That Pirate Stole My Tiara: The Pre-Trip Report

I, too, have been bitten.
It’s a disease for which there is no cure.
The affliction is running rampant.
We are helpless.

It’s the Disney shopping bug.

Yup, sounds familiar. Most of my major shopping is done, but now my problem is the things I convinced myself I didn't need (new shoes) are flitting around in the back of my head, going "buy me! buy me!" (Fit Flops, anyone? And normally I don't like flip flops because the little thong thingy always chafes the spot between my toes).

So now I'm at a dangerous point: Disney shopping bug, which I thought I had conquered, has come forth strong once more. And a mere six days means Internet shopping is out. Which means it's harder to get good deals. Dilemma. And itchiness. Tink, pass me some of that Cortizone, will you?

:thumbsup2 I'm so glad I'm not the only one who suffers from Disney vacation shopping disease. I swear as soon as I put the deposit down for my trip, I'm mentallly starting the shopping list for everything I need to buy for my trip.

Invaritably this includes things like more shorts, new socks, etc. I usually have to buy a new bathing suit as well, even though I get practically no use out of the ones I already own. (I have a bit of a bathing suit shopping problem anyways). Something about vacation drives me to buy all new stuff. This year I'm determined not to buy a new suit, as the one I bought for last year's Disney trip never even got worn due to the unending rain. I'm also determined to stick to my diet so that I can fit back into all the shorts I bought for my trip 2 years ago. (Of course by August summer clearance sales will be going on.....)

Kohls is having a huge sale this weekend. They have shorts and capris on sale for $12-15 and you get a 10 dolar Kohls Cash to spend for every $50 you spend. I bought all my shorts for the trip in two trips there a few weeks ago.

I'm trying to to succumb, so I'll have more money to spend at Disney, but it's too tough! So far my purchases have been relegated to a World of Disney poncho from the NYC store for when it rains, and a new carry-on suitcase to match my regular suitcase. I already owned a carry-on, but it was black and didn't match my pretty aqua blue suitcase. These things are important, right?

Of Course!

BTW... Tinkerbellarella, my FSIL bought me a bag for Christmas that is adorable from a purse company called Jenny Boston.

Here is a link for your enjoyment:

I love my bag and it is really durable as well as cute. I have a couple bags from there now.princess:

:lmao: Well the good news is that the bags run 20 to 30. The jewelry is really cute too!

Princesskeyblade you are a bad, bad disser! First telling me about good Kohl's sales, then leading me to website's with cute bags. :goodvibes They are in my top 3 of shopping weaknesses - right after bathing suits and undies. (I know I'm weird). I always think it's a good thing that I have wide feet with high arches, otherwise I'd be Carrie from Sex in the City with all my income going for shoes. It's the bane of my existence that I have stupid feet.

I've been coveting those Fit Flops myself. I keep telling myself no - I have to buy practical shoewear for Disney instead. Honestly why is it that hard to make cute shoes to walk around in all day?

Oh, but they are practical! (Erm, so says my disney shopping bug. So many reviews extol their comfort, after you get used to working out the leg muscles more. And I think having toned legs at Disney is VERY practical! :rotfl:

That said, though, I'd most likely have to head to a Macy's this weekend if I want to get 'em, then live in them for a screamin' fast break-in period to prepare for Disney. If Macy's is having a sale, I'm in trouble. If not, I can resist. Probably.

I dont want to be a bad disser. :sad2:

;) :lmao: I only do it to save you money...

And I am soooo lucky. It appears that I have bypassed the shoe weaknesses. But the purse weakness is a large one and jennyboston is the best place to get my fix, cause the bags are affordable and adorable.

Because whoever created them wants to mock us. I am wearing strapy sandal heels (to show off my lime green pedicure) and my feet are killing me...

I think your chances of a Macy's sale this weekend are pretty high. You may be in trouble.

Greetings, Tink et al.

Just wanted to let you know I'm still here. So you chat up all the strappy, pumpy, peepy... whatever to your hearts desire. I'll be down the promenade in the Bose Outlet. Just give me a shout when things meander their way back toward Orlando. :cool2:

Alright, Tink, that luggage was really, really cute.

I am however, proud of you for resisting. I, too, partake in the going on vacation must have new things-itis. However, this year, I have restricted myself to purchasing clothes for DS, as I don't really need anything.

That being said, I have a feeling I may be swayed by the end of summer clearances. I always am. The force is strong with tank tops. They call to me.

And...ahem...I tend to sweat. It's a charming trait I've picked up from my father's side, and it's just lovely. But it also means that I do tend to run through shirts/tanks in one season...well, it depends, on vacation, when I'm mega relaxed, I don't really sweat...more like glow with the Florida humidity.:lmao:

And that's more about me than you ever wanted to know. But, since we'll be meeting after I've been in the Magic Kingdom for the majority of the day, I think you should be forewarned. Don't worry, I'll bring deodorant with me and be sure to re-apply. I would hate for your first impression of me to be tainted by my "glow.":rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I can't believe I'm actually posting this.:scared1::lmao:

HOT HOLY CARP I GOT TAGGED!!!

I actually didn't even notice until you'd mentioned it! I have to say that I'm glad it was that one and not one of the other gems that have slipped out here on the DIS.

:lmao: I am insanely jealous. Do you have any tag secrets?

I think your chances of a Macy's sale this weekend are pretty high. You may be in trouble.

Oh, I know they're gonna have a Memorial Day sale. But the FitFlops themselves may not be on sale--they're not on the Web site.

However, that doesn't make me immune to impulse buys...

Congrats on the tag, Tink! I know there had been rumors about the Tag Fairy being MIA. I suppose now I'll have to attempt to be intelligent and/or humorous on a regular basis. ;)

If not buying anything gave you the itchies, this one's gonna send you into full-on, anaphylactic hives....

I, too, loves me some COACH. And a year and a half ago, I entered a COACH outlet. Where I found "It". The Bag. To End All Bags. That's right - I've become a single-bagger. "It" is so perfectly sized, shaped, colord, pocketed, handled, no other bag compares.

:faint:

Are you still breathing?

Consider this your smelling salt -

"It" only applies to weekdays. ;)

Several Vera Bradleys duke it out for weekend use. :rotfl:

Hi Tink! I found your pre-trippie through ZZUB's report, and I just spent the last day and a half (off and on) catching up. I have to admit, though, that I didn't read all the in-between stuff. I will going forward, though (I just needed to catch up).

You are a great writer, I've really enjoyed the report so far!

Denise

Disney was still young then. In its preteen years, perhaps? The Magic Kingdom still ran the Skyway and Mr. Toad still conducted his Wild Ride time and time again, day after day. There were only two mountains at the time – Space and Big Thunder. It was a time when the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Lagoon was still, well, a lagoon and not a Pooh themed play area for little tots.

Quick aside – this is probably the Disney ride I mourn the loss of the most. Even at 7 I loved this ride so. I think I demanded to ride it every time we passed by. And so, in homage, I give you my “Ride of 1987” in all its glory:

Imagineers, please note: BRING THIS BACK!

I have to second the plea to the Imagineers!

Skyway was one of my favorites.

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride: This ride is so a part of my family's history that when my dad drives like a maniac, we all make some Mr. Toad-type comment.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Another all-time favorite -- my dad was a submariner in the Navy so I always felt "just like Dad" when I rode it. Only he was quick to point out the differences between the ballistic missile sub he was on and the Nautilus. Whatever! ;)

Yes. In fact those are farmer jean shorts and I am indeed wearing coral colored socks. Say anything about the fanny pack though and we might not be able to be friends anymore.

Hey, don't worry -- I had socks in colors to match every outfit -- mainly pastels! :rotfl:

Tink, thank you for sharing your story -- I waited to read it when I knew I could give it the full attention that it deserved and I could cry if I needed to (which I did). It was beautiful and touching. :grouphug:

Hey Tink,

It's not as low as I'd like it to be, but fares on Southwest just dropped today. Depending on the days you're flying, you can get anywhere between $86-$109 one way nonstop. You might want to check out their website and plug in your dates and see if it's worth it for you to book now or try to ride it out. I'm going to talk to my DH tonight and see what he thinks. Basically if lower flights came out, and I got a credit, it would probably cover a portion of my December trip, so I may just go ahead and book to get it out of the way. Hope you're having a great week!

Your long-lost sis,
TK
