On Tuesday we went to the state fair - thought I would share a few shots.

This is the Texas Star - you can see it from pretty far away as it stays up at Fair Park year round.

I have always wanted to ride these swans - but at $6.00 a ride - no thanks

We stopped by the Texas Railroad Museum as well.

Totally gross fair food!

-Every year there is a big contest to see who can come up with the best new state fair fried food. This year there was everything from fried banana splits, fried chocolate truffels, fried smores to this - the winner for this year - chicken fried bacon. Everyone on the local radio and tv news stations were raving about it, so we had to try it. GROSS! We did not like it at all- and the vast majority ended up in the trash. The fried smores were good though - too bad I didn't get a photo of those.

Beautiful! Love the shot of the Ferris Wheel!

OT, my dad entered a photograph in this year's State Fair that won a ribbon. Did you go to the Arts Pavillion? The photo was a close-up of bluebonnets in the snow from last spring.

We walked right by it. I had wanted to go in there and see the photos - but got side tracked by the dancing dogs! :rotfl2:

Darnit! Now I wish we would have gone in. Your dads shot sounds sooo cool!

Nice shots, Jen. I think I like Big Tex's new duds this year. The fried s'mores are always our favorite. After last year's fried coke though, I've decided I'm done with the fried food sampling.......awful!

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll make it out there this year, though. Thanks again for sharing these. :thumbsup2

Gorgeous as always, Jen. Which lens did you use?

this is the first year in like 2 or 3 that we made it out. Did you ever try the fried twinkies? LOL was the fried coke really bad? I was tempted to try the fried chocolate truffle - but just couldn't bring myself to eat any else fried. I was craving a salad in the worst way by the time we left. :lmao:

Thanks Amy - the photos were taken with either the Sigma 10-20mm or the Canon 28-135IS.

ahhh memories, we lived in lubbock for 3 yrs when i was a kid and we went to the state fair once and i think that cowboy was there even then( or maybe one of his relatives cause i thought it was a statue rather than a balloon... but that is a 4th grader's brain long long ago)...i am trying to figure out how to fry a coke and well the chicken fried bacon just makes me feel greasy thinking about it:rotfl2:

Everytime you post photos, it makes me want that Sigma 10-20mm. :)

I love the ferris wheel shot and the black and white train! :thumbsup2
The photographer that works at the Ritz store in town just told me to put that 10-20mm Sigma on my list. He uses one on his D300 and loves it! He does a lot of architectural shots in Boston.

Nice work Jen- I like the first shot particularly.

Also like the gross food commentary- the worst I have seen was at the Florida State Fair a few years ago- the Roast Beef Sundae - maybe some day they will have the technology to fry one of these whole.

You win! :scared1: :scared:

That is just NASTY! LOLOL Where do these people come from that think up these kind of things??? And what is wrong with them???????? :rotfl:

Jen-

I agree the most of the fried food at the fair is awful (exception being the corney dogs of course). However, DH & I went down to the Brenham area this past weekend and we ate at the restaurant that created the original the Chicken Fried Bacon...and I have to admit, it was pretty good. Still couldn't eat more than one piece, but now at least I can say, been there and done that.

now that looks ALOT better than the overly cooked, dried out, tastless stuff that got rave reviews and won top prize at the fair. Doesn't look anything like what we had - and tossed.

Amazing Shots...I would love to see this place for myself someday.

Same thing happens here in NC. The fair opened yesterday (we do ours really late for some reason). A couple years ago, the big item was fried candy bars, The fried item everyone is talking about is the fried macaroni and cheese. Before that, the big item was fried twinkies. They were so popular the closest twinkie distributor was bringing a truck per day to the fair just to keep up with demand.

the NC fair has it's icon as well, a waterfall.

The old one looked like this:

It was rebuilt (with native NC brick), a few years back:

The commissioner of agriculture got it built, remembering the iconic structure from his youth. He remembered meeting his wife there. Nice story but the following year they turned it off because of a drought. I was glad to see it was back on last night.

Thanks for the Pics!!!

We went to the Fair after a few Texas-OU games....and then later.

My Best Friend lives in Dallas and says she tried Fried Moonpies this year and they were awesome!

Hook 'Em Horns!!!!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
