TGIF: The College Years

I saw cloverfield on sunday and I really liked it. It didn't make me sick at all like I thought the camera shaking would do so that's good. I just wish that they had given more information on what the monster was and where it came from.

Whew, time for me to catch up! Even though I should totally be working on the paper due for my last day of class tomorrow....:rolleyes1

1. I can't believe heath ledger died! :sad1: I was up at my college bookstore yesterday buying my books and I ran into my old roommate who told me, since she had just heard it from the cashiers who had it up on their computers. We were sooo hoping it wasn't true, and I even said "I hope it wasn't from something dumb, like a drug overdose." And then I checked when I got home.....awww heath :sad2:

Morning everyone!!
Writing from school blehhh. I have class in 30 mins so I figured I'd pop on the Dis. :)

nsyncraider--i am EXTREMELY jealous that you have no class on fridays, but then again you have to work, which is icky as well.
What kind of job do you have?

Does anyone else have a job?
I work @ AMC. :) It's pretty sweet...free movies (which is awesome for a movie nerd like myself)

I'll check in here later to see what's up with everyone.
Have a good morning!

-Caitlin

Gotta love free movies! :) I actually have three jobs lol. During the summer and winter break, I'm an intern at the same company my dad works at; he's an electrical engineer and they work on sonar systems and stuff like that. I do technical writing and formatting for documents they need to send out to customers, and basically whatever else they need me to do.......including ordering and picking up lunch, I am afterall the intern. :rotfl:

While I'm at college, I'm a student ambassador at my school, which is basically a fancy title for tour guide. I give weekly tours and help run open houses for prospective students. It's a lot of fun! :goodvibes

And my third job is singing at a church near my college. I get paid for rehearsal and mass each week, so it's a pretty good deal. :thumbsup2

My classes started last Thursday, yuck. lol.
Italian 202 is going to kick my butt, I'm soo bad at languages. Yet I'm still studying abroad in Italy next fall, go figure. haha

My directing class is going to be sooo cool. Right now, we are picking a 5-10 minute scene to direct for a Lunchtime Theatre Series. The auditions for the scenes are next week, and I get to cast/direct a scene. I'm probably going to do a scene from Tony Kushner's play "Angels in America."

What clubs/activities does everyone do?

As you could probably guess, I'm heavily involved in the theatre department, haha. I'm currently in the Winter Mainstage (A Streetcar Named Desire). And I'm also in SMuT (Student Musical Theatre), and we are currently in the process of deciding what musical to perform this spring. I'm also in the Catholic Mass Choir too. :)

That's awesome that you have a student musical theatre group! Did you do it last year/what musical did you do? I bet that's tons of fun. Keep us updated on what musical you decide to do in the spring! :)

My life is pretty much consumed by being a music major...but I love it! :lovestruc My main extracurriculars are chamber singers and chorale, which are auditioned women's and mixed choirs (although I get credit for them as classes.....they're part of my major requirements, actually!) We sing great music and have an awesome choir director, so it's easily my fave part of each day! I'm also a member of ACDA (American Choral Directors' Association), and we plan workshops/social events for the music dept. throughout the year. The group also usually goes to the ACDA convention every year.

hey guys! this thread is busy i see!
well, as for jobs, i'm currently searching for one here lol, i'm sadly lacking money! so hopefully i will be employed at starbucks soon!

as for heath: i almost cried when i found out. lol i dont usually obsess over celebs, but me and my friend LOVED 10 things i hate about you all through junior high and high school, and i literally had it memorized. it's too bad, with him having a daughter and everything. very sad :(

as for cloverfield: i saw this movie and i loved it. i didn't expect to, but i really did. it's not a typical monster movie, if you go in expecting godzilla or king kong, you'll be very disapointed. but it is a really good movie about people and how they fight to survive. i really liked the movie and thought it was TERRIFYING. it's so realistic!

i'm off to do homework:headache: and i'll check back in later!

Wow, that's pretty impressive! What goes on at the ACDA convention each year?

Yep, it was my first day of classes...They went pretty good! Just talked about what we would be doing in the class and blah blah blah. I was really nervous though so I'm glad the B.F. was there to calm me down!

The first day's always the WORST. I always get nervous not knowing how my professors will be or who's going to be in my classes, but once that first day's over everything else is fine. You'll get used to it and love it, and you have your BF there to help you through it all :goodvibes

just popped in for a few minutes and i saw cloverfield is now the topic... :)

heres a copy and paste of my thoughts from somewhere else:

I saw it opening night... to be honest, i thought it was incredible... yes.. the camera work was very intense.. lots of shaking and fast movements... the movie is definitely not for people who get motion sickness.. but i think that was the main reason to why i liked it so much... it puts you right in the middle of everything.. you feel like a character in the movie when they do that, so its like youre part of the film.. you only know what the victims (for lack of a better word) know, so that makes the whole experience very eerily realistic... and there were a lot of really intense/scary moments in the film that all had to do with the camera being in the first person POV (subway :) ).... and i personally loved how they ended it.. im not going to spoil it, but i will say that they slap you across the face with a reality stick (which is why a lot of people hate it.. its not your typical movie)... all in all, this is one of my fav films in a while... its very different, and its NOT for everyone... just know that if your sensitive to motion, you will get sick.. and that the film was made entirely from the victims perspective, so youll have a lot of questions unanswered about the monsters background and such (you only know what the victims know)... but imo, the mystery behind the monster just makes it scarier and more fun to think about, even when the movie is over

yea... i just wanted to post that haha.. gotta run! ill pop back in tonight :)

That's awesome that you have a student musical theatre group! Did you do it last year/what musical did you do? I bet that's tons of fun. Keep us updated on what musical you decide to do in the spring! :)

Last year was the first 'actual' year of SMuT being a club on campus, as it was started Spring '06 by my friend. Our first full-length musical was in Spring '07, and it was Company. I was Kathy, and that show was one of my favorite shows I've worked on, ever. :)
Last semester we did Zombie Prom, but I didn't work on it, as I was stage manager for the fall mainstage and had zero time. lol
I believe this semester's choices are Working, Assassins, or I Love You Because.
We also do MuThru's (we listen to the soundtrack/read the script of a musical), karaoke nights, and an annual showing of Rocky Horror on Halloween.

and an annual showing of Rocky Horror on Halloween.

YES!!!! Rocky Horror is my favorite movie of all time, hands down! My parents loved it when it first came out and they showed it to me when I was literally three years old and I've been hooked ever since :lmao: Of course they had to fast-forward through through the whole Touch Me part but everything else I loved, and I used to run around my grandma's house singing "Hot patootie bless my soul, I really love that rock and roll!" :rotfl: I have the entire movie memorized and I even have a Rocky Horror 2008 calendar in my room. We saw it on Broadway when it was here around six years ago (and HATED it, they changed it too much :sad2:) and we go see it at midnight in a small theater in the village every once in a while, where all the Rocky Horror die hards and quiie a few drag queens show up to act it out on stage :lmao: :lmao:

Ohhhhh I love it way too much

So since we're on a Disney board, what are your favorite things about WDW?

There are so many amazing things to do down at Disney that it's hard to pick, but there are definitely two things that stand out above all others. I LOVE walking around the World Showcase. I love talking to the CMs from around the world, trying the food, SHOPPING!, go on the rides/attractions and just enjoying the atmosphere. It's my favorite part of all of Disney.

I also LOVE resort hopping. The Disney resorts are gorgeous, huge and full of a lot of really fun yet relaxing things to do. I love watching Wishes from hammocks on the Poly beach, playing ski ball at the Contemporary's game room, listening to the piano player at the Grand Floridian, taking in the atmosphere at the Beach Club, seeing the animals at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and waiting for the geyser at the Wilderness Lodge. I love the resorts! :lovestruc

When I hear the music from Spectro,Wishes, and Fantasmic I get goosebumps!:goodvibes

SAME! well, specifically fantasmic, and i dont know if everyone else remembers but in epcot during like 2000-ish they had a parade called tapestry of dreams that was insanely wonderful. the music was incredible (i have the soundtrack and listen lol) and it was one with giant puppets that interacted with the crowd. Those two things (fantasmic and tapestry of dreams) are my all time favorite things.
but i love everything lol:thumbsup2 i love figment in epcot, and just looking at the castle (i love the architechure!), and walking through the grand floridian (not enough $ to stay there yet- hopefully next time!)

I can't even begin with what I love about the parks...so I'll start with this! I LOVE doing this! We love to hop on the monorail and go to the Contemporary, the Poly and the GF. I always tell people to do this if you have an extra day/morning/afternoon!

Isn't it the best?! :lovestruc

What's your favorite Disney resort?

I really just love everything about disney. from the planning that goes into a trip to actually being there and seeing and feeling that magic all around you. I also love how there is a great combination of classics like space mountain and small world and then awesome new rides like everest.

Isn't it the best?! :lovestruc

What's your favorite Disney resort?

Oh gosh--that's so hard! I haven't stayed in any of the niiiice ones (aka the ones on the monorail loop)... but out of the ones I've stayed at, I LOVE the Caribbean Beach Resort! I just wish I could have spent more time there!

What about you??

What do I love about Walt Disney World? :cloud9:

I love driving through the entrance gate to Walt Disney World and FINALLY getting there. I love entering the Magic Kingdom, going underneath the train station, rounding the corner, and seeing the castle for the very first time on a trip. I love traveling around World Showcase and meeting cast members from all over the world. I love MGM (yes, it will ALWAYS be MGM to me) and how even walking down the street is a show (gotta love streetmosphere! :thumbsup2 ). I love walking in Animal Kingdom and actually feeling like I just entered a village in Africa. Most of all, I just love being a kid again. :goodvibes

Catch-up time

Cloverfield: Haven't seen it yet, it's not one of my priorities. We actually have signs up at the theatre warning people that they may feel nauseous watching it!!! Because so many people have complained!!!
I DID just see There Will Be Blood the other day though....AMAZING!!!!!!!!

My favourite things about WDW:
Definitley all the shows (fantasmic, wishes, spectro, illuminations, the works!), riding the TTA when it's raining (we always go in August, and it's ALWAYS raining!!!) And I LOVE seeing peoples reactions for the first time.
My family has taken my aunt & her husband with us on one trip, and then on another trip we took my other aunt & her whole family (uncluding my 2 cousins) and I just LOVE seeing how they react to everything.
When we go this August, we are bringing my boyfriend, Derek with us! He's never been in his life (in fact, he's never been out of Canada! Or on a plane!) So I'm SO excited to be able to see his reactions to everything.
(BTW: tinkgurl, I read your TR back in the summer where you brought your BF, and it made me TOTALLY excited to bring mine :goodvibes )

Well, I'm going to bed now!
I'll check in tomorrow morning.
Night!!

Wow, that's pretty impressive! What goes on at the ACDA convention each year?

It's basically a bunch of different choral conducting workshops, and you get different packets and music scores at each seminar. I haven't been yet, but I've heard it's really helpful and a lot of fun! It's a shame I couldn't go last year, the convention was in miami! :lovestruc

That sounds like so much fun! I love musical theater; if we had a club like that at my college I would totally join it!

I LOVE Disney music! I mean, look at my username! :rotfl: My favorite Disney soundtrack of ALL TIME is the millenium celebration, with the illuminations music and the original tapestry of nations parade music! I didn't like tapestry of dreams as much, with all the voiceovers, but I LOVE the original, I really wish they'd bring it back! :sad2:

I love Wishes too, it's so magical! :wizard: I always tear up, without fail, at the part when Peter Pan says, "I wish we'd never have to grow up......off to Never Land!" Aww I love it.
