I know at one time WDW was trying a car at test track that a wheelchair could go in. Did this ever work out and in use??

My 17 yr old son uses a motorized wheelchair but can transfer with help. He was told by the cm that you must be able to transfer in order to ride. The guidebook for people w/disabilities also stated this. We were there Dec. 27-31, 2003.

Sorry I can't give you better news.

Disney recently updated their online version of the Guidebook for Guest with Disabilities.
It still says that you need to make a transfer. There is a tranfer spot beyond the regular boarding area though where you can make a direct wheelchair next to the ride car transfer in and out. The regular boarding are has the car located below and a step down. The optional wheelchair transfer place has the car sitting above the track. The tranfer is similar to transferring to and from a wheelchair seated next to a bathtub.
I haven't heard anything for a long time about the wheelchair accessible car they were talking about for a while, so I don't know if it's still in the works or not.
