Cam finally woke up a couple of hours later the medicine had kicked in and he said he felt ok to go to dinner. We still debated about it, but we decided to give it a shot. Worst case, we would leave.
After washing up, we arrived at the Kona Café just about on time for our 6:25 PS. We enjoyed our dinner here and Cam was fine, although he didnt eat much. Then came the birthday cake fiasco. My mother had done some calling around to get a cake delivered to me at this meal. She gave her credit card # and was quoted a price, with tax and handling charge. She had told DH to make sure we get it(whoever took the order had my name our PS time, etc...). When nothing showed up after dinner but the check, DH went and asked the waitress. After some digging she said they have nothing on file and they dont take those kinds of orders. The manager even came out, gave us her card, and said if my mother is charged to give her a call and she will take care of it. In the mean time they brought out a complimentary cake with tropical flowers on. Did I mention I love everything about the Polynesian?
I had wanted to watch Wishes from the Poly beach this night, but again, I wasnt sure if that would happen. Cam seemed ok (funny what a little cake will do
) and he said he wanted to stay, so we went and sat at the Tambu Lounge for a while before it was time to head out to the beach. About 8:45 we started out and we were able to get 3 lounge chairs, and Colt was having fun playing in the sand. We watched Wishes which I preferred from in the park, but it was still very good, and then the Electrical Water Pageant, before calling it a night. Actually, I should correct that
I preferred the actual fireworks from inside the park, but there is something to be said for having a comfortable lounge chair and drink while watching it too. I guess I preferred the atmosphere at the Poly beach, but the actual show from the MK. It was a great way to spend a birthday, although it would have been better if Cam had been feeling more like himself.
