Thanks for the golf, Disney!

this is a welcome change for me and my family -- we have rarely used our PI option -- just not the place for young children

my wife and I enjoy golf and our kids have just started playing -- for us, it's a much better option

For those that play and enjoy golf, this is awesome for you! Enjoy and I truly hope you make some wonderful memories with your family. There's more to Disney than rides and shows.

The old addage one man's trash is another man's treasure applies. Treasure for you trash for me!;)

Why can't it be an entertainment package type thing? Say, your choice of 9 holes of golf, a round of mini golf for 2, bike rental, or canoe rental? something like that?

Years ago, Disney offered a Food and Fun package. It included, water sprite rental among other things. Does anyone remember that? Our family got a lot of use out of that plan.

I know that not everyone is going to be happy with everything Disney does. It just seems that we lose more and get less.

cheaper than flying down your clubs with the cost of additional bags/ oversized bags:thumbsup2

Shh!!! don't say that too loud. They'll figure out that they can charge more (based on popular demand of course).

Our family did the Gold Key Package which is similar to the Deluxe Dining Plan but it came with recreation, we got 3 meals a day and all recreation activities. Then they did away with that plan and we did the Food and Fun Card, which was kind of like the DDP but with recreation. We loved renting the water mice, tandem bikes, etc. Also before MYW we did length of stay tickets which included hopping and unlimited water park, PI, Disneyquest admissions.

I'd love a plan like that, we would do all of those.

Food and Fun was a great package, we miss it.

By options, I meant they could offer either golf OR mini golf. I guess I'm just sad to see PI change so dramatically even though I know from Walt's own mouth that WDW would forever be a change in progress.

I wonder if, since it seems so popular, they have considered putting the Adventurer's Club maybe at the Boardwalk?

Walt did say that it would forever be changing, but this is the first time I can remember that they abandoned attractions completely in favor of outsourced shopping and dining. Usually when an attraction is closed it's replaced with another attraction: Mr Toad became Winnie the Pooh, If You Had Wings eventually became Buzz Lightyear, Horizons is now Mission Space, etc. When the Clubs at PI close they will be replaced by shops and restaurants instead. While I don't use the dance clubs or Comedy Warehouse I still don't think this is a positive change for WDW.

As far as the Adventurers Club, there are some rumblings among those "in the know" that there is a possibility it might reopen at some point, but that may depend in part on fan response. If you're a fan, please consider writing to Disney to let them know that. You can find out more from the page linked in my signature.

I'm another of the people that the golf option is lost on. We bought our PAPs rather than APs mostly for the Adventurers Club. We don't golf so we won't ever use that option.

I have to tell you that I just go a phone call from the head offices at Disney.

I spoke with a lovely lady that told me that our concerns are valid and that she wouldn't be surprised if Disney doesn't "tweak" this offering for those of us that don't play golf.

Transportation is provided, according to her, by using the same busses offered for the other courses. (I asked about this for all our people who do golf!)

She said that the problem with offering the mini golf is that the 2 mini golf courses were never set up to handle the flow that visits PI. (Realy?!?!)

However, she did tell me that my email was in the hands of the people in charge of this.

Yeah, I'd like other options than golf...at least at PI, you had restaurants, clubs, shops, etc. -- and a variety!

I always felt like the "...and more" was basically a throwaway as it was. It has been a good deal for us as we like to visit the waterparks multiple times a week. We rarely ever even considered using the "more" option. And while we are on the subject, am I the only one who is happy to see PI go? The whole west side of DTD feels so 90's to me....

Well, that's what I told her. That it was golf or else and she reminded me that Disney didn't HAVE to replace it with anything. I told her it was as if whomever deemed golf PI's replacement had blinders on and was quite obviously a golfer. Great for them, nothing for those of us who are non-players.

The more people that email, call, write, etc about this, the more attention it'll get.

I agree. I'm excited to see what will end up where PI is. We didn't go there so anything that we might even walk through would be an improvement.

I have a question. We still have all the extras left on old park hopper plus tickets in addition to 2 theme park days. Does that mean that we can use the golf option as one of our extras I wonder? I'm pretty sure we could use the extras at the water parks and PI (not sure about DQ).

You know I keep seeing this sentiment repeated over and over. Has it occured to anyone that if everyone only Ever went to the shows/attractions that you like then you could never get on/do the things you enjoy? Seriously, PI was siphoning off folks who may have stayed for EMH, gone to the boardwalk, ate later and made getting a table at any number of restaurants more difficult, or any of the other things that you enjoy instead of PI during those hours. Heck, be glad there are things that other folks enjoy doing that make it bearable/possible for you to do the things that you enjoy!

I don't get this logic. No matter what PI is replaced with, the new area will still spread people out, so long as people go there. PI wasn't being all that effective in attracting people. That's why it's closing. So, if you want people syphoned off, be happy that something possibly more successful is going there.

Wasn't PI already outsourced? Disney didn't run all those clubs I dont think, did they? I could be wrong. They dont run all the other shops there, its just a retail space. I know BET network owns that club at least. Im sure the rest are similarly owned by other places. PI isn't anything like closing toads wild ride and outsourcing the space. They are basically evicting or terminating contracts with the current leasees. So they are ending their relationship with some outsourced locations, and starting new ones. In that wayt its exaclty like closing toad and putting in pooh in that case and while some will mis PI it is the precisely the same type of change. It'd be in line with Walt's words then.

Initially everything on Pleasure Island was owned and operated by Disney. The changes have occurred slowly over the last few years. I'm not sure about BET, which replaced the Disney-owned Neon Armadillo. I know that Raglan Road is outsourced (it replaced the Disney-owned Jazz Club), as are the new stores that have opened in the last few years. That's not the case with the other dance clubs, comedy warehouse, and the Adventurers Club, though; Disney owns and runs all of those. Each one of those is an entertainment option that will be eliminated to make more space for more third party shops and restaurants. If they were replacing them with other entertainment options I would be less concerned, but they aren't.

In the case of Adventurers Club it really is like closing Mr Toad and outsourcing the space. It is the most highly themed, unique Disney attraction anywhere outside of a Disney park. I think that many of the people who think that outsourced shops and restaurant are a good substitute for the Adventurers Club aren't familiar with it . . . which isn't surprising, since Disney has done little in recent years to let guests know that it isn't a typical nightclub.

My husband and I wouldn't have used PI just because it isn't really our style, but we will be able to use the golfing, so for us it adds the value of the ticket.
