I know things don't make sense but at the same time I understand individuals concerns in a different way. Ask thee average person and if they think about it they will say we should shut down more, wear masks, and be more cautious. But ask that same person about what the care about and they are ready to open it up today! Case in point WDW. People who are doing the right things and saying the right things have no issue with WDW opening because by gosh they want to go! Now make it something different than WDW, say a party, or a wedding shower, or a baby shower. People will let their guard down.

Don't have the link, but I read the article where a WDW Blogger was at the park over the weekend and her friend gets sick. Now the friend insists it is because the brownie she had had a nut in it. We to first aid with elevated BP, nausea, throwing up and did not want to use her epi pen. Took Benadril instead. Ignored the Disney Medical person who said you should go to the ER and stayed in the park. People like this are the reason the WDW will shut down again. I have told the story of getting spitup out of someones mouth on me during our February trip on a Sunday and being in the ER with a 104 fever and IV's in me by Wednesday at midnight. People that pay as much as they do to go to Disney don't do the right thing and go home when they get sick. IT COST TO MUCH TO LEAVE! That is their battle cry.

We struggle and will continue to struggle till there is a vaccine or a cure.

For people that live in surrounding towns, their best bet would be to drive to the closest city hospital and not their local hospital so they can get treatment, since transfers aren’t happening as discussed above.

He's the one that refused restrictions when it first came around. I'm still shocked masks are required in businesses. I believe if people would just stay apart and wear their masks, this could slow down without the need to completely shut down. But I still want to believe people are capable of mask wearing and staying home if they don't need to go out. But I should know better by now.

You will get care in the bigger cities, but wait times are horrendous. It's only marginally better. And we are an hour away. If you are medically unstable, you may not have time to wait.

People seem to forget that management of this pandemic is not just masks and social distancing. We need a robust testing and contact tracing program, and enforceable public health mandates (isolation/quarantines as needed.) Without these things, we will only be playing catch up every time we start to open the economy again. The countries that have been successful have employed these protocols as well as the ones that the general public are responsible for like mask wearing. Opening needs to be done in conjunction with the local covid status as well. It makes no sense to allow indoor public gatherings with the positivity rate is higher than recommended.

Just read an article that Houston hospitals are deferring transfers of Covid patients from nearby communities. It specifically mentioned Anahuac patients being sent 120 miles to El Campo. I live near El Campo. It is not a large hospital. If that's your next best option, it's not all that great (no offense to El Campo, but it is a small regional hospital with limited resources and specialists.) The hospital I work out of is the next one down the highway.

We can agree to disagree. I will stand behind what I wrote.
We are nowhere we need to be with testing and PPE in the Houston area. And our schools are supposed to open in one month. We're now putting our teachers on the front line. Covid spikes are going to surge when the kids go back to school. The numbers need to go down before our kids can return to school. I see no other way to do this than to shut down for a bit again.

I do. I'm one of those who want us to shut down all over again. If people cannot, and will not, wear masks and social distance properly I want us to shut down so that our numbers can decrease while we receive more tests and receive more PPE and receive more disinfecting products within this state.

School is starting in one month. They have no plans to social distance based on what I'm reading that was released yesterday from our school district. How do we protect our children and our teachers once the school year begins? And then it's a domino effect when our children are exposed ... the parents are exposed.. and then we expose our coworkers ... and so on and so forth. People are not wearing masks, are not social distancing and are not following guidelines and our numbers are only increasing.

My inlaws do. Father in law and sister in law are doctors that work in Texas hospitals. They desperately want the state to shut down. My mother in law is staying with extended family, who are self isolating, because it’s not safe for her to be around my father in law. Like many doctors, my FIL is in his 70s so there’s a very real chance this will be extremely serious if he gets it. He should retire and stay home but feels such a need to try to help as many as possible, and a lot of these people he’s sacrificing for are running around screaming about their rights at Costco, going out to bars, and going to 100 people lake parties.

I would love to. I think we COULD keep things open with distancing and wearing masks, but people simply refuse. If things aren't open, the non mask wearers would have no where to go and therefore can keep their risky behavior to themselves.

If the mask wearing and distancing would be strictly enforced then the way we have it now might just work. The childish squalling about the rules and those that defy them keeps everyone in a bad spot though. I never knew that so many Texans could be such twits.

It’s hard to watch conditions deteriorate just because we can’t follow simple rules and exercise some discipline. We could be doing so much better than we are... we remind me of wayward toddlers-trying to explain our simple requirements and then watching to see if they can make good choices.
