Thanksgiving Dinner What to Do?

Since you won't really have turkey etc. on Thursday, go to DB's and make a turkey and all the goodies at home on Saturday with your DH and kids. :thumbsup2

I would go to your brothers w/o hubby, but dont spend the entire day there. Ask if he can have the meal at noon or so, so you can boogy out of there by 3:00 and be home at night for hubby.

You'll have Christmas together, dont sweat Thanksgiving.

I would choose one of these two options. I also like the idea of taking a family vote. If your DH stays home, perhaps he could be cooking a small turkey in the oven and if you come home early you could have a second meal as a family with him. MY DH works a lot of holidays so I usually make plans on the actual holiday with family and then have a celebration on the weekend where I cook for us.

I would go. You said that DH usually is working. To me Thanksgiving is more about family than food. You can bring one dish but maybe you could also make with kids a second one to bring. As I lost both my parents this year and I am bias. Family is to enjoy. As another person said, you could then do Thanksgiving meal on weekend with DH. :):tink:

I would base my decision on whether or not I would enjoy the company at my DB's house, not the food. Trust me, I would not care at all what my Dh's family served for Thanksgiving dinner if they would just be interesting or fun. Instead I get the traditional meal, with boring or non-existant conversation, no game playing, nothing fun. And then I get to watch some of the men sleep in front of the TV afterwards. Sorry, but I do NOT want to see what people look like when they are sleeping! Seriously, I would trade the entire big meal for a tiny plate of earthy-crunchy stuff if the day would just be remotely interesting or entertaining!!

Good luck with your decision--I think it boils down to: would you enjoy the people at your DB's house or not? It might be nice to see their new house, especially if you won't get many opportunities to visit. Like others have said, you can always make the traditional meal another day that weekend.

I second this.:thumbsup2

We use to go to my MILs every Thanksgiving and having 27 people for dinner and needless to say leftovers were scarce.

We just cooked our Thanksgiving meal on either Saturday or Sunday so we could enjoy all the flavors again and have enough for turkey sandwiches.:thumbsup2
