That Pirate Stole My Tiara: The Pre-Trip Report

Hey all!

I just want to let you know that I haven't abandoned y'all. I have had some rather unexpected personal drama that's taking up just about all the emotional and non-emotional room in my brain, not to mention that I look like Sebastian from The Little Mermaid after too much time in the sun on Monday and feel horrible. I'm hoping things settle down, but am rather distracted and may not be DISing much until early next week.

Please hang in there, as I promise to be back and devoting some much needed attention to this here pre-trippie. I'm also going to try to catch up on all my subscriptions in the meantime, I just might not be comment-happy.

Thanks for your patience.

Lots of love ~ Tinkerbellarella

:flower3:

ETA: Oh and welcome praisehisname! I've seen a lot of you over on ZZUB's reports and am glad you've joined. And TK - you're a peach. Thanks for the heads up on the SW fares. I'll take a look.

DisneySept2007-1042-1.jpg

::yes::

I would just like y'all to know that I considered making this a cliff-hanger chapter and torturing you. But my conscience wore me down.

Ok, no, really, I was just too excited to be writing this and I couldn't wait to share it. And so it begins...

So anyone traveling to the World on or about August/September 2008 and who just so happens to be a Disney Visa holder knows what today is.

D-Day.

More specifically, FD-Day.

The Free Dining promotion was opened this morning for Disney Visa Holders with reservations for August/September 2008. In order to be one of the "Chosen Ones", your dates have to fall between 8/23/08 and 9/20/08.

Which, those of you who are either:
a.) highly detail-oriented
b.) memorizing my PTR
or
c.) Me
will note falls ONE DAY SHORT of our check-in.

:headache:

However, were we willing to move our trip up by ONE day? SURE!

Gentlemen, start your engines. :moped:

I am going to preempt the telling of this story by giving you a little explanation of how we were treating the Free Dining promo, should it be offered. See, if you remember, a gazillion (technical term, by the way) chappies back, we (meaning Melissa and I) had decided we were blowing the bank and staying Deeeeluxe. At the Wilderness Lodge. Because the Poly, where we really wanted to stay, didn't just break the bank. It blew it up, into a million, tiny pieces. The difference in price between the two resorts, conveniently, would be about the same amount as the savings if we were to get the promo. So, we agreed that if the promo was offered and we were lucky enough to get it, we'd upgrade to the Poly instead of stuffing the money back into our pockets.

Preemption, over.

And so this morning dawned, with Free Dining promo codes all over the place. Having been inspired by the movie '21' (which was EXCELLENT, by the way), I decided to play the odds, which were stacked highly against the move I was about to make, and NOT call at 7 a.m. EST with the rest of the Disney Visa-having mass of humanity.

I made my first call at 11:30 a.m. (Note: FIRST call. Can you see where this is going?)

I KNOW. It's akin to waiting to call for Cinderella's Royal Table 9:00 a.m. breakfast ressies at 1:00 p.m. 180 days in advance. :faint:

But I knew what was going to happen at 7:00 a.m. EST. I knew those Disney reservation phone lines were going to light up faster than my eyes did the first time they fell on Joey McIntire in person. And they would stay lit. For HOURS. So I kept my cards close and decided to wait.

Sure enough, I started to see posts from people who had waited over TWO HOURS to get their ressies. It was driving my trip-planning, anxiety-ridden commando side crazy to wait, but I just had a feeling.

So, I called at 11:30 a.m. and after pressing the "1" option about 18 times, and holding for a mere 3 minutes, I got on the phone with Carson. Who sounded completely and utterly irritated to be having to help me.

I was not put out. I felt for Carson. In my years with Starwood, I'd been in Carson's shoes. So I put on my sweetest "I know you hate humanity right now, but I could sure use your help" voice and explained to Carson that we'd originally booked to check in on 9/21 at the WL, but would like to move up our trip by one day, to 9/20, so as to take advantage of the Free Dining promo.

Which Carson promptly told me I couldn't do.

She may as well have hit me in the face with a baseball bat.

Me: (in complete shock) Um, I'm sorry?
Ms. Carson Can'tStandMyJob: No. Your complete trip dates have to fall within the promotion period. If I were to do that you'd only get Free Dining for one night.
Me: (hyperventilating) But I know the last Free Dining promo...
Ms. Carson Can'tStandMyJob: (reading my mind) That was 2007 when you could have it for the whole stay as long as you were checking in before the promo ended. It doesn't work that way anymore.
Me: Oh.
Ms. Carson Can'tStandMyJob: (Yes, she actually said this.) Nice try though. Have a good day. CLICK.

Not only had my Disney dreams been deflated, not only did I have to deal with Elfia's (my original booking CM) wicked stepsister, not only was I hung up on, but she didn't even wish me a MAGICAL day. Just a good one.

I couldn't believe it. I was disappointed, but I sighed and just accepted that it wasn't meant for us to be able to stay at the Poly. Oh well, at least we were going to Disney.

Then I checked these boards. And saw posts from literally DOZENS of people who were in the same situation as I was in terms of dates WHO'D GOTTEN THE PACKAGE FOR THEIR WHOLE STAY.

This doesn't even begin to describe what my head did: :furious:

I should've known better. (Than to fall in love with you...now love is just a faded memory. - Is that Richard Marx, I hear?)

I called back, armed with my confirmation number, knowledge, determination, and "the secret weapon" (read: sobbing, messy pleading for the discount).

After hitting "1" a jazillion more times (really, do they use all that info???), the following took place:

MY HERO: Good afternoon, thank you for calling Disney Reservations, this is Madison. May I have your name?

(Is there anyone at Disney reservation named just, Mary or Joe? They all seem to have these exotic or trendy names that I'm completely jealous of!)

I gave her my name and explained what had happened. I told her all about Carson and then what I'd seen online. When I was done I gave a big sigh and said, "Can you help me out?"

Silence.

Then...

MyHeroMadison: I simply CANNOT believe she told you that and then hung up on you. YES, if you move your dates up you can have the promo, YES, I can check it for you.

Madison sounded genuinely angry at the way I'd been treated. She kept apologizing and then said these magic words: "We have the promo available for 9/20 for 6 nights in the same room you're currently booked in at the Lodge."

I did a small jig. Just for 2ScottishPrincess.

Me: Well, I was wondering if maybe you'd be willing to check another resort for me. See, we were thinking about upgrading if we could get the promo and...
MyHeroMadison: Absolutely. Honey, I will get you a room anywhere on Disney property with this promo. Where would you like to check?
Me: (in a small voice. Her determination was scaring me.) Um, the Poly.
MyHeroMadison: (tapping and clicking away) Checking now. Have you stayed there before?
Me: No. But it's the resort I've wanted to stay at since I was seven.
MyHeroMadison: Mhmm. Well then, I'm just going to have to put you in this Garden View room at the Poly that I just came across, aren't I?"

I would be lying if I said my eyes didn't well up with tears. I was speechless for a second and then thanked her and told her she'd made the past two completely carpy weeks I'd been having worth it. I think she could hear the tears and the happiness in my voice.

MyHeroMadison: Nicole, I'm so happy to have been able to do this for you. I'm happy I could make one of your dreams come true.

We finished up the call and I must've thanked her a million more times. Just before we hung up, she wished me a magical day.

So, there you have it, yours truly is now the proud holder of a 6 night reservation with Free Dining in a garden view room at the Polynesian Resort. :cloud9: I can tell you that this hasn't truly sunk in yet, but when it does, I don't know if I'll be able to contain myself.

Hopefully it doesn't hit me when it's just me and the BF because at this point he might murderize me.

I have, however, called Missy and shared the good news with her. She shrieked and then said to someone in the background, "Yes, I'm jumping up and down! Yayyyy!!!"

Suffice it to say, we're super-excited.

So, we're going to have to re-work the itinerary a bit, which just means more updates for all of you. ;)

Lesson learned: Sometimes, when it doesn't seem to make sense, Life knows EXACTLY what it's doing.

In your own words....lots of skittle hugs!!

Thanks for all the support. And the Skittles. Though I'm pretty sure I have a cavity now.

I thought I might attempt to cheer you...

Oh dear Lord, nothing I have to say about this is DISappropriate! So, I'll just say thanks for that.

Oh, and for good measure...

::yes::

Do you think one might be able to live on Lapu Lapus and Captain Jack alone? I wonder if I can get an experimental grant to try out that theory.

Hi! I just started reading this....way behind I know....and have to stop here and say that I got goose bumps at this part! I am so EXCITED for you!!!!:yay: :yay: :yay:
okay, back to reading......

Hey there and welcome! :wave2:
We're a fun crowd here and happy to have you and I must say I'm glad you've signed on. Take your time catching up. I hope you enjoy.

Anyone notice they changed the smilies that default on the side of the replies. It's screwing me up big time. It's smilie insanity.

:flower3:

So in order to rest my weary little head of all of the "real life" carp, I'm posting some trip-related news. First...

I did it.

I gave in.

::sigh::

I'm now the proud owner of this:
pG01-3345297_wilsons1_v380a.jpg

Only mine is black/white/gray and I didn't buy the huge 26" one. With the way the airline industry is slapping taxes on everything from fuel to "excessively heavy" luggage to the number of toilet paper squares you use when you visit the bathroom (all 6"X6" of it), I thought it might be smart to by the 22" bag.

And it might help with my overpacking problem.

But don't hold your breath.

I guarantee I can get at least 3 pairs of shoes mangled in there with my flippies, sneakers, clothes, toiletries and other necessities. Trust me. The Force is strong with this one. :yoda:

And the bag was on sale, so with tax it came to $42.00, down from $80.00.

The bag is sitting in my dining room, begging to be packed. I'd love to lay it out and open it up and pretend it's not insane to begin packing for a trip 3 and a half months away, but really, I can't. But not due to the insanity.

It's more due to the amount of fur that will "find its way" into my luggage. (Read: the cats will make it their very own.)

I also further "Disnified" my trip to get the bag by treating myself to a TK-named Junky Apple. I got the bag from the Wilson's store in the Wrentham Outlets in Wrentham, MA. Well, said outlets have this lovely lil' store called the Rocky Mountain Candy Co. They make candy apples, caramel apples and what's key is, they make them with GRANNY SMITH apples - the only ones I'll eat.

So, I treated myself to a carmel and peanut covered apple (which they very nicely sliced up for me) and strolled my bag to the car, all the while pretending I was strolling towards the ToT.

Though I have no idea why I would have luggage in MGM.

I'm just sayin'.

This is actually one of the last "big" things I needed to get before my trip (the new luggage, not the apple, though I'm not saying the apple wasn't a "big" thing...I mean I made a meal of the thing). The only other big ticket items I need to get are:
1. airfare (still a thorn in my proverbial side and I refuse to discuss it today)
2. appointments for the spa (which can't be made until the proverbial thorn is removed from my proverbial side and the airfare is booked. Proverbially.)
3. the Photopass CD (I need to talk to Missy about this one. I'm totally prepared to shoulder the cost for this myself, but I want to see if she wants to split it first. I know this can wait until just before the trip to be done.)

The package is paid for. The MNSSHP tickets are bought and in hand. The new luggage is awaiting lugging. Clothes, hopefully, won't be an issue. There are some smaller items that will need buying, I'm sure, and I want to get one more pair of Croc flippies (though those FitFlops were intriguing), that's about it.

The next big projects that I really need to crack down on are:
1. my trip binder
2. t-shirts, stickers, pins and postcards - all homemade
3. fun gifts for Missy and something for the TK family to be presented at Lapu Lapu fest

I'm feeling a little overwhelmed.
I'm tired of feeling overwhelmed.
Ever just want to be whelmed?

The trip stuff is a good and exciting overwhelming feeling though, I must admit.

Sorry this was a short one, but it's all I have for you right now. I'm already working on the next update:

Chp. 20somethingelse: I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow but I know what I'm eating in 3 months.

:flower3:

LOVE LOVE LOVE the bag. We're going to need more suitcases for next year as the lovely people at Virgin are allowing us 2pieces at 23kgs PER PERSON:yay: . I laughed at you not wanting to pack quite yet, I have bought my girls a few wee bargin items for next years trip and for one minute actually considered packing them in the smallest trolly case that we have (just so that I know that they're safe you understand:rolleyes1 ) Anyway now that the flights are booked and the shopping has commenced the next step is the diet/fitness programme which is going to turn me into a godess before I turn "HHMMFF...:rolleyes1 " on our trip next year but hey the rule is YOU CANT START A DIET UNTIL MONDAY...it's the law you know;)

I love the luggage! I think cute luggage is key to a happy trip. :goodvibes

I'm very interested in how you are going to make tshirts! I can't wait to see them/read about them. :thumbsup2

LOVE me some Granny Smiths, too. I've actually read or saw on TV that those are the apples you are supposed to use for candy/caramel apples, because the tart and sweet balance each other out. I cannot, for the life of me, imagine eating a candy apple made with, let's say, a Macintosh....:scared: (<---ok, would just like to say that this is one of my most oft-used smilies and I had to go digging for him to find him just now!!.....who messed with the smilies?!!)

Southwest, baby!! Start watching those fares and download yourself the Ding alers if you haven't already!

No, that's not a discussion. I respect your wishes.

Just sayin'..... :rotfl:

I'm feeling a little overwhelmed.
I'm tired of feeling overwhelmed.
Ever just want to be whelmed?

Absolutely! Especially since "underwhelmed" carries a somewhat negative connotation. "Whelmed" is good. It just "is."

Sorry this was a short one, but it's all I have for you right now. I'm already working on the next update:

Chp. 20somethingelse: I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow but I know what I'm eating in 3 months.

Me too!!! NO one outside of a place like the DIS can even begin to understand.... But gawd forbid a million times that I should go to WDW without ADRs!!!:rotfl2:

.

I love the new suitcase! Now, I don't feel so bad about wanting to pack mine right now! :goodvibes

We have a place called the Chocolate Apple which also does huge covered apples -- they are soooo good, and I love my students extra when they bring them to me for gifts! ;)

Woohoo for the package and MNSSHP tickets being paid for!!!

Ok.

Seriously.

Y'all are NOT going to believe this.

I almost can't believe this.

I know I said in my last post that I wasn't dealing with airfare today. Mostly for fear of turning green, getting super-duper bicep muscles and channeling Ed Norton. But TK's post a while back had me wondering about Southwest. And if maybe, just maybe, they might have a good deal for a good flight to Orlando. I'm not so concerned about our return flight out of Tampa just yet (I mean really, coming home from the World is not nearly as important as going TO the World.) But I really want to be able to plan our pedis the first day at the GF spa and make more "final" plans with TK for Lapu Lapu Fest.

Suffice it to say it was really irking me that I had nothing booked yet.

So I moseyed on over to southwest.com.

This is me. Moseying. On a moped.
:moped:
(ZZUB would be proud.)

I plugged in our departure date: 9/20/08.
I hummed while my computer "worked".
I answered a call for my boss.
I did a couple of tasks.

Then I finally glanced at the results.

I hadn't expected anything to have changed. I had prepped myself not to expect anything. I was prepared to be "whelmed" if you will.

But what to my wondering eyes did appear but:

$99 for a non-stop flight from Providence, RI to Orlando, leaving at 8:25 a.m. and getting in at 11:15 a.m.!!!!!!!

One moment please..

 :hyper: :yay: :dance3: :worship: :woohoo: :cheer2: ::yes:: :jumping1:

Ahem.

I quickly e-mailed Missy to confirm with her that she was willing to do this flight. There were a couple of back-and-forths where she deemed me the "right tackle for the cattle call boarding process" and I confirmed this was fine as long as she was "awake enough to be dragged through the airport". She told me if I wanted to book it, I should. That I was the travel goddess for our trip.

Goddess. I like that.

So, of course I booked it. As I hit confirm and the travel confirmation almost instantly appeared in my Inbox, it was as if a travel weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. When Missy received her copy of the itinerary, she asked if we could leave now. ::sigh:: If only.

3 months. 3 weeks. 1 day.

Granted, we still need to book our return flight, but really, I'm less concerned about that. I'm hoping for something comparable in price so that we are flying for only a little of $200 RT.

So, tentatively, I'm thinking pedis around 1 or 2 p.m. and then Lapu Lapu Fest before our evening ADR at Ohana. But I'm sure I'll have a chappie addressing that more fully in the near future.

Finally, the DTL (Disney Travel Luck) is smiling down upon Tinkerbellarella again.

:flower3:

Carp. I didn't realize my response would bump it up to a new page. I just posted ANOTHER chapter on Page 33. Ch-ch-check it out.

I have bought my girls a few wee bargin items for next years trip and for one minute actually considered packing them in the smallest trolly case that we have (just so that I know that they're safe you understand:rolleyes1 )

But of course!

I'm very interested in how you are going to make tshirts! I can't wait to see them/read about them. :thumbsup2

I'm likely going to put the designs together in a draw/paint program and then just use iron-on transfer paper.
Then, after I iron myself, a cat and three shirts onto the ironing board and pitch a hissy fit the likes of which the East Coast has never seen, I'll order them online.

LOVE me some Granny Smiths, too. I've actually read or saw on TV that those are the apples you are supposed to use for candy/caramel apples, because the tart and sweet balance each other out.

Seriously. That's what I'm saying. I don't like other apples because they are too sweet or because I have issues with the "consistency".

I had to go digging for him to find him just now!!.....who messed with the smilies?!!

I KNOW!

Southwest, baby!!

It's like you had ESP.

Me too!!! NO one outside of a place like the DIS can even begin to understand.... But gawd forbid a million times that I should go to WDW without ADRs!!!:rotfl2:

Ahhh. ZZUB. I'm mourning the ending of his latest TR. Gawd forbid a million times he doesn't write another. I'm hoping maybe, once this PTR becomes a tried and true TR, he'll read it.

I love the new suitcase! Now, I don't feel so bad about wanting to pack mine right now!

You SHOULD be packing yours right now! Only TEN DAYS!!!

I quickly e-mailed Missy to confirm with her that she was willing to do this flight. There were a couple of back-and-forths where she deemed me the "right tackle for the cattle call boarding process" and I confirmed this was fine as long as she was "awake enough to be dragged through the airport".

Good news - the days of the "cattle call" are in the past. Now when you check in (preferrably on-line 24 hours in advance) you will get a letter and # assigned to you, which is the order you will board the plane. But you can still pick any seat you want. It is much better if you ask me. :thumbsup2

Oh dear Lord, nothing I have to say about this is DISappropriate! So, I'll just say thanks for that.
I can't even comment on that comment without further incriminating myself.:rotfl2:
Do you think one might be able to live on Lapu Lapus and Captain Jack alone? I wonder if I can get an experimental grant to try out that theory.
I would happily offer myself as a test subject.:thumbsup2

I like it, and I'm happy for you. And regardless of whether or not you "needed" it, new luggage is great, and it's unique...no confusion with all the other black/red/green ones.::yes::

The Force is strong with this one. :yoda:
Do. Or do not. There is no try.

I also further "Disnified" my trip to get the bag by treating myself to a TK-named Junky Apple. I got the bag from the Wilson's store in the Wrentham Outlets in Wrentham, MA. Awww...you had a moment. Like when I went to Costco and bought fat-free frozen yogurt twist and pretended it was a Dole Whip. Aren't those pretend Diseny moments the best? Well, not actually the best, because being in Disney would be the best...but...oh carp...you get the idea.

The next big projects that I really need to crack down on are:
1. my trip binder
I really need to make one of these.
2. t-shirts, stickers, pins and postcards - all homemade
You crafty thing you.
3. something for the TK family to be presented at Lapu Lapu fest
Okay, totally not necessary, but much appreciated.

May the many blessings of TK be upon you. ;)

I mean really, get your priorities in order! Spa & Lapu Lapu Fest. What better way to start your vacation than with pretty toes and totally sloshed?

This is me. Moseying. On a moped.

Props for the moped.

I'm so glad that you DTL worked out for you. Though, I have to admit reading about your procuring your flight made me do this :scared: because I still haven't booked. We all know how OCD I am and it makes me absolutely nutso that I haven't booked flight yet. :headache:
