While I should've been working, I started making a list of dear, departed WDW restaurants (a wistful exercise, for sure.) This topic has shown up from time to time, but I thought it'd be fun for us to try to identify these old restaurants and where they were located. Feel free to add any I've missed! (And some of 'em are "gimmies" - the name identifies the location.) If you've eaten at any of these, share your memories!

Where were ...

Gulf Coast Room
Pueblo Room
South Seas Dining Room
Adventureland Veranda
Tangaroa Terrace
Bonfamille's
Top of the World
Good Turn
The Land Grille Room
Heidleburger's Deli (sp?)
Lake Buena Vista Club
Papeete Bay Veranda
Pompano Grill
Flagler's
Empress Room
Steerman's Quarters
Veranda Restaurant
Village Restaurant
Garden Grill
Ariel's

Have fun!

I have the answers to pretty much all of these...

Should I post them or wait?

The Land Grille Room, was also called the The Good Turn for a while too if I recall correctly. And then there was the old Odyssey restaurant back in the days when you could get hot dogs, etc.

We loved Bonfamille's at POFQ! We stayed there once and ate breakfast there every morning. They had the best french toast and skillet breakfasts! Yum!:D :D :D :D :D

How about the Electric Umbrella in Epcot? I think that's gone now too.

ooo I knew Bonfamilles although never ate there. Ariels was at the Beach Club and I never got to eat there either.

As far as I know both the Electric Umbrella and Garden Grill are both still there, OK well definitly the Garden Grill is !!

LOL I haven't hear of any of the others, Taryn you're so good at knowing stuff like this :)

Okay... I'll have a go at this...

Gulf Coast Room – High end restaurant at the Contemporary – Closed in 1988

Pueblo Room – Also at the Contemporary, I think the space became Chef Mickeys

South Seas Dining Room – Poly – Used to be a buffet

Adventureland Veranda - Magic Kingdom, Chicken and Polynesian style food sponsored by Kikkoman and closed in 1994

Tangaroa Terrace – Poly – Closed in 1996 - I think used for private functions?

Bonfamille's - Full service at the original Port Orleans, closed in 2000, space remain unused.

Top of the World – Closed in 1993 and opened in 1995 and renamed the California Grill. Used to have Broadway syle shows in the evening and a great Sunday brunch.

Good Turn – First name of what is now the Garden Grill

The Land Grille Room – Second name of what is now the Garden Grill (1986)

Heidleburger's Deli – Sandwiches and soft drinks and beer at Downtown Disney in the Marketplace. Sponsored by Hormel.

Lake Buena Vista Club – Is this part of the Golf Club?

Papeete Bay Veranda – Is in the space Ohana is in now. Used to have buffets and also Minnie’s breakfast.

Pompano Grill – The restaurant at the Lake Buena Vista Golf Club… gone 1994

Flagler's – Grand Floridian, I don’t know the date of closing. Used to have singing waiters!

Empress Room – Dining area within the Empress Lilly, now home to Fultons, Downtopwn Disney Marketplace.

Steerman's Quarters – Also a part of the Empress Lilly, known for it’s fine steaks.

Veranda Restaurant – Disney Village – known for their Monte Cristo sandwiches.

Village Restaurant – In the location that Rainforest Café is now… Used to be Chef Mickey”s.

Ariel's – Beach Club, closed about five years ago but still available for receptions. Seafood of course…

Okay, I just took a quick lunch break at work so I probably made mistakes! I’ll look in later! Oh and no, I've never eaten at any of these places, they were all gone before I ever got to Disney, I just read way too much about food.

Besides what Taryn wrote I have this to add:

Flagler's is now Citricos

To add to the list of departed restaurants or changed names :

Mile Long Bar - now Pecos Bill's

Tomorrowland Terrace - now Cosmic Ray's??

Sunrise Terrace - turned into Pasta Piazza - now closed

Stargate - now Electric Umbrella (it's not closed)

Famer's Market - now Sunshine Season Foodfair

King Stefan's Banquet Hall (which didn't make sense since that wasn't Cinderella's Father, but was Sleeping Beauty's) - now Cinderella's Royal Table

Gurgi's Munchies and Crunchies - now Lumiere's Kitchen

Fiesta Fun Center - now Food at Fun Center at Contemporary

Studio Pizzaria - now Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano

Soundstage Restaurant - closed now is Playhouse Disney

Coca-Cola Refreshment Corner - now Casey's Corner

Season's Dining Room - went away with the Institute

I'm sure there are others, but can't remember.

I ate at the Empress Room in 1991. It was unbelievable. I was only 20 but had a great time. It cost $265 ( with no alcohol) for 2 of us. I was sad to see it go.

We enjoyed meals at:

South Seas Dining Room...first character buffet for our sons in 1983. We had breakfast there but don't think we did the dinner buffet.

Tangaroa Terrace...they served Tonga Toast before it was called that. Loved their a la carte breakfast as well as a breakfast buffet that started later.

Bonfamille's...had lunch there once before a flight home.

Top of the World...had a great daily breafast buffet as well as Sunday champagne brunch.

Good Turn....ate here a couple of times.

Heidleberger's Deli (sp?)...did carry out sandwiches here a couple of times before flights.

Lake Buena Vista Club....peaceful dinner here by the golf course. Had different names over the years.

Papeete Bay Veranda....great daily breakfast buffets as well as Sunday brunch. Also had dinner a couple of times. Great view and live music.

Pompano Grill...think this was a later name for Lake Buena Vista Club

Steerman's Quarters...enjoyed steaks and burgers here on the Empress Lily but the quality didn't match the better steak places these days. Fisherman's Deck was there too and had seafood.Pretty spot.

Veranda Restaurant...at the shopping Village. Had lunch here as I recall. I remember lilac &/or pink linens, green plants, and I think cast iron tables.

Village Restaurant....had dinner here . It later became Chef Mickey's before it's latest reincarnation as Rainforest.

Garden Grill.....isn't that still there? Have had breakfast there.

Places we didn't make it too but intended to eventually included the Empress Room, Gulf Coast Room, Pueblo Room and
Ariel's.

Wasn't the Garden Grill also the name of the resturaunt at what is now the Shades of Green? I remember eating there in 1989, when the hotel was the Disney Inn.
Also, not a former resturaunt, but a former character meal-Melvin the Moose.

In November of 1998, the Coral Isle Cafe became the Kona Cafe! :)

Was Melvin Moose at the character breakfast with Chip 'n Dale at FW? We enjoyed that way back in the '80s.

I remember the Trophy Room at the Golf Resort...later known as the Disney Inn and now as SOG. I wonder if Garden Grille was the new name when the resort became the Disney Inn?

Dana49 I remember Coral Isle. In fact, it took us a few trips before we got use to the name Kona Cafe.

Wer just ate at the Electric Umbrella at the end of February and it had prettu good burgers!!

I still call it the Coral Isle Cafe. I loved the place. :)

Man, y'all are GOOD. But I'm stumping myself. What was the name of the seafood restaurant on the Empress Lily? Fisherman's Deck? Somehow that doesn't sound right.

And there were a ton that I hadn't thought about in years. Fun, huh?

I also miss CROCKETT'S TAVERN (the sit down restaurant/bar) at Fort Wilderness. You could get the same meal as the Hoop-de-doo Revue for only $10. I also miss the make your own pizza with the sing along banjo player.

Fisherman's deck was on the Empres Lilly.
How about Sum Chows?? Anybody remember where that was??
How about Seasons??

Uncleromulus wasn't Seasons one of the names for the restaurant by Lake Buena Vista?
