That's Not The Name

Everyone I know calls Walt Disney World "Disneyland" and because it's not the same thing, my response is always, "Oh cool, you guys are going to California"? And their response is "No, Florida". So,I, ofcourse feel like I have to correct them and I feel like they look at me like "yeah, whatever"! But I hate when people do that! It's like a little pet peeve of mine!

Oh yeah, and I don't know if this counts, but I still call the TTA the "People Mover"

:confused3 My favorite was when we went in February with friends and she kept calling Mickey's Philharmagic "Mickey's Feelha". I don't know what that was!!!

Cinderella did not marry King Stefan. She married "THE PRINCE". I don't think they ever specifically mention his name. King Stefan is Sleeping Beauty's father, and she marries Prince Phillip. At one point I distinctly recall CRT was named "King Stefan's Royal Banquet" or royal table or something of that nature...which makes no sense if it's Cindy's castle.

I always call them the Tea Cups.

Astro-Orbiter will always be the Star Jets to me.

The TTA is the people-mover...

Actually, the Prince's name is Prince Charming. No joke, that's straight from the Disney Archives. Maybe Snow White didn't age well?

Fun page where I found it: http://psc.disney.go.com/guestservices/8727.html

have to ride the mono-whale.. what can I say.. it has just stuck after all these years.

When I first went to WDW I made these mistakes.

El Rio Del Tiempo= Feasta Boat Ride.

Spaceship Earth= the golf ball

Star Tours= Star Wars

Body Wars= Body Tours

Sound Dangerous= Stupid. Oh, wait that's not a mistake.

Yeah, Prince Philip is from Sleeping Beauty. He's Aurora's man. ;)

These are great! My personal favorite is "Apricot," because when I was little my mom told me I used to call Epcot the same thing.

I have some more too.

Dinosaur - Jurassic Park
Dinosaur - "Countdown To Extinction.." (although technically it is)
CoP - Cinderella's Carrousel
Ellen's Energy Adventure/Crisis - Ellen's Jeopardy Ride

i guess im one of those people...i or my family refers to the following as...

spaceship earth - the golf ball
teacups....i don't even know the proper name
transit authority - people mover
primevial whirl - mouse type thing that makes me sick...lol

im sure theres more that i can't think of right now

My DD's grandfather for some reason always calls the monorail the "local", as in "Let's take the local over to MK." He also insists on calling DDP the "dine-around" and can't figure out why the servers look at him funny.

Add me to the list of those who ride the People Mover. And to me BTMRR is just Thunder Mountain. Epcot is still EPCOT Center to me, but then again, I can remember when it wasn't even there.

My ds was 3 last visit and he called the monorail the "motorail". Now I find myself calling it that when we are talking about our upcoming trip. He's 5 now but still can't wait to ride the motorail again.

I also call them the Teacups, People Mover and Bug's Life. Guilty.

I think it's just human nature to shorten the proper names of things for easy of use? For example: America for "The United States of America." Another example: Rock n' Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith? Who besides my 4-year old (and Disney PR) calls it that? I just don't see myself using the name "Big Thunder Mountain Railroad" when Thunder Mountain will do. Another legalistic example that drives me bonkers is in the planning video when the family lady is describing something about a Nemo exhibit and her description of Finding Nemo is "Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studio’s Finding Nemo". It's such a mouthful and so obviously contrived.

Now, I heard a name for Fantasmic yesterday that really was way off. I can't repeat it here, so all I'll say is they got the "asmic" part right.

If that was their description, they couldn't have been sitting on those bleachers for very long . . . .

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: It's a golf ball in ours! Also DW kept calling cinderellabration cinderbrellabration.

First family trip in Feb. 2000, DD-5 kept calling Chip and Dale, "Chicken Dale". So, now...even tho' she's 10, we still refer to them as Chicken Dale!

Sept 2003 trip, we went to 'OHana for the first time, and DH just couldn't seem to get the name right. He kept calling it, "Moo-hani's" :rotfl: We've never let him forget it....and that's what we still it!

Sammy

DD and DH refer to Spaceship Earth as "The Giant Disco Ball" and/or "The Giant Dustbunny Ride" (I think because of the rainbow fiber optics that look like cobwebs or cotton candy at the end.)

My son calls El Rio Del Tiempo "It's a small Mexican world"!

I just call it the Mexican boat ride.

Among my friends, Primeivel Whirl is known exclusively as Primeivel Hurl. That's intentional, though.

I still think of the Pangani Falls Exploration Trail as the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, and Dinosaur! will always be Countdown to Extinction for me.

My biggest peeves are some of the restautant names; people always insist on trying to make them posessives. 'Ohana (apostrophe first, no S at the end) always becomes O'hana, O'hanas, O'hana's, or 'Ohana's. It's Polynesian, not an Irish pub!

Boma always seems to become Bomas or Boma's, Jiko becomes Jikos or Jiko's, and The Mara inevitably becomes Maras or Mara's (it's not run by Kang's wife!)

I also grit my teeth when people say or type the names of the two American parks mixed up or just plain wrong. The one in California is called Disneyland, and the one in Orlando is Walt Disney World (simply calling it Disney World is acceptable to me). But I often see Disneyland used to refer to the Orlando parks, and sometimes I see Disney Land and Disneyworld, both of which are wrong no matter which resort they refer to.

Then there are the people who type my name wrong (Willcad, Wilcad, Will Cad, Will CADD - I even had a guy type it out Wildcard last week on another board). Oy! Just enough to get me all upset before I go home tonight!
