That's Not The Name

My biggest peeves are some of the restautant names; people always insist on trying to make them posessives. 'Ohana (apostrophe first, no S at the end) always becomes O'hana, O'hanas, O'hana's, or 'Ohana's. It's Polynesian, not an Irish pub!

Boma always seems to become Bomas or Boma's, Jiko becomes Jikos or Jiko's, and The Mara inevitably becomes Maras or Mara's (it's not run by Kang's wife!)

:rotfl: Irish Pub...that was great!

This actually bothers me a lot too. My family calls Blockbuster, Blockbusters...this goes for everything else as well...but that's the one that sticks in my mind.

We have a lot of these. My dd calls the monorail the Zippidty Doo Dah because she has the DisneyLAND sing-along songs video. During that song, they show the monorail. She also calls all of WDW, but most especially the castle, the Mickey House. I guess Cindy needs to get to packin'! My kid knows who's in charge! :thumbsup2

OMG...I just realized I didn't know that they weren't called the teacups! What are they really?

We call them the Teacups.

One I've heard is Bugs Life for ITTBAB.

DH keeps calling WL "FORT Wilderness Lodge". And on our first trip in 1987, DS insisted on calling BTMRR "Rotten Railroad", even though he really enjoyed it. That name stuck, and now we always say, "I want to ride 'rotten railroad'".

we use:
teacups
wedway
splash (just shortened for splash mountain"
thunder mountain (yet again just shortened)
mostly we just shorten things...but i dont htink weve used a different name before

Cinderella's Castle Resteraunt, back in MY day was called: KING STEPHAN'S ROYAL BANQUET HALL!!! Now, its everything BUT that! :rolleyes1

When I call Mad Tea Party "The Teacups," it's not because I don't know the proper name. To me, it's sorta like a nickname. I'm not my father-in-law, who when we were in Epcot kept insisting we get SpeedPasses to ride Fast Track and Mission to Mars.

To people out here in California, Disneyland apparently refers to all Disney property throughout the world. We are heading to WDW for vacation in Sept., yet my co-workers constantly ask me if I am excited about going to Disneyland.

I swear I overheard this one at MGM one year....Tower of Terror was referred to as "Big Thunder Tower." :lmao:

My DD's grandfather for some reason always calls the monorail the "local", as in "Let's take the local over to MK."
Is he from the Philadelphia area by any chance???

We are guilty of using silly, made-up names for lots of rides in WDW, most of them thought up by DD at various ages.

Spaceship Earth= The Big Golf Ball
Maelstrom= The Viking Ride
Mad Tea Party= Teacups
TTA= People Mover, Tomorrowland Train Ride
Stitch's Great Escape= Stitchy Ride
Dumbo= Dimbo

And one that we got from the DIS- we call Chip and Dale Chip and Dip (from the Funniest Things You've Heard at WDW thread).

I've often heard Fantasmic! referred to as Fantasia.

I also grit my teeth when people say or type the names of the two American parks mixed up or just plain wrong. The one in California is called Disneyland, and the one in Orlando is Walt Disney World (simply calling it Disney World is acceptable to me). But I often see Disneyland used to refer to the Orlando parks, and sometimes I see Disney Land and Disneyworld, both of which are wrong no matter which resort they refer to.
On the West Coast you'll seldom hear anyone say they're going to "Disney". We tend to specify either Disneyland or Disney World, sometimes Walt Disney World.

Yes, we also call Spaceship Earth - The Big Golf Ball. They even mentioned people calling it that on one of the Disney Shows I watched!!

My funny is opposite - calling something else by a Disney Term - I was calling the car toll-paying system FAST PASS when it is really called EASY PASS!!! :rotfl2:

I personally can't stand it when people call the Haunted Mansion the Haunted House! But...I am guilty of calling the "Tomorrowland Transit Authority" People Mover :rolleyes1 ! One ?? What sis Wedway?? I don't get it!!!! :confused3

My DD is guilty of similar, since the clip starts off with BTMRR (at least on the video we have, I'm not sure if its the same one), and I have to keep reminding her they don't play that song on the roller coaster.

DS(7) refers to Epcot as "The Big Golf Ball Park". For some reason he can't remember the Epcot name!

I can NEVER remember the name of "Triceratops Spin" in Dinoland at AK, so I generally refer to it as the "Dinosaur Dumbo" ride.

And I never remember the name of the stunt car show in MGM, so I always end up accidentally calling it the "Lights, Cars, & Motorcars" Show... mixing it up w/ the parade. :confused3

We also refer to BTMR as Thunder Mountain & the Mad Hatter's Tea Party as the Teacups.

And Spaceship Earth is The Golf Ball ride to us too.

No, he is from Ft. Lauderdale - you'd think the man would know better!

We call Spaceship Earth "Space Ball" I also am frequently using Fast Pass for Fast Track and Fast Track for Fast Pass. Here in So. Cal. Fast Track is the toll lane on some of our freeways. So I can frequently be heard saying "did you take fast pass, I mean fast track?"

When watching the Mel Gibson movie The Patriot, they mentioned the fictional "Battle of Fort Widerness". DS asked "Disney World was around way back then?

My daughter always wanted to ride in the front of the "Mommyrail"

I've always called the teacups just the teacups and the POTC just The Pirates.

Guy I work with is headed to "Disney World one day, and Epcot the next." :)

QUOTE]

I have taught my 2 yr old the difference already! My 4 Yr old knows what Epcot stands for, so which is worse?

SiL stayed at "animal hotel"
and a friend calls CRT the "Hassel Castle" b/c of the difficulty in getting ADR's
