Thanksgiving 2008 Meal Reviews Please!

We go to Disney every other Thanksgiving and always eat at Chef Mickey's. I have thought about trying someplace new, just to be different but it is a family tradition we have decided to keep. We are always pleased with our meal, this year was no different. I enjoy the fact that while they have all the traditional Thanksgiving foods, they have lots of other items as well as I am not a lover of Thanksgiving food. I very much enjoyed having roast beef while my family enjoyed their turkey. We loved it at always and while I somethimes think it would be fun to mix it up a bit, we opt to do that on our other days and leave Thanksgiving "traditional" (our tradition anyway.)

We njoyed a nice day off from the parks that day. We started at BBB, then did a little shopping. We met up with the boys for a kitchen sink for lunch while held us over till our dinner. After dinner we rode the monerail over to GF to see the gingerbread house and headed back to our resort to get to bed early (we had CRT in the morning.) A magical day, a magical week... I only wish it didn't fly by so fast and end so soon. Enjoy your year of planning, it is so much of the fun. And enjoy your stay, you are going at a beautiful time of year...

We're back from T-giving vacation and here's my take on it!

We had reservations at Tony's in the MK for T-gving dinner. With that said, Tony's reviews on the boards are mainly negative. But it was would I could get when I made the reservations, so I took it. Also, note that I tried off/on for two months right on up to an hour before our Tony's reservation to change it the Liberty Tree Tavern. No luck! But we were set on being at MK on T-giving day, so I kept the ressie. I could have gotten a ressie at Boatwrights, but wasn't willing to travel to another resort or out of MK that day.

Our party, 3 adults and 2 children, arrived about 20 minutes before our ADR time and were promptly seated! The adults ate the traditional plated T-giving meal and the children picked spaghetti and pizza. We were offered the choice between the a la carte menu or the plated dinner.

The plated meal was just "okay" - the downside was that one piece of the turkey was dark meat (no choice). After an extended visit to the restroom (with two children, two functioning toilets, and a long line), mine was cold - but that's another story.

Would I try Tony's again? Possibly. I've read the reviews saying that Tony's is like an Olive Garden...I'm not an OG fan, kind of compare it to a can of Chef Boyardee Spaghetti-ohs! But, I can't fairly review the regular Tony's menu.
I will say the service was good - prompt, attentive, etc. No complaints there.

If I were doing Thanksgiving at WDW again, I probably would not be at the MK (simply because "I've been there, done that."). I would probably go for a buffet instead because with the children it offers more options.

Thank you for the reviews they are great. Anyone else with Thanksgiving meal reviews please post. :)

Yes, please post! I have enjoyed reading your reviews and am carefully considering what y'all are saying since I am planning a Thanksgiving 2009 trip.

Anybody try Trails End Buffet at Ft Wilderness? It seems perfect for my hubby, who is celebrating a birthday on Thanksgiving Day next year.

Thank you!

We've stayed at the Fort Wilderness cabins twice, and both trips ate at Trails End multiple times. I generally think TE is a very good value both for breakfast and for dinner. (We've never done lunch there.) Having said that, I was actually fairly disappointed with the meal we had there on Thanksgiving Day. They had traditional Thanksgiving fare, but the quality was not very good. The selection was much more limited than a regular dinner there. The dessert was particularly poor. Instead of all the options they normally had, they had brownies, which my DD12 described as "chocolate cake" (and not very good chocolate cake at that). The only other dessert was a whole pumpkin pie for each table. The pie was sad, sad, sad. Inedible, really.

So, all that is to say that I can't recommend that you go to TE on Thanksgiving Day. BUT, I definitely would recommend that you go there any other time. The food is usually great, especially if it is the type food you and your DH would normally enjoy. (And, if you are thinking of staying at a FW cabin, feel free to check out my trip reports in my signature below. I discuss in each of the FW reports why we love FW so much.)

Good luck deciding!

Leslie

We had Thanksgiving dinner at Boma, and it was good. They had turkey, mashed potatoes and veggies, dressing, etc. on one of the pods, and they had some of their regular items also.

We are planning on going for Thanksgiving next year, and these reviews are so helpful. Thanks for posting them everyone!
