Thanks for the golf, Disney!

This may (is probably) posted elsewhere but in today's mail was a card from Disney. On it, they stated that as of September 28, the Water Park Fun & More Option on our tickets will no longer include admission to PI.

This isn't a surprise but what I did find amazing is that Disney is offering in it's place, a relaxed, nine hole walking course round of golf at Disney's Oak Trail Gold Course!

Now, I know that some of our golfing friends are turning summersaults at the prospect, but what about those of us that don't golf?!

Disney, it's called O-P-T-I-O-N-S!! Sure PI was one place but with many things to do!

Thanks for taking away something and replacing it with nothing as far as my family is concerned!

Most golfers are not turning sommersauts because Oak Trail is an inferior course.

AAAaaahhhh! That sure explains a lot! Why am I surprised?

Once again, nothing for something...........

although it's technically a better financial deal than PI was.

to put more of an official spin on it, Oak Trail is the only walkable course and is considered to be the most family friendly of the bunch. it is only 9 holes and has a par of 36.

I like them throwing in the golf as we had planned to do it anyway. Myself and 5 kids so it's saving me a chunk of change. However PI will still be open when we go so it's a win win for us. Been going to WDW since it opened and have learned that people get mad when Disney doesn't change things and then they get mad when they do. That's why we keep going back, CHANGE. Remember they are not taking something away, they are giving you something different. Not right away, but I bet when they are done half the people will love and half will want PI back.

They are giving you an O-P-T-I-O-N. It's called "golf." Just because you don't like the option doesn't mean it's not valid. I don't think there's any place on the actual pass where it outlines how many options you get. I'm sure there are people who buy the water parks & more pass who never set foot at PI and used all their options on DQ or water parks. Yet they didn't complain that they had to pay for PI too. And the folks who ONLY used the PI option probably didn't care that water parks were included. If you always used every single option every visit -- spent time at PI, DQ and both water parks -- and the deletion of PI will truly hurt your options, then write to Disney and tell them.

Also ... from the Orlando Sentinel ... "The additional benefit is being put into the ticket package just a few days after Disney announced it would be closing the Pleasure Island nightclubs after Sept. 27, effectively eliminating that option from the Water Park Fun & More package and the Premium Annual Passes. However, one observer indicated that the golf addition might have less to do with replacing the Pleasure Island option than with creating sports and recreation options for the ticket packages. Other sports and recreation options might someday follow."
:earsboy:

From WDW Site:

By September 28, 2008, all of the nightclubs on Pleasure Island will close. It will be last call for the last time at 8 Trax, The Adventurer's Club, Mannequins™ Dance Palace, BET Sound-Stage™ Club, Motion and The Comedy Warehouse.

So, looks like the golf is better than a ticket to nothing....

I'd love for them to throw in some mini-golf as well. As the article implied the "and more" option was mainly adult oriented (except for DQ). WDW is, primarily, a family based resort. We need more kid type "and more" stuff.

By options, I meant they could offer either golf OR mini golf. I guess I'm just sad to see PI change so dramatically even though I know from Walt's own mouth that WDW would forever be a change in progress.

I wonder if, since it seems so popular, they have considered putting the Adventurer's Club maybe at the Boardwalk?

I agree with those that don't like the golf option. I have used all of the other options, including PI (which I've probably used the most). I don't golf. Maybe if it was mini golf I would be okay with it, but who cares about regular golf when I can barely hit the ball 50 feet? It makes my Premium AP extremely overpriced.

Great statement. So true. Walt was never happy with leaving things as they are. He said that the parks would always be changing. PI has not been attracting very large numbers, or it would not be closing down. CityWalk seems to do a much better job drawing numbers, but its probably a crowd that Disney is not looking to draw (a lot of locals). It will be interesting to see what else shows up in the space. I have never been to PI, but new things may have me walking from the East side to check it out.

Current one night multi club pass to Pleasure Island - about $23
Current price for a round at Oak Trail - about $38

Let's face it guys, people who like Pleasure Island aren't going to be happy with a round of golf unless they golf. People who golf but didn't go to Pleasure Island are going to be happy.

Disney is NEVER going to make everyone happy. No corporation can. Heck, my father-in-law will never step foot in a Wal-Mart. My husband and I can't go into Chuckee Cheese by ourselves because we don't have kids.

I taught golf for 10 years, after college.

Maybe, I should teach an on-line crash course for my Disney friends. :rotfl2:

Disney really should have offered something other then golf. Its like offering free Pole Vaulting, not exactly something that everyone knows how to do :thumbsup2

How about- fishing, boat rental, putt-putt, or bike rental at the Board Walk?
