Why would a cast member tell guests (adult and child) to share a design studio kiosk?

We were asked to "share number 5" (as other child/adult pairs were told) only to have 3 empty kiosks in our row. Not a huge deal, but just stupid.

I'm sure there is a reason for it, just ask. One time when I worked at Soarin, one of the seats in the front row was out due to a faulty seatbelt, so we couldn't load that seat, however I had people move themselves around because "you left a seat open in the front" when I had to tell them it was out due to the seatbelt, so it may not be apparent as to why, but I'm sure there's a reason.

They usually have groups of up to 3 riding together share 1 kiosk. Since that is standard procedure they probably just didn't go off procedure. It is to get more people through the design process and maybe the next in line group was a big party or those 3 kiosks were not functioning properly.

Whatever reason the ride was that empty, and there's open kiosks, then everyone having their own wouldn't be a problem. Like someone said the CM probably did it out of habit or in the case more people showed up right behind.

When the ride is packed it's 2-3 people per design studio to keep the line moving. Everyone designing their own car would take way too long.

Also if you didn't know, you can enter through the gift shop and they have two design studio stations in there. You can feel free to make a car without the time limit.

We have that happen with two adults. Once the doors closed our "group" wasn't going to get bigger, so if there were empty stations we just split up and each did our own. We've never had an issue where the kiosk didn't work. If it didn't nothing would be lost. As we head out, next group heads in, so again I've never seen a reason why we should leave the kiosks empty.

Sorry to say that I find the "design" aspect tedious, antiquated and superfluous.
I skip it whenever I can.

And, there are so many times that the car you "designed" doesn't even get correctly input to the car you are riding.

If I want to "design a car" there are many much more interesting ways to do it on a home computer or pad.

Just Google "Car design software."

Yep, me too. I do single rider line most of the time and you skip it anyway.

And, it might be a bit more intriguing if the design you chose in any way affected the actual RIDE.

But, alas...

I agree. I'd gladly skip that part of the ride, but the kids (all over the age of 11) enjoy it.

FWIW, when we were there in June, our party of eight had to share kiosks (2 people/kiosk) both times we rode...and one of those time the standby wait was only 10 minutes -- so not a busy time that they needed to keep pushing people through. And both times, *my* kiosk didn't work right so I never actually got to "use" my car.

I'm with you Robo, the design kiosks are a total waste of time.

And, to be honest, that's really what they are there to do...
"waste" a bit of the waiting time in the line.

It takes the place of the former (and sadly-missed) pre-show of the original test track.

That old pre-show featured the very entertaining and versatile actor, John Michael Higgins.
