That poor child :(

Am I understanding correctly when it says that her parents were eating at a nearby restaurant and were checking on the kids periodically? Does that mean that the kids were in the house alone?

I am furious with the parents for leaving their 3 small children in the room.

I think she's been abducted. :sad2:

That's exactly right.

Very sad story. I hope they are able to find her, but I do find it disturbing that the parents would leave 3 toddlers alone while they went out to eat.
They would be in jail if they pulled this in the US

They used poor judgement, but are now paying the ultimate price for it.
The restaurant they were at was across a pool from the room- so in the same complex. (not that that makes is better but just so you know they were not down the block or something)
My heart breaks for them.

Wow I am floored. Prayers for that little girl.

Unfortunately it is their 3 year old daughter who is paying the ultimate price for it.

I have heard that European views on leaving children alone are very different from American ones. Does anyone remember the big news story a few years back about a European tourist couple who left their baby in a carriage outside a restaurant while they ate? They had no idea such a thing would be frowned on, much less illegal, in the US.

I agree, the poor girl is probably already dead. It's heartbreaking.

I hope it makes other parents think twice before doing something similar.

I don't feel very good about this little girl's prospects either. Poor little thing.

So thinking the parents were crazy to leave their kids in the room alone makes me misguided :confused3 . Anything could have happened. What if they got up and decided to play in the tub? Tragedy can happen in the blink of an eye. I feel so sad for that little girl.

No matter what happens, the lives of the little girl and her family have been utterly dashed. Pray for them.

I know that when I lived in Iceland you would see baby carriages with babies inside up and down the street while the parents went inside the store or what have you. Their crime rate at that time was non-existant and it was a normal thing for them to do. I don't know if they still do it or not.

Out of interest what is the age you can legally leave a child alone in the US?

In my opinion, NEVER. :thumbsup2

My niece is 12, and my sister leaves her for short periods of time. I don't know about what the legal age is, though.

I think there is a definite difference in how cultures view leaving babies/little ones. When I was a nanny, the people next door had a British nanny and she would put the baby in the stroller on the porch everyday for fresh air. She would leave him for a good half an hour. If I would have done that, I would have been fired in a heartbeat.

I have been following the story in the London papers and I think we all know what the sad outcome is going to be. Poor baby.....

If you rewind to the late 60's early 70's we did that here in NYC. A sleeping infant was left in their Coach carriage while the Moms shopped. Seems crazy now, but everyone did it. The carriages were too big to be brought indoors. The babies were in harnesses and everyone kept an eye on all the children. If one was crying someone would announce it in the store.

not all Europeans would ever consider leaving their child alone anywhere, so don't tar us all with the same brush, In my family if you have children they come with you be it in a buggy etc, or no one goes at all

I'm heartsick for the poor little missing girl and her family. I hope the case has a happy ending. :sad1: .......Doesn't the resort have security cameras?? :confused3
