Texas

Yes, is it a good thing or a bad thing when your city gets named on the Weather Channel? Not when they're talking about the most dangerous places for the hurricane, and our hospitals are already full+. Fortunately we don't live in a very flood-prone area like some that are really bad. And the Covid testing facility is in a relatively dry part of town.
We used to say that it was a bad sign it Jim Cantore showed up. I wonder if he even goes out into the field now?

Wherever you are, stay safe. We could use some of that rain in North Texas but it never works out that way.

I keep watching the rain clouds move past us. Wednesday, I went out and saw a rainbow to the east of us. I stood in front of three of our work vehicles to take a picture and realized that the middle truck was wet and the ones on each side were dry. We got a spit bath.

Some people still say that, but it's not really true anymore. We live in South Florida, so I spend a lot of time watching TWC, during hurricane season. It's been a few years, since Cantore has put himself in harms way. If he goes out into the field, it's usually to a place that is supposed to receive an indirect hit at most. However, TWC still tries to take advantage of his past reputation for promotional purposes.

I just read that many bar owners will be having a protest of sorts and will be opening in defiance today. I can't help but feel sympathy for them in spite of everything. I see no good answers here.
I feel sorry for the many bar owners that are doing the right thing and suffering for it because the vocal few are doing the wrong thing and making things worse through their actions.

My daughter starts back to work tomorrow, the kids start back on the 17th. We'll see what happens..... I'm keeping the grandkids home instead of putting them in daycare. I just keep praying that we'll all be safe.

My daughter is teaching Kindergarten for the first time this year, she's taught other grades for the last five years. It's going to be hard to social distance in her classroom. She has five tables that will seat four students each. The students are supposed to wear masks to school and then will change into district provided face shields to wear during school. She will wear a shield also, no mask because the kids have to be able to see her mouth when she speaks. She's thinking of going up to Lowes and getting some plexi glass and somehow making clear partitions to further separate the kids from each other. I can't imagine being a superintendent and trying to come up with ways to make school as safe as possible.

Governor Abbott is coming down here to the Valley to tour one of the new Covid 19 treatment centers (in McAllen). However, he's not touring the one in our town, a former quincenera event center. That's OK-we can do without him.

Seems like he never goes south of McAllen.

UT is back in session. This was the scene in west campus a few days ago. A sorority celebrating bid day. One of the professors took the picture and tweeted it.

Hold onto your hats. Cases in Texas are about to soar.
