thank you WAL-MART!

It's nothing against, you I just don't like when the CEO's of these companies get all the credit. The COMPANY is doing good, not just the people at the top who always get all the credit. If they want credit they can donate some of the billions and billions they have, then I'll give them a pat on the back.
Mighty proper of anyone to give, each to his own ability. as stated before, many companies give in many ways, they all don't have quite the publicity ballyhoo WM (& some others) does. Isn't it a bit like the widow who gives her last coins to charity as opposed to the wealthy man who gives so much more???
anywhooo,
Walmart plans to take land for a road widening from the longtime home(for 30 yrs; built in 1804 by the Prez's father, Rev War Hero, rags-to-riches, Benj Pierce) of the 14th President of the US & they are getting it so far. Somehow the Historical Society has been shut out of meetings with WM & NHDOT. WM has a lot of cash they spend on crushing folks, also.
We are not against the WM coming to town, we are incensed they feel they have a right to degrade land we open to schools & visitors from all over the USA & the world run as a non-profit. We have spent 30 yrs restoring the Pierce Homestead & WM has been given permission by the notoriously mismanaged NHDOT to run a road hard by the garden & take land from Gen John McNeil's beautiful grounds (War of 1812; house has original unretouched stencilling)
Let's see them publisize that! And it is not just New Hampshire heritage, but American heritage standing in the way of expediency & profit of the few!

IMHO. A corporation doesn't really have money to donate;

Neither does the government?!

Im gonna get flammed...and Im ready!!

Why are we poring BILLIONS of dollars into a city that could easily be devistated again!!! Its time to move the city! Make the current location a park, or something that won't endanger millions of people....

This is quite possibly the DUMBEST thing I've ever heard!

Target doesn't announce everything they give doesn't mean that they don't. They have been giving plenty.

Hmm....

Last winter, Target banned Salvation Army Ringers from standing out in front of thier stores. Thats sure how to give back to the community! :(

Yeah, that always bothered me too, and especially now since the salvation army is being so helpful in the katrina crisis.

Target gives more to the Salvation Army than what they earn in front of the store.

If you want to see for your self what Wal-Mart has been doing for the employees & all the communites involved, just go to www.walmartfacts.com/community/article.aspx?id=1331 . And this site is updated daily. Check that facts!
I love to hear positive remarks about such a giving company.
I am proud to say that I am a 15 year associate of Wal-Mart!!!

Are ya ready for some football?

Let's see. Walmart is giving $22 million more than Japan is giving, and how many products do we buy from them? Good for Walmart!

THANK YOU!!

Great point made. Its amazing how much money we give to the Asian countries (and tons of countries NOT in asia) and receve back jack squat. If their was an earthquake in Tokyo right now, and 1000's died, we would donate Billions to a country that is soon to be richer then us!

I totally agree!
I'm going to wal mart tomorrow! :)

Some of the celebrity donations include:

Nic Cage: $1,000,000
Celine Dion: $1,000,000
Hilary Duff : $250,000
Diddy and Jay-Z: $1,000,000 (joint gift)
Pat Sajak: $100,000

There are lots and lots more.

Truly, people and countries who have a lot as well as those who have little have all pitched in and dug into their pockets to help fund the relief effort

Thanks for this list, glad to see there's some mega celebrities with a conscience.
I saw in our local paper today that the Detroit Lions football team(owners, managers', players, etc) is donating $45,000 worth of supplies and 3 of the players' donated the gas costs ($10,000)to send the supplies. All I can say is pretty puny from a team with an estimated worth of $780 million according to Forbes.

Don't forget the Wal-Mart trucks sent into the affected areas. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Walton family donated some of their personal money as well.

Sarah

The Walton family donated $8 million themselves

Wal-Mart has donated $17 million in cash to aid emergency relief efforts:
$15 million to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund
$1 million to the Salvation Army
$1 million to the American Red Cross

More than $3 million has been collected in public contributions made directly by customers at 3,800 Wal-Mart and SAM’S CLUB locations. These dollars will be donated to emergency relief efforts.

Not bad when you also take into consideration all the others things they've already done and will continue to do for their employees that were effected by Katrina.
