That Foo's Boo Is Incredible!!! - Jan 14 TR *THE END 7/19 Pg. 51*

Getting caught up! Finally read the Foo's Boo update, sooo funny! :rotfl: I love the Foo's Boo myself, but I don't really like the foam on top, the one at Disneyland actually kind of sounds better!

Ughhh see this is the problem with reading so many updates at once, can't remember anything to comment on!

Oh! Splitsville! It looks awesome! I want to go there SO bad, we had no time in February or December last year, so in September, I'm definitely making time! :cool1: Although I'm gonna be aggravated if people have bad bowling etiquette while I'm there, that's the worst!

I freakin hate how expensive Universal is for ONE day. That's a huge reason we still haven't been there, I don't feel like spending $300 for 2 people to go there for one stupid day. And I don't know one thing about Harry Potter so that whole area would be wasted on me...but I really want to go for the roller coasters!

I have a huge personal space issue too...like when you're in line the grocery store and the person behind you is like, on top of you, like hovering over you is going to make you get finished faster...I hate it, makes me so anxious! :scared: :rotfl:

I would love to see Hogwarts as my DD is a huge Potter fan but it's so expensive and I don't really have any interest in the rest of the park, plus with the new expansion it's going to be way too busy so she'll have to go when she's older :rotfl:

We had butter beer at the Studio Tour here in London, the tour was absolutely amazing but the butter beer not so much, I think it was cheaper than yours though :)

My friend is a huge Packer fan, she goes to literally every game and her dog is called Packer and has been on TV tons :goodvibes

Aw man, hoedown is just so completely and totally random!! The only time I’ve seen it was when Stilts guy was working it and told us to come watch so we actually sat down in frontierland and WAITED for it…like…who DOES THAT?! Bahahaha…. It is totally cool though, and something you don’t expect!

I seriously love ppf! Its just such a cute and awesome ride!

YUM! BREW! I ACCEPT! And love the pictures with the drinks, who needs classy photos, these ones really show Disney!

The dapper dans are something I find myself always missing, especially with the princesses no longer being in TST, I’m never headed down that end of main street at the right time anymore!

Ahahaha that sounds like a text conversations I would have!

Splitsville is on my list of places to try, that’s for sure! It just seems like a fun time, and a different pace of things to do! And that sushi looks delicious!

You know, Steven & I walked into the vinylmation store in Dec and there were about 6 frozen vinylmations left…naturally there were only 4 by the time we left, we were seriously impressed that they even had any when we were there!

Look at you being a super rockin daughter picking up tea & meds! Awesome!

WOW that ticket math is insane!!! Glad you got th ap’s!

Arrrrg I AM SO EXCITED FOR ALL THE HARRY POTTER THINGS AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER I CANNOT WAIT!! Also probably in November! Bahaha.

I’m pretty sure the butterbeers aren’t supposed to be that small…but as someone who doesn’t do sweets either anymore, I think I’d be okay with a smaller portion!

I’m really excited to try it again though, I don’t remember if I liked the frozen or not frozen version better, so I might be eating and drinking a lot at wwhop bahaha

Yup! Sorry about that!!

Yes.. he became a Bears fan when they were good in the 80's (or early 90's??) and has been one since then. Gotta give him credit for sticking with them even when they S?$&.

Universal had never really pulled my attention because I have heard many rides are not size accommodating and the last thing I want to do is get there and have both of us not be able to ride everything we want.

Haha, no worries! I'm glad that I caught it!

You know, you stick with your team through good and bad, and I have lots of respect for that. Even when they're bad the majority of the time. Kind of how I feel about my Cubbies. :lmao:

I could understand that fear. You would get a bit of a mixed bag at Universal. There are some that aren't able to accommodate too well (Forbidden Journey and The Hulk come to mind), so I could definitely see the hesitation. I wouldn't want to spend that much money and not be able to enjoy everything!

Great update! :)

Thanks!

Oh LAWD can't wait for that video. Doped up little cucumber.

I have said some pretty bad things about Uni over the years (mostly in jest), but it's been a while since I've been there and I've heard they've REALLY improved their customer experience (acknowledged on no less that the DIS Unplugged). PLUS, that AP price is astounding. Honestly, I like Universal, so I'm really looking forward to the update.

I believe they're called Team Members there? I think. And wow, she didn't even try to upsell you the express. Things have changed.

Oh God the lockers. :furious:

 at the Butterbeer size. It does look smaller than I remember. And more expensive. OK, clearly some things haven't changed, lol.

I still have yet to make a clear choice on a preference. I'll just go with I love both and move on.

That is exactly what I'll be. A doped up little cucumber. :lmao:

I've never had any issues with Universal from a customer service perspective. My issues are mostly with food and pricing. They are overpriced in comparison to Disney, and that's saying a lot!

Nope, she did not try to upsell it. I would prefer honesty, and I appreciated that.

I like them both too. They not comparable to me.

Thanks for the warning on the attire for the day. Mom and Dad too? Sad, sad day. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Seriously, I've given up on the Bears. I'm now a Colts fan with my daughter-in-law (this became official when the Bears kept Cutler!).

Your eyeshadow is amazing.

Since it is highly unlikely that we will ever go back to Universal (unless grandkids appear at some point who want to go), I enjoy seeing the pictures of the different attractions/sections. Anything that remotely might give me motion sickness is off my list for sure.

$7 for that tiny little drink? Really?

I will always warn you my friend! I have an obscene amount of Packer attire, so it can pop up. :lmao:

Most of my friends that are Bears fans have mentioned the same frustration with them keeping Cutler. I can understand the way you would feel about it. Honestly, it's kind of how I felt about our team during the time with Favre in the end when he kept putzing around. I'm gonna leave. I'm gonna stay. I'm gonna leave. We were happy when the franchise FINALLY put their foot down.

Well you're in luck, because my upcoming trips should have Universal visits in them too. :rotfl2:

Yes. $7 for that tiny drink.

I love Harry Potter and that would be the only thing that would bring me to Universal. I would love to try Butterbeer but $7 for a drink that doesn't contain alcohol is not acceptable. ;)

There are a few good attractions at Universal. This time we decided that we were going to visit two half days on our upcoming trip, so we can do Universal in the morning and Disney in the evening.

Agreed. Where's the liquor? That's what I wanted to ask.

Neat to see Universal. I haven't been there in years - way before they had Harry Potter and such. Looks like fun!

It's a lot of fun. I had lost interest in the place prior to Harry Potter opening. I'm much more willing to go now.

Splitsville and Universal- 2 places I have yet to be. Well I have been to Universal but way before HP.

Sorry your mom wasn't feeling great. Looks like a blast of a day and light crowds to boot. :thumbsup2

The day was pretty good. Crowds did amp up a little later on, but they weren't too bad to start.

Harry Potter was fantastic for sure. Small but really cool . The ride is something that has to be experienced.... you can't explain it...

That's why I didn't try to explain it to you, because I figured you would be like "huh?" LOL.

That's too bad that Mom still wasn't feeling good... It sucks to be sick on vacation... And the weekends... And holidays... :crazy2:

We just booked our flight yesterday... We're headed to "the darkside" in October... With a side trip to Legoland... And we're staying at Universal's new resort Cabana Bay...

And if I'm lucky I'll get to go to Downtown Disney... What is it with my family and their avoidance of Disney??? :sad2:

I've been sick on vacation before, and it is one of the crappiest feelings.

That's exciting! I was reading up on Cabana Bay and it sounds really cool. I can't wait to follow along on Facebook!

Awwww, I could imagine that's horrible if you're a Disney lover and your family is not. :sad2:

I LOVE that you went to Universal! My sister and I have been alternating Disney/Universal for the past 4 years. We're both giant HP nerds, so the Wizarding World is a must for us after the expansion opens! Pro tip: Frozen Butterbeer. I am NOT a fan of the plain ol' cold version. The frozen is a lot less sweet, though, Pro tip 2: Don't drink it RIGHT before getting on Forbidden Journey 3x in a row! I did that last time we were there and, as someone who DOESN'T get motion sickness, I felt like total poo after the third ride in a row. :crazy2: Also, the Hulk coaster is my FAVORITE ROLLER COASTER EVER! I could ride it all day (though not after a frozen butterbeer, see above). :hyper:

I like alternating too, because it gives some change up.

I'll have to try frozen butterbeer next time! I normally get the regular version, but since this last time, I think the frozen will be best for me.

Pro tip duly noted. No butterbeer before FJ. :thumbsup2

I usually like the Hulk, but this last time, it was too rough for me! I find that it's not aging well, that it's not as smooth as it used to be.

hahahahhaha, thanks for the video......I was sitting here at work laughing my butt off. showed it to a couple co-workers------------------- (guess they didn't get it :confused3) :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

love the universal updates! My DH and I were gonna do it one day as our alone day (mom watching our kids) but not for $250!!!!:worried: now, we're going to food and wine instead :drinking1

That is the best video ever! Love it.

That $250 will be well spent at F&W! I would love that too.

Looking at your pictures makes me even more excited to go to WWHOP this summer! I grew up reading all of the books and know I will totally geek out when I see it :rotfl2:

You're going to love it!!! It's so much fun, and being a fan of the books makes it that much better. I completely geeked out when I saw it too.

YAY for the WWoHP! I love that place, I think they did a great job of it. I'm a personal space lover too, I can't get enough of it, so I definitely have issues with how cramped it is. I read once that they did that on purpose to make it more authentic. :confused3
Forbidden Journey is amazing. Really, really incredible. It's definitely not something you can describe! It's my favourite ride ever... I think. (My parents on the other hand, both got very sick on it! :scared: )
I left my flip flops on once and spent the whole ride with my toes clenched. I managed not to lose them, but I sat on them every time after! :rotfl: Too funny about the (CM?) so shocked that you did it right.
That is one tiny butterbeer... wow... I hope they didn't make them smaller, I love that stuff!
Sorry to hear your mom still wasn't feeling the greatest, I hope she gets feeling better soon!

They did do a great job. I do think that the small size was for theming and authenticity too. I just prepare myself as much as I can before heading in that I will be surrounded by people!

I was going to try to do that too with my flip flops, but I was afraid that I would be concentrating on clenching the whole time! :rotfl2:

Those have to be some of the tiniest cups I've seen. They're like, water cups, or something. I have heard, though, that butterbeer is super sweet, so I probably wouldn't drink more than that. But still...it's the principle of the matter. :rotfl:

Could you imagine what that worker on Forbidden Journey was thinking. "Does this girl really not have any shoes on?!? Who doesn't wear shoes? Why do I always get stuck dealing with the crazies...?" :lmao::rotfl2:

That's exactly what I thought, that it was a water cup that they had given me. It is super sweet, so the size was fine in theory. But overpriced for sure.

Right?! That's probably what he was thinking exactly.

Your trip reports are so freaking hilarious!! :lmao: I didn't realize you had started a new one so my morning has basically been filled with reading this latest report!

I'm pretty sure everyone wants to be adopted into your family; it would be a laugh a minute.

I would totally be interested in a Princess Half training trip report. I am going to be down there running as well for my first half marathon. It would be great to have as much motivation from other princesses as well!! Let us know if you start this!

Thanks! We welcome all people into our family.

I'm definitely going to get a PTR started for the Princess Half, soon. I want to chronicle everything, because it's not just about the training. It's the nutrition plan too that I want to focus on.

Awesome that you'll be there too!

Getting caught up! Finally read the Foo's Boo update, sooo funny! :rotfl: I love the Foo's Boo myself, but I don't really like the foam on top, the one at Disneyland actually kind of sounds better!

The Disneyland version is really perfect. I think I might ask for them to leave the foam off next time.

Don't worry, I do that all the time. :rotfl2:

It is awesome! Make time to go. It's just a nice break from the normal Disney day.

I freakin hate how expensive Universal is for ONE day. That's a huge reason we still haven't been there, I don't feel like spending $300 for 2 people to go there for one stupid day. It is a lot of money for one day. If you don't know a whole lot about HP, it might be a little lost on you, but the theming is still top notch and anyone can definitely appreciate that. In addition to the rides being pretty cool too of course.

My thing with personal space is not that it makes me anxious. I get irritated. :lmao:

I would love to see Hogwarts as my DD is a huge Potter fan but it's so expensive and I don't really have any interest in the rest of the park, plus with the new expansion it's going to be way too busy so she'll have to go when she's older :rotfl:

My friend is a huge Packer fan, she goes to literally every game and her dog is called Packer and has been on TV tons :goodvibes

It is really expensive, so anyone who goes should definitely really want to go there.

That would make sense that they and the butterbeer at the studios tour! Glad that you were able to try it.

Oooohhh, a dog named Packer. Sounds like my kind of person. :lmao:

Aw man, hoedown is just so completely and totally random!! The only time I’ve seen it was when Stilts guy was working it and told us to come watch so we actually sat down in frontierland and WAITED for it…like…who DOES THAT?! Bahahaha…. It is totally cool though, and something you don’t expect!

It is totally random, right? Like, "oh hey....here's a hoedown..."

We'll get some brew together! So so so good.

Splitsville is tons of fun. Just a good break, and something different than the day to day stuff that you do in Disney. I'm all for well rounded Disney trips.

I'm so depressed about missing out on the Frozen vinyls, I'm not gonna lie.

My ticket math always works out. :lmao:

I'm also a fan of duck butts. I even took a duck butt photo of Donald. I'll have to show you hehe

I love the little mermaid t-shirt. Very awesome!

I remember your mom was under the weather. I know what it's like. I hate being sick when not at home.

Great update on the Dark Side! Speaking of the Dark Side, Disney needs to get moving and create its own by building Star Wars Land!

It's been an eternity since I visited Universal. 13 years! I've been waiting and waiting for our kids to get old enough so that they could actually enjoy some of the attractions. As of now, I am planning on taking the to Universal for our trip in June of 2015. I can't wait to see both Potter worlds!

The Dr. Seuss area looks good too! I think my kids would love it!

Great update! We've never been to The Dark Side but we plan to do it when we go down next year! Everyone complains about the same thing with WWoHP! That is sooooo cramped! My sister was so bummed because she really want to do Olivander's and there just wasn't enough space! She said it felt like a continuous line in every shop, and you just filter through...there's no stopping the browse because there just isn't any room for it! Which makes me wonder what the heck they were thinking when they built all of this? So much detail and authenticity.... but impossible to enjoy because of the lack of space! :confused3

Now I really want to go to Splitsville! My mom was in a bowling league when she was younger, too! (My dad might have been as well but I can't remember!) They used to take us all the time when were kids!

And I totally love the pic of Yeti on Peter Pan! He looks awesome under the black lights!

Duck butt photo of Donald?! That's completely awesome.

I really hate being sick away from home too. I think it's especially crappy on vacation. It's vacation for goodness sake! :rotfl2:

They do need to get moving on that! They need to answer Universal on all of their expansions.

You'll love both of the Potter areas, I'm sure. I'm super excited about the new one. I can't wait to see it in November.

The Dr. Seuss area is really cute, the kids would definitely love that.

I haven't done the Ollivander's show before, but I have been in the store, and she's kind of right in that description. It's just a line of people weaving throughout the store.

Definitely go to Splitsville! It's tons of fun.

Day 5 - Tuesday January 21, 2014 continued:

"Duff Beer for Me, Duff Beer for You!"

We had just finished our ride around the Seuss Trolley in the sky, and I figured we would go on another attraction that would be Mom suitable for that day.

The Cat in the Hat!

This ride is pretty cute. My Mom really enjoys it.

See? She's happy.

They are super strict about pictures on this ride, so this is the only picture I have.

Funny story about the pictures on the ride thing. A few years back, my brothers and I went on a siblings trip to Disney. And during that trip we visited Universal. Well, when we rode this particular ride, my oldest brother Chris apparently felt that he didn't need to listen to the rule of "no photography allowed on the ride". So he starts snapping a picture, and as soon as he busts the camera out, a Universal employee gets on the loudspeaker and basically yells at him. It was pretty funny, I have to say. He was so busted. How's that for camera shaming?

I thankfully remembered that, and made sure not to bust out my camera.

This ride I consider to be the Imagination of Universal. Meaning, that it's cute, but kind of on the cheap side. Although this ride comes across as even cheaper than Imagination does.

After this, we wanted to head to ride the Hulk. The wait time was posted at 35 minutes at that point, so we figured why not. Momma was sitting this one out.

The wait time actually only ended up being about 25 minutes total, which was fine with me.

Pop was pretty excited about the ride.

He's a big coaster fan. We were talking about taking a trip to Cedar Point this summer "before he's too old" according to him. LOL. What a goober.

One thing to note about the Hulk. As a coaster, I feel it has not aged well.

I rode this coaster the first time back in 1999. That was pretty much right after it opened. When we rode it, we had commented on the smooth ride. Yeah, it's not smooth anymore. And believe me, I'm no coaster pansy. I worked at Six Flags for many years, have been on some of the most extreme out there. I can tell when a coaster is aging, and this one.....it's definitely aging. They need to consider refurbing and rehabbing it.

Both Dad and I shared this with Mom and told her that we were actually glad she didn't go on the ride with us. She definitely would have been out of whack for a while afterwards.

At that point it was approaching lunchtime, and we were pretty hungry. Universal and I have a hate/hate relationship with food. The last few trips, I opted out of eating at Universal and we ate on Citywalk. However the Springfield area was expanded, I wanted to check out the food offerings.

So at this point we said goodbye to Islands of Adventure and started to make our way to Universal.

Once we were in Universal, we ran into some of the bunnies and chicks from "Hop".

It was cute, but I'm not gonna lie....NO ONE was interested in it. That's one of the major differences with Universal vs. Disney. If that was at Disney, there are generally hoards of people around the characters waiting to check them out. However, I get it, because much of Disney's value is from intellectual property of the characters.

Soon, we arrived at our destination. The three eyed fish was there!

The theming in the area is very Springfield, which is pretty cool. I mean, I love the Simpsons, so I was down.

This was our destination.

It's actually a food court inside, with multiple offerings, which is cool.

Lisa's Teahouse is refrigerated food (sandwiches, fruit, etc.)

Luigi's is pizza and pasta.

The Frying Dutchman is seafood. Duh.

Cletus Chicken Shack.....pretty self explanatory I think.

And Krusty Burger!

Continued in next post:

Continued from previous post:

One of the things that I noted that I really enjoyed about this set up is that there is an employee there to direct you to a seating area AFTER you get your food. I know Disney has toyed with this idea during busy times of year, given the fact that seating can be taken up by people not even patronizing the restaurant (La Cantina.....I'M LOOKING AT YOU!!!!). I'd be okay with it if they did. It was very organized and it worked out pretty well.

We all got our food and were seated. Mom and I always split our two options in half, so we can have variety. We were having:

A Krustyburger. A pretty basic burger with cheese sauce instead of cheese.

Chicken and waffle sandwich. Battered and fried chicken breast on two waffles, with lettuce, tomato, and a maple sauce.

Dad got fish and tots. I had him take a picture of his food for me. He actually took six. LOL.

I really liked the fact that many of the places had tots instead of fries. And I have to say, the tots were so good!

Back away from my food Yeti!

Our verdict as a whole? It was enjoyable. Not groundbreaking, but better than a lot of the Universal food I'd had before. If I went back to the Springfield area, I would probably get the chicken and waffle sandwich again. That was really good.

Rating: 4/5.
Would we go back? Yes we would. It fit the bill for us and what we wanted. It was pretty good food. I would go back just for the tater tots, I'm not gonna lie.

Oh, another winner for me?

Themed napkins.

Disney.....I'm looking at you again!

Our food devoured, it was time to move on. We opted out of the Simpson's ride, because it did make Mom a little ill the last time we went on it, and having just eaten....well.....I wasn't going to risk it.

No Happy go Pukey for us.

So where would we go instead?

This is another one that my Mom really likes, and I have to admit, I do too. I just love the whole "ride on a bike" thing. It could be themed anything, and I would be like "dude, I'm hanging from a bike!!!"

After we rode through and rescued ET's world, we wanted to head to Transformers. On the way, we ran into these guys.

I'm obsessed with Minions. The boys are obsessed with Minions. This is my favorite thing to say....

Well we got to Transformers.

And it was closed. :( I'm gonna put you out of your misery. We didn't make it on the ride. Because by the time it opened back up, the wait time for the ride had skyrocketed to 50 minutes. Boo!

Well, what else was in the area?

This is one of my favorite attractions ever! I just love it. It's just too short! I wish it was longer.

Don't touch the artifacts. You never know what could happen!

Okay, well, Yeti touched an artifact. He survived though. I mean, he is the Yeti after all.

We all enjoyed the ride, of course! It's a must do attraction for us at Universal. Just fun. While we were in line though, I reminisced with my parents about the fact that when Farrell and I went to Universal, this lady had such a close proximity to me in line at the Mummy, that she actually kept goosing my butt! Not fun.

Well where would we go next?

Up next: Ride two times with no wait? Don't mind if I do.

Another great update and I must say I'm suddenly craving a chicken sandwich on a waffle.... Had my first one last weekend at a place in Boston and it was amazing! I've only been to universal one time and it was a long time ago and never had any real interest in going back but I'm second guessing that now after reading this and seeing some of the rides., Really hope your mom's not feeling well didn't last long....She's a trooper I can tell.

I would agree with Cat in the Hat being the equivalent to Journey in to Imagination. It was cute but a bit slow for my taste. It did look like the book come to life though!

I love that Hulk coaster! I am also a huge fan of Cedar Point! I am so upset it has been two years since I went!

That Simpsons food court looks cool! I may have to check it out in August!

ET is one ride I will not be going on! I have been terrified of him since I was 2 and half! It's actually that ride that scarred me and I have never been able to watch the full movie.

I can't wait to try the Mummy I have heard great things!

Can't wait to see what's next!

With the exception of ET, I've never been on any of those rides. Mark may have done Hulk, but I don't remember.

I'm not a fan of the Simpsons (my kids love it), but I love the theme of the restaurant area...very cute. Lunch looks rather yummy.

Super happy to be reading updates about Universal! especially all the stuff i didn't get to the only time I've been lol! I'm super excited for Sept/Nov when I'll actually get to see all of it, I am super excited about krusty burger, i won't lie, bahahha!!

That burger looks yummy! What a fun food court.

So - I did not know that coasters age. I mean I know they get older, but it never occurred to me that this affects their performance. I haven't ridden the Hulk since Nicholas was about 7 years old (sheesh) and I remember it was VERY smooth. What actually happens to it to make it grow rougher with time? I didn't know that could happen.

So your dad is going to Cedar Point before he gets too old. :rotfl2: Love it! I feel the same way!

Fun update.

Love the Mummy - cool ride but I did get stuck on it once and that was NOT fun! Especially since I had the gate closed down way to tight over my legs. :faint:
